Some would say we did not have an identity about a month and half ago. Going into the postseason, how would you describe this squad?

We're who we thought we were!

I have a theory, and have had it for some time.

Before Christmas, Hawk teams often look sluggish. Humiliated on the boards against Illinois and blown out by ISU as a couple of examples. When the calendar turns, they usually look a lot fresher, more energetic. It certainly has been the case this year.

I think Fran works their butts off early in the season so they will be physically ready for Jan-March when the games and travel schedules really start to pile up.

These days their identity is to play fast on both ends, crash the boards, get steals, be smart with the ball.

As long as they shoot reasonably well, I like their chances to get to the semis. After that, who knows?

A superstar surrounded by a supporting cast of players with variable offensive output game to game.
The biggest change as a team is on the boards. That is a hugely welcome change going from absent to acceptable.

I voted no, but think we are getting close. Perkins coming on, Kris getting more time, Patrick improved. MAybe add more Sandfort instead of CMac so much.

I would say much of the turn around has to do with rebounding (and slightly better defense). Whatever they chose to do in practice/scheme has given us much better results.
I think some of us were/are concerned with defense/rebounding. Fran's offense has never been the question or key to success, which is why iowa is so frustrating. A small investment in the defense could be very rewarding.

Not trying to start a war again about who should be playing or not playing but when you have the 2 Murray bros and now Perkins becoming a 2 way player that’s 3 really good defenders. Plus rebounding as well. Allows us to mix and match the other 2 as needed.

They are really pushing up tempo and in this tourney, it will work if our players aren’t spent before the other team is with our deep bench and constant push and full court defense.
