Devries Rumors Getting Louder

Here's what's actually happening. DeVries agent puts out this article saying Fran is on his way out & Iowa wants DeVries. The agent has spoken with Beth. Beth is probably giving Fran one more year & letting him step away "on his own accord". & telling the agent to give her time, another year. Meanwhile DeVries agent is talking to WV's AD and negotiating an extension with more $$. Either way is a win/win for DeVries. He can take the extension or wait one year and take the Iowa job.

How about we take a step back and look at DeVries' current season with the Mountaineers. In what was obviously a step up in competition, he is currently 15-9 and in ninth place in the Big 12. After so many complaints about Iowa's current record and position, those are hardly numbers to hang our hats on if we want to make a splash with a new coach.
West Virginia went 9-23 last year.

WV would have maybe 1 loss in the B1G. Even with their 2 best players out.

I expect Fran will be back.

I’m not overly excited about DeVries either.

Excited about Fran being gone though!

It does seem that Fran isn’t planning to simply retire. Why would he be traveling to Rockwell City on a recruiting visit and being so active otherwise in recruiting?

Just as important, this last game also showed me the players haven’t given up on Fran, the players obviously do not see Fran as a lame duck.

Hate to say it but we will may be looking down the barrel of another Fran season.

Rockwell City ? Who would he be recruiting there ?

No way Beth can afford to let fan apathy to grow to Lick-level years by bringing him back.

Fran will be done at the end of the year … you don’t give him one more season … to show he is still - and always will be - an average coach (.510 conference record) …

I was checking out different sites earlier to see if Fran was on their 'coaches on the hot seat' list - and yes, he is on the vast majority of them - but one of them had about the most perfect description of Fran's coaching style that I've seen to date;

'up-tempo offense, disinterested defense'

The most noteworthy thing I got from that article was the statement: "If McCaffery were dismissed at the end of the season, which is strongly being considered according to people close to the program".

Ok, good. So maybe (hopefully) that means a move will be made.

What's unknown IMO is exactly how much mutual interest there is between Devries and Iowa. Unless someone has some inside info. Maybe Devries just ends up with a fat extension. Or maybe he's our next coach. Time will tell.

why would beth tip her hand to the agent 1++ years in advance? she’s a assassin. if she approached the agent she means business in the near term imo. the agent might choose to portray matters differently in order to see what wv forks out

West Virginia was 9-23 last season. This year already they have wins over the 2,3, and 7th ranked teams when they played, Including at Kansas. How many ranked wins does Fran have this season in year 15? Devries would be a clear upgrade.

Stuckey's?! How old are you my man? We would take summer vacations (I was born and raised in Cedar Rapids) and to pass some long stretches of boredom we (older sister, little brother) would get a pad of paper and a pencil and start counting the many many Stuckey's we passed along the way. Kind of a fun game. We got really excited when we actually went in one to get something to eat and drink. We did the same with semi's. Peterbilt v. Mack. Those were the days. We had a behemoth of a station wagon and we would put a mattress in the back. We even had air conditioning! Those were the days. Everything seemed a bit easier in life. Good memories. Good memories.
There used to be a stretch on I-4 from Tampa to Orlando with a Stuckey's sign each & every mile, until it became 3/4 mile, 1/2 mile, and finally, 1/4 mile. Glorious.

Nothing could beat a chili dog with fries, a pecan log roll, and a Coke chaser.

And physical on ball defense. The two main things Fran doesn't bring to the table.
Well we had one guy but Fran for whatever had a short leash on him and he got run out off IC and he played one year at wvu before having a great senior year at T. Tech and that was Joe Touissaint. I know argument will be he played out of control at times which he did but so does Harding this year and fran played him lot more than JoeT. Take the good with the bad and was one guard who could actually defend the other teams pg the last decade of Fran ball.

The fries were absolutely the worst

Say what you will about Fran's use of JT but his complete lack of stability cost him a lot. He was always off balance and slipping and sliding all over the place. Was not a lockdown defender for us either, could be Fran's defense tho
