I have never killed anyone. But I do think I have watched enough forensic files and other murder shows to know how to get away with it.
I wouldn't because there is no one that I can think of that I would risk life imprisonment just to get rid of.
That said without going into specifics, one would think there are better plans than this. Make it look like an accident in some way. At the very least make them have to conduct an actual investigation in order to prove you did it.
This guy just driving home without his GF and not telling anyone that something happened to her makes it clear that he killed her without much investigation needed.
I mean there is no way to guarantee that you would get away with it. Even with excellent planning you would need some degree of luck to pull it off. But the way he did it, man the police don't even have to really even try. It's completely obvious he killed her.
It was not a security cam but go pro mounted on a couples RV. They found it looking back at footage and reported it to FBI and FBI located body using it within 18 hours. The craziest part that I still feel is not getting enough attention is they found it and FBI subsequently then found her body on the same day as their son’s 17th birthday, who has died in a car 10 years prior. They even said before body was found using the image it felt like it was their son who guided them to look and find the vans image. Hollywood movie stuff.

Having driven through Utah, Wyoming etc, there are much more remote, mostly uninhabited spots, compared to Grand Teton National Park, even if it's considered a distressed camping ground. Any national park attracts people, as nosy as they are. A trail camera picked up a guy walking by this morning that looked a lot like him and it appeared he was carrying the same type of backpack

It might have been cheaper to put this dirtbag under 24/7 surveillance from the get-go. The local police chief said they didn't have the resources. Great, but what resources and $$ are being expended now? Save ten thousand and now spend hundreds of thousands. I think we have some serious incompetence here.
As a defense attorney and tax paying citizen....I would have rather they tailed him legally for the last couple of weeks.
I'm sure more will come out that all of us might change our minds. Hell, even if I represented the D and he is honestly innocent, I'd still want them to tail my client for the simple reason that if he is not guilty, he won't do anything stupid.

Depending on autopsy results, which could show an overdose, it still might not exonerate D for leaving her w/out support. I am guessing most people their ages with unfiltered and plenty of cash to go "out west", they were probably using a variety of substances.
That doesn't mean he didn't inject her intentionally with a lethal dosage of heroin.
