Did I miss the JBo KO thread?

I think his approach to most things is “there is no such thing as bad press”. Negative comments or positive comments, he doesn’t seem to care. Think about any Iowa player over the past 5 years that has created as much drama as he has.I can’t think of one.

And no, I don’t think he got beat up to get attention. But If your in a bar there is always the chance that something could go wrong.

What? Bohannon has his phone up recording while obviously talking shit to a guy. The guy taps him on the shoulder, is standing right in front of him, then knocks him out. Was he supposed to say "Hey Jordan, put your phone down we're gonna throw hands." Get real, that's far from a sucker punch. Maybe Jordan shouldn't run his mouth, and learn how to fight/dodge a punch if he's going to run his mouth. Looked like a junior high school girl pulling his phone out and recording like that. Didn't look like too many people rushed to his defense either. Jordan is a first class douche, surprised this hasn't happened many times before.
Yeah if you want to get into it with the guy, you say "drop the phone because we are throwing down" If he doesn't drop the phone and you want to fight him that badly, knock the phone out of his hand, then square up.

It's a sucker punch when you punch someone that isn't ready to be punched...plain and simple.

Someone is talking trash, you talk back. You want to take it to the next level, you make your intentions known and go there.

Anything else is just you preemptively hitting an unready combatant because you're worried if it's a fair fight you're going to have a harder time.

No offense but my guess is you would lose most fights, if not all. People who fight a lot typically don’t fight fair. Your intentions are honorable but maybe not wise in a potentially physical altercation.

I will say the world might be a better place if all were as honorable as you are.

You don't consider punching someone that's holding a phone in one hand a sucker punch?

Anytime someone is not engaged with the other and ready for a physical confrontation, that's a sucker punch.

It's a complete bitch move and there's no defending it.
I consider someone who, allegedly, threw ice at a group of people and then acted the way JB did, on camera, in the ped mall a fool for continuing to hold his phone in his hand instead of protecting himself.

It's been years since I've been down there at that time, but I'm guessing it hasn't changed too much since the mid 90's. If you talk a lot of sh1t in the ped mall past midnight and act like an asshole, which it appears JB was, you better be ready to throw hands. Fights were an every weekend occurrance down there but easily avoidable if you weren't looking for it...JBO certainly was and he needs to own that and learn from his behavior.

You may not like that, and that guy shouldn't go around swinging on people, but JB and anyone who is shocked he got hit is incredibly naive.

I'm not saying JBo shouldn't have been ready. I certainly would have been in that situation. That doesn't excuse the other guy's actions. It's a sucker punch, very simply.

I've been in enough fights and been in enough sketchy situations where stuff was popping off that I would never be holding a phone and not ready to defend myself.

Also, I'm not defending JBo's actions if he was instigating things and running his mouth. I'm saying if he was doing those things it didn't warrant being sucker punched.

i don't hate JBo but he is a narcissist and somewhat of prick in his public persona. Stockdale never did anything to draw attention to himself. He just did everything he could for his team. I don't know if JBo got what he deserved because I wasn't there. But I'm not surprised that he got into an altercation knowing his personality and that he rubs a lot of people the wrong way. I really think he needs to focus on basketball and avoid confrontation. But he is a guy that likes to instigate stuff and when you start stuff, it tends to get finished one way or another.

We can add Adam Shada to the list of hawked whipping boys.

You serious Clark? That was a sucker punch. He wasn’t even engaged with the guy. Goes to show what types of twats truly exist out there if you’re supporting this. I’m not even a JBo fan either...but c’mon square up and be a man about it. If the rumors are true these are two ex football players (ISU and Oregon) that had 75-100 lbs on JBO in their prime. Pick on someone your own size. 30 something year old tough guys probably just ruined their corporate career because of their thin skin.

Agreed. JBo was clearly looking at his phone, making a recording. He didn't see the punch FROM THE SIDE coming

I haven't been able to tell what actually transpired from any of the videos. Some people posting here must have been there and seen it happen live to be able to say everything thrown around in this thread.

If the people saying things one way or the other have only seen the videos I've seen, they are just speculating and letting their own psychological feelings about JB frame their interpretation of what must have happened. That's laziness.

You bring up a good point. I have just assumed the ice throwing rumor is correct. That is wrong of me.

In the event the ice throwing rumor is false I will owe Jordan an apology. Should the ice throwing rumor be true I stand by everything I have said.

No worries. It's a message board. Laziness is allowed, lol. I am interested in hearing the whole story, but I doubt it'll ever be entirely clear what that is.

But if JB did throw ice (even if he was sucker punched), he's not without blame. Just because someone is a D1 athlete doesn't mean they can't get their asses kicked. Happens a lot, honestly.

But if he didn't provoke anything, then it's horrible that he got hit like that. Actually, the punch when he was on the ground was inexcusable no matter what. He'd already been decked. That was sufficient if all he did was throw ice. He'd have to have screwed someone's girlfriend (or something) to get hit on the ground like that.

I have a feeling that the sucker punch artist is one of the posters on here. Certainly someone viewing what is being said. Plenty of the posters on here have the moral depravity to be a sucker puncher.

Having said that, I hope JBo learns to be cool and gets some wisdom. A wise person would have kept his mouth shut and vacated the volatile environment.

I love JBo as a player. He is one of the very few Hawks ever to have ice in his veins enough to nail the game winning shot.

So you are an Asshole to former players you don't care for? I support ALL Hawkeyes. Let me guess if Connor go popped you would also be happy. Is it verified that he was throwing ice?

Let's make a list of over former hawkeye whipping boys you would like to get 'popped'

Kyle McCann
Jake Rudock
Matt Stockdale

Who else are we missing. Fn ridiculous.

Again, this might be hard for you to process right now.
But I hope Jordan completely recovers without issue.

Is that gonna be a challenge to understand?

You did justify why people were applauding him getting hit. Funny you use Tim Dodge as your forum name. Another Hawkeye that at times had taken his hits on this board.

Dont make the decisions that put yourself in that position. It sounds like we was hammered drunk on the second level throwing ice and dumping his drink on a group on the first level. Total disrespect. Once confronted, dont continue to act like a total punk and further entice and escalate the situation. The guy is about to turn 24 years old grow the F up!

I trust that will be a learning situation for him moving forward. Quite frankly he is lucky it wasn't worse.

Embarrassing to read all these post as a Hawkeye fan and seeing how you all turn on your own athletes. And to think you call yourselves Hawk fans.

Most of these people aren't Hawk fans,.. I see a lot of Badger and Cyclone folks here..

Why do you believe that if you are a fan of team you have to 100% support every player on that team? I don't owe the players anything. Are you a big Pierre Pierce fan? Are you still mad at the girls who turned him in? "I can't believe those girls call themselves Hawkeye fans and turned him in for sexual assault, I support the players 100%." Oh I know, you think I'm comparing Jordan to Pierre, which I'm not.. I'm pointing out the fallacy in your logic. Fans do not have to support/defend/like every player on the team. If Brad Davidson was a Hawkeye I still wouldn't like him.

Spare us the righteous indignation and preaching about the characteristics of a “true” Hawkeye fan.

Before this incident, I’ve thought that Jordan Bohannon’s biggest fan was ... Jordan Bohannon. Being a Hawkeye fan doesn’t mean that I must agree with his opinions or avoid commenting on his shortcomings as a player vis-a-vis the competition. Wearing an Iowa basketball jersey on the floor of CHA is not the equivalent of wearing a criticism-proof jacket.

If he was acting like a smug, entitled ass before he got punched, it’s fair to point out that he was acting like a smug, entitled ass.

Thoughts on a former ISU football player that is 29 years old possibly being the guy that threw the sucker punch?

Not only embarrassing but disgusting as to the rationale justifying the punch. People die and are disfigured from a 'single punch' every year. But hey, its justified if your FEELINGS are hurt. Cancel culture justification because they dont like JB's opinions or attitude or whatever other nonsense being spewed. Hope the puncher actually gets prosecuted to the full extent of whatever laws in america still apply. I will bet if it was YOUR family, significant other, etc the attitude would not be so tacitly approving. Shameful.

My thoughts are the same for all parties involved to be honest. If we follow what has been widely speculated, I don't feel bad for JBo if he was splashing a wedding party with drinks if he got punched in a bar, that kind of behavior will lead to that. If the guy who punched him gets an assault charge, his behavior lead to that as well. It's all stupid behavior and the potential consequences of engaging in that behavior are well known.

And the inane and obnoxious virtue signaling continues.

No one is saying the punch was justified. People are saying Bohannon should be smarter.

I was taught one rule for fighting - break something and do it quick. Too many people talk crap and don't expect it to escalate from there. I was also taught there is always someone tougher than you. Natural consequences is the best teacher in the world. As a disclaimer - this comment has nothing to do with the JBo incident. Didn't see it so can't comment.

If jbo through ice he assulted the other person. I beleive some guy through water on steve king and got a assault charge. If he did it he got what he deserved a lesson in life

They used to stand up and go musket to musket with each other too. Honorable, absolutely. Smart, not so much. There are no rules in street fighting. Only consequences. Both parties.

I have on what I'd consider to be extremely solid authority that the person who hit Bohannon was, indeed, a former ISU football player. That same authority informs me that the stories of Bohannon chucking ice at people are also on solid footing.

I'll take "Knee-jerk Overuse of 'Cancel Culture'" for $500, Alex.
