Djokovic has Won 24 Grand Slams. Nadal at 22, Federer at 20. Djokovic Year End World #1 a Record 8 Times & World #1 a Record 404 Weeks(Federer at 310)

Djokovic is now the only man since Rod Laver in 1969 (52 years ago) to win the first three major tournaments in a season.

Sure, but Roger is 40, Nadal is mid 30ish.

Novak is doing a lot of his damage when these two are on the backside of their career peaks, and Nadal is closer to a one surface specialist.

Who did Novak best to win the three majors this year? Any career Top 10 guys?

I’d still take 2006 Federer over anyone.

Roger is 39.

Like I said, I am a Nadal fan, but I can look at this objectively.

Why does it matter who Novak beat to win the three majors this year? He simply beat everyone in front of him, where Federer, Nadal and everyone else did not. And for the record, Djokovic beat Nadal in the semi finals of this year's French, which is GOAT material in itself.

I am not going to guess if a 2006 Federer is better than a name your year Djokovic, because it's only an opinion.

And I guess Roger should have done more damage prior to 2011, when Sampras was done , when others were on the backside of their careers and before Djokovic was on the rise.

In 2011 Roger was only 29 and had a 16-1 Grand Slam advantage. Djokovic has dominated ever since.

Grand Slams At the start of 2011:
16: Federer
14: Sampras
..9: Nadal

Grand Slam titles since 2011:
19. Djokovic

Of course it’s an opinion. Isn’t that the topic of this thread?

And why does it matter who he beat? Because to be the best, you have to beat the best. And a Roger win over Nadal or a Novak win over Roger, etc. is far more impressive than a Novak win over Berrettini.

Your figure proves my point - Novak has dominated when Roger is well past his prime. Novak won 3 this year - when Roger is 39 and coming off knee surgery.

I am glad you are now aware that Roger is not 40 years old. And why are you making excuses for Roger having injuries when so has Nadal?

And, no, to be the best, you have to win 7 matches in a row at the Grand Slam event.

And actually, my figures prove you wrong and me right. Again, Roger should have won more Grand Slams before 2011, during his so called prime. He failed. And now Djokovic, the GOAT, has passed him by as a result.

Djoker also has a winning head to head record vs both Nadal and Federer. He’s for sure going to pass Nadal and Fed. He’s not as flashy as either of those 2, but hard to argue if and when he passes them he’s not the Goat.

Good grief, he’s 39 and will be 40 in next month. My apologies for the major error.

The numbers simply don't lie.

And I will take John McEnroe's opinion on the topic over the opinions of @St. Louis Hawk and @Kinnick.At.Night

This is what John said after Djokovic's remarkable 2021 French Open, where he beat Nadal in the semi's and Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Final.

John McEnroe thinks if Djokovic stays healthy he will win 25 Grand Slams.

Goran Ivanisevic, the 2001 Wimbledon champion, is now part of Djokovic's coaching team and thinks the GOAT debate will be over if the Serb wins the US Open in September.

"For me, Novak is the best ever. He's writing history. He's going to do it in US Open," said the Croat.

"I strongly believe he's going to do it. He's going to win all four in one year."

Great match. The U.S. Open has been really fun to watch. Looking forward to both finals.

If Djoker wins the grand slam, he will have really worked for it. Defeating the #6, #4 and #2 seeds to win the last three is impressive, to say the least.

The women’s final was great. It was so nice to hear two players duking it out without the over-the-top grunting and moaning.

Djchokovic got really Djchoked up at one point. I imagine it was because of him reflecting on making a teenage girl fear for her safety and then smashing his racquet like some douchebag Ankeny JV dipshit.

Fun match to watch but I've been a Medvedev fan for a while. He out villianed Djokavich but he seemed to see the silliesness if it all. Fun to watch.

Medvedev plaed amazing. I've never seen him serve that well in a huge match. I know Djoker was a bit gassed from his previous matches, but Medvedev was at another level for most of the match. The better player won yesterday.

2021 has been a hell of a run for Novak, though. I wonder if he would have been better served by skipping the Olympics and playing Toronto and/or Cinci instead.........

Pickle ball is getting really big out here. New courts are being built and several tennis courts are being redesigned for PB specs.
Yep, all the PB courts are full and the tennis courts empty. They are converting 2 of the tennis courts in North Liberty to 6 dedicated PB courts as we speak at Penn Meadows. IC converted 3 into 8 dedicated PB courts at Mercer Park. Johnson County PB has almost 300 dues paying members...

The thread title & original post have been updated.

As you can see, Djokovic has now been World #1 a record 346 weeks (he broke Federer's record of 310 weeks).

He ends the year at World #1 for a record 7th time.

Djokovic, now at 20 career Grand Slam titles, is tied with Federer & Nadal. He has won 8 of the last 13 major tournaments (it would have been 9 of 13 had he not been disqualified at the 2020 US Open for striking a line judge with a ball).

Most consider Federer the GOAT. It appears that way of thinking will soon change (if it hasn't already) as the Djoker has not only caught Fed & Nadal in career grand slam titles, but it appears he will soon pass them by.

Roger Federer out of Australian Open, doubts Wimbledon return in 2022

Nov 17, 2021
  • Reuters

Roger Federer is unlikely to return to competition until mid-2022 as he recovers from multiple knee surgeries, the former world number one told Swiss media.

Federer, 40, said he would be "extremely surprised to be able to play Wimbledon", Swiss website Le Matin quoted him as saying, but he did not rule out retirement.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion has been inactive since losing in the Wimbledon quarterfinals in July and has undergone a third round of knee surgery.

"Australia is not an option at all. But that's no surprise for me. Even before the operation, we knew that a break of many months would be necessary afterwards," Federer said.

"I will be able to resume running quietly in January and resume sessions on the court with complex support in March or April. I therefore estimate my return to competition will be in the summer of 2022.

"I had this operation done so that I could ski with my children or play football or tennis in the future. My primary motivation was to get back in shape for my normal life. But I wanted to approach this rehabilitation with the mentality and body of a top athlete.

"As far as my sporting ambitions are concerned: I want to see once again what I can achieve as a tennis pro. I'm fighting for it and I'm very motivated. I feel the support of my team and my family. We all wish that I can say goodbye on my own terms and on a court.

"My world will not collapse if I never play in another Grand Slam final. But it is my ultimate dream to return once again. And in fact, I still believe in it. I believe in these kinds of miracles. I have already experienced them."

Federer's agent did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Federer is tied with Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in the race to be the most successful men's singles Grand Slam champion of all time.

His coach Ivan Ljubicic had said earlier this week that Federer was unlikely to play at Melbourne Park in January as he was not going to be at 100 percent.

Jan 30, 2022 Update:

Today, Rafael Nadal won his 21st Grand Slam, winning the Australian Open. He beat
Daniil Medvedev in 5 sets, 2-6, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 in a match that lasted 5 hours, 24 minutes.

Djokovic is tied with Federer at 20 career Grand Slam titles. Djokovic has won 8 of the last 14 major tournaments (it would have been 9 of 14 had he not been disqualified at the 2020 US Open for striking a line judge with a ball).

Federer is the greatest technical player I’ve ever seen. Djokovic is the fittest tennis player. Nadal the most powerful elite player. It’s been so fun to watch the interplay. The last two decades have been the highest point in the sport.
federer is a lucky dude coz back in the day i decided to choose to pursue a different path. :)

Heck of a match, Medvedev losing game 6 in the 3rd up 3 breakpoints changed the rest of the match. That guy seems to get into his head way too much.

Yes. I watched by myself, but at the time I said that hold was going to be the turning point. In fact when he went from love 40 to 15-40 I could tell it had turned.

I thought Medvedev's serve would be the deciding factor. I also thought that Nadal, coming off a covid illness and a foot injury, would eventually run out of gas. Nadal just keeps proving people wrong.

And now will Nadal will Grand Slam #22 in Paris?

Men's and women's finals were anticlimactic to say the least. I think Gauf will be back in a big way over the next 10 years. Also the new bloods will have to take over men's tennis eventually right? Right?
