Does not having a major airport in Iowa City hurt Iowa's ability to land out of state recruits?

That is a bogus excuse. If they are anywhere near DFW, there are several direct flights to CR. Their real reason was different.

LOL. Where did I say they were near DFW? Wow, some of you obviously have never set foot outside of Iowa. I grew up in CR but have lived all over the country and overseas. CR can be pretty expensive to get to from some areas of the country.

"I think Iowa would be a great choice for you, Honey, but I just can't take that layover in O'Hare a few times a year, so you'd better choose a place easier to get to, like Minnesota or Temple."

Nearest airport is Cedar Rapids, which doesn't seem that far. But it adds extra hassle to any recruit traveling from out of state on a visit, parents visiting to see games, and athletes traveling home to see family. Do you think this affects our ability to land out of state recruits? Are there any solutions?
No!! It's a perception thing. When kids & families have choices (especially in the south) they're not gonna pay their own way to go see iowa unfortunately. Official visits are the only paid for trips. You get 5 Officials. When you're a highly recruited kid you just not gonna use one on iowa.. unless you are a Midwest kid or have a connection & "get it". It's an unfortunate perception (corn fields & farmers) because when we get kids here on their own dime they are always impressed. IC can hang w anywhere. So.. no it's not the airport location.

Well, I can tell you one recruit from Texas whose parents I know eliminated Iowa (who was their favorite) because the parents wanted to attend all the games. They didn’t mind flying cross country if they had to but CR was just didn’t have enough options.
So they chose Penn State? Only a couple of more min. to fly to Penn State and into their major airport just outside of the stadium?
