Dochterman says that once a couple QBs hit the Portal Iowa will be all over them (Brendan Sullivan visiting May 7)

If Marco passing Deacon is true, I guess Lester got rid of the union cards. ;)

Regarding Marco's accuracy issues: in the offseason, he pays a QB Coach. Why doesn't that guy fix the flaws?
Are you sure he is paying a QB coach?
Wasn’t he Marco’s HS coach?
No inside info, just wondering where you heard he was paying a coach.

Brian had zero experience as an OC and 90% of his overall experience as a player and as a coach were under his father. It's pretty safe to say that most of what he learned about football was imprinted from his father. Also, anybody who believes that Kirk's impulse wasn't to become almost exclusively involved with Brian and the offense these last 2 years as he and his son drew the increased wrath of fans and media alike simply isn't thinking clearly. He was all in on his son and it crashed in spectacular fashion.
Plenty of (most?) sons aren’t clones of their fathers. Brian’s offense was different from that of the other three OCs under Kirk. Why do you assume it was exactly what Kirk wanted all along? Kirk set the parameters, but the rest was Brian’s, just as it was with Ken and Greg, and is with Tim.

No doubt Brian was hired before he was ready (assuming he ever will be) and should have been fired after 2022. Those things aren’t at issue here.

I don't know what's funnier - already declaring Marco a "miss," or blaming Barnes, as if he were the one out scouting QB talent.
Well I don't know what to tell ya bud but it's from a guy who other insiders seem to think highly of. Apparently the kids throwing motion is dog shit and they don't think he has the top end to compete at this level.

You must not get Chad Leistikow’s texts detailing info regarding Iowa football and Thompson deciding not to visit due to him wanting to go to a program where he is the number one qb.

Why would it be stupid to guarantee him the starting job? Cade is recovering from a torn ACL, two bad knees, then there is Hill and Lainez. Thompson is a five star qb that is healthy and can lead the O during spring drills with the new OC. Thompson is your starting qb going into spring and fall.

You are in a better position with Thompson compared to a recovering McNamara that was injured during spring ball recovering, got injured during fall camp, only to tear an ACL during a game last fall. It’s a no brainer to bring in a healthy five star qb with him as your presumptive starter.
You can’t be serious. You are laying out the exact same scenario as that 5 star QB who transferred from Clemson to NW, and was a complete disaster. Why was he a disaster? Because there was nothing suggesting he could play in college other than his rating from high school.

Maybe if Thompson had done something other than be a great high school QB, you consider telling him that. Oregon portaled in a QB over him not once, but twice. They didn’t seem to think he was worthy of being their starter for multiple years.

If he were a kid that Iowa should be guaranteeing a spot to, he wouldn’t be at Tulane.

He might be great, but how the hell does anybody know? Give me a break with this crap. Just stop.

Iowa needs a 4th QB on roster , that said maybe Cade stays healthy and If He doesn't I refuse to believe Marco forgot how to throw, watch His HS tape, that is the best HS tape I have seen from an Iowa QB commit since Drew Tate , He made all the throws and had pocket awareness you rarely see in HS kids . All this hand wringing should be reserved for those turnstiles Iowa calls OL and a WR room that couldn't catch herpes if they spent 3 months in a Pirate F*** tent. Iowa needs depth QB, a WR and a OT , I hope they address those 3 things like everyone else.

I think the problem is too many clowns think recruiting rankings are like NCAA 14 video game rankings... they struggle to separate video games from reality.

Not sure if it is an arm strength issue or he just needs practice, but his sideline throws were pretty weak at the spring game. I would fully agree that his game film was ridiculous, and his scramble ability vs Tennessee would put him up there with Banks.

Unfortunately for Lester, he did not have a chance to begin fixing the QB room until he was hired after the first wave of portal movings. Not his fault.....that lies with KF. Now what is going on behind the scenes right now I have NO idea but I am giving Lester a ton of latitude this year. I do believe our run game will be miles better, Marco is miles better than DH and will see a BUNCH of time awaiting Cade to come back AND we need another QB for depth purposes. It is not perfect by a long shot.....no doubt.
Too bad Resar didn't enroll in the spring. I do beleive that a true FR QB that can run and throw a bit is a better option than DH if forced into action. You would think theres a player on the team that played HS QB could be switched to QB for this emergency situation.

I'd be very surprised if Resar sticks at the qb position. This would also mean Iowa is down to its 3rd stringer for the season.

What part about Cade's injury history gives you confidence he'll be able to go all season?
Well it was non contact. And read literature on if one ACL really begets another ACL.

Would be much more concerned if he had multiple concussions or something like that.

It might as well have been Barnes given the production we've seen from the position these last 4 years. Between the recruiting, coaching, and development it's been 100% Ferentz led over the last several years and some people still want Kirk leading the charge on that front. It's incredible.

Link? Or is this from some rando? He looked decent at the spring game with plays made by his legs and arm. I don't buy into this crap at this point. He needs to work on his out throws, but we should be excited for him to see the field at some point.

Barring a portal qb, I anticipate split duty this year sparing CM from needless reps especially early on and using Marco as a change of pace guy. Both to diversify the offensive looks and to develop/evaluate Marco. This would be a big stretch for KF but maybe Lester will have that sway. To my eye Resar has the big hitch in his throwing motion🤷‍♂️.

He showed good arm strength in His HS film, not sure what is up , it could have just been a dead arm period all pitchers get in the ramp up process , end of spring , double reps it could have just been as simple as that .

There is no link. Most people on this board know Beth was pressured by Her to use the out that Barta set up.
I'm not saying it shouldn't have been done but she was pushed. She didn't just wake up one morning and say I think I'll fire Brian today.
And make no mistake at all, old Gar Bar was suggested out the door by the Prez. He didn't just say, hmm I think I want to stop now and go mow the grass for the rest of my life.

It's been discussed at length by different prognosticators, the scouting report on 247 lays it out nicely. He is an elite athlete that will likely find the field at a different position.

I'm trying to understand this, he's an elite athlete who can play multiple positions and our biggest need is QB, but yet he probably won't play QB?

Maybe they need to find a new QB coach to go to, this TR guy has not been impressive with the ones from Iowa. Stanley was far away the best of those 3 (thus far), but that was an "average" QB, nothing eye-popping.

There are pretty big concerns in-house about Lainez and his ability to be a Big Ten caliber QB. To say it lightly, Tyler Barnes (plus others) misjudged Lainez and his talent.
