DJ Carton?

All I can say is there's a great deal of speculation in this post. Hell' we don't really even know that he didn't just want out of OSU. He may be an asset and he may be a problem. Don't know how anyone would know at this point where the kids head is....

At this point everything surrounding carton is speculation. But it speaks volumes to me that Fran isn’t pursuing him. With a talent like him, right in his backyard and already recruited him once and Fran isn’t even interested? Either he is fully content with the guys he has, or he knows a little something we all dont. Again, just speculation

Math is difficult for some, let’s not tease. I actually couldn’t believe he thought those numbers supported his argument. I think Frederick’s play speaks for itself, made tons of clutch shots in big moments.

They in fact show that Carton was outperforming Frederick even while struggling with mental/emotional issues. If someone wants to find Frederick’s averages through Jan. only — go ahead. They’re not going to support the initial claim.

CJ played a full season for his team. Carton didn’t. To that extent, I guess you could say Frederick had a bigger impact on his team because he was there. That’s about it.

But the team didn’t really get better. They were elite at the beginning of the season then struggled in the tough part of the Big ten season and then righted the ship toward the end. Carton may have issues but Basketball talent isn’t one of them.

I’ll take CJs mental toughness as the deciding factor then.

CJ is more talented, he’s a winner and has ice in his veins. Iowa struggles when he was out with his foot/ankle injury.

By my math they were 12-7 with him and 8-3 without. And the schedule they played after he left was just as tough or tougher. Also 6 of the 12 wins with him were against low mid majors. Now this could just be a coincidence and they hit their stride going down the stretch and just so happens it was when he left the team. Like ive said previously, I don’t believe that is the case.

I don't think it was coincidence either. I watched pretty much every BIG game and televised non-conference games of all teams. When DJC was on the floor OSU struggled because he wanted to be the BMC. Obviously, watching on tv, but body language/expressions of other players indicated he was not all that well liked.

For Iowa, CJF is great and tough to replace in house, at least until SaucyT adds some polish to his game. We already have several great options for DJC’s potential spot.

Good luck to DJ but Iowa will be great regardless.

CJ is a phenomenal talent and I'm glad he's a Hawkeye. With that said, Carton is definitely more gifted if we are speaking in terms of talent alone.

Now, because of DJ's mental health issues, you could argue CJ has more of a positive impact on his team, which as of right now would be absolutely correct. However, based on a talent comparison, there's no debate. That comparison is up there with the Joe Weiskamp/Zion Williamson thread.

Carton averaged 10.4 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.8 rebounds per game playing through January only at which time he took a leave of absence.

CJ averaged 10.2 pts, 2.8 assts and 1.9 rebounds for the entire season.

Dude...

CJ was the most efficient player in the country and Luka was number 2 pretty impressive....

So who knows. Also, I work professionally in mental health and know just how debilitating mental health issues can be, so at this point I'm not going to think too ill of the kid.

Even putting all of that aside CJ is more important to Iowa’s success than DJ and it isn’t even close. Iowa has PGs for the next 4 years, need a good 2 guard and CJ is a great one. I doubted that kid early, never again, kid has huge stones and in college hoops that mental edge is huge. Iowa finally has players w a mental edge in Connor, Luka, JoBo, CJ and I think JoeT as well...this is Fran’s toughest squad in that regard, I wouldn’t want him to ride with anyone else this team doesn’t need the distraction.

Has nobody ever coached on here? Chemistry is the A#1 thing you can have. It will beat talent every time if they have no chemistry. CJ is a perfect fit for the Hawks, Carton would F that up so bad it wouldn't be funny. Wouldn't take him.
My team lost our supposed best player to another team and everyone thought we were done. Not only were we not done, we went 52-8, much better chemistry, camaraderie, caring, sharing. Chemistry is powerful. Lack of it is disastrous.

Tampering is strictly a clone fabrication....yes Carton was recruited by Iowa before he picked Ohio St, but Fran has a full boat and there was no need to seek out Carton to see if there was any interest....there was none on the Iowa end....as far as whether C.J. is better then Carton, I'll take C.J. all year long over Carton. Remember when Wieskamp and Carton met during their high school days....? Who of those 2 came out of top? Hint: it wasn't Carton and it wasn't even close. Carton was the best player on his Bettendorf team but he wasn't that highly regarded until his senior year and after he chose Ohio St. Did Carton lead his team to the State Championship like C.J. did? I don't think so...wherever Carton ends up he'll do OK, but this mental issues that shortened his season will always be with him. I'm guessing he'll enter the transfer portal more then once during his college days....
