DeVries NOT a candidate for Iowa job. Ben McCollum the next Iowa Head Coach?

In my life, UIowa has hired many FB coaches (6-7) and as many BB coaches…the only coach that ever “excited” me was when Evy brought in Ralph Miller. There was no doubt in my mind that UIowa basketball was going to get very competitive in a short amount of time.
UIowa has made me any “blah” choices as coaches. Good hires would include Hayden and Kirk. Neither of them were “fan favorites”…My favorite was “Hayden who?” Everyone knew that Bobby Stoops was destined to be the Iowa FB coach too.
In BB, Lute, Raveling and Davis were solid hires. Alford was a “cant miss” who didn’t connect and Lick was a bad miss. I don’t think the candidates were lined up for the Iowa job following Lick. Fran overall, did a decent job.
I don’t know if there is a “Ralph Miller” standing in the wings…I hope we get a Lute or Tom Davis though.

Maybe DD is trying see what the NIL monies are going to be at Iowa and realizes it is a needed factor to be successful. If not strong at Iowa, why take a chance, if Indiana has as much as everyone says they do.

So now we have to sit with our thumbs up our butts until Drake loses? Very unfair!

IMO, if Iowa is going to be getting lesser talent than the top programs.. That's pretty much always been the case, and I see no reason for it to change.. Then IMO what we need is a guy who is exceptional on the sidelines.

I'll be happy if we end up with Devries, but I remain all in on McCollum.
To me X’s and O’s and recruiting Jimmy and Joes is only a part of the Iowa job. You also need to be able to engage with the fanbase, donors and corporate sponsors. Get people excited AND supportive of Iowa basketball again, get butts back in the seats.

Yeah, it’s confirmed, Devries is not your next HC at Iowa. Big donors need to step it up or Iowa BB will always be behind the 8 ball when it comes to NIL.

Blessing in disguise?

I think it’s unfolding perfect for Iowa.

This tells me DD is not comfortable with A.) his style B.) his ability to develop if he needs a large NIL amount.

Iowa is not only saving on large buyout money, but salary as well. The savings may be anywhere from $6-8 million. You then take half of that to use for Carver renovations, and still have wiggle room vs. what you just dumped pursuing & getting DD.

Bring in Ben McCollum.
