I looked at the top 5 or 6 threads and all were negative. Frydaze, PhxIowa, CedarValley are the ring leaders. It is obvious how you feel about Ferentz, because you are incessant with your negative posts.

Wonder why any kid would want to come here with so much negativism. I for one am excited about the season. The defense should be better with our LBers having another year under their belt. Dbacks are a strength and I think Johnson will be a beast to compliment Ott.

C.J. is who everybody was begging for last year, RB should provide more big plays and WR is adding a lot of speed. To me the biggest question mark is the OL which could struggle early but get stronger as the season progresses. Special teams needs to be better and should be an area of focus this fall.

How about giving it a rest for awhile, we all know how you feel from the ponderous negative posts since season's end. The young men that lace it up every day deserve our support not our negative comments.

I for one can't wait for the season to start. Go Hawks!

Oh poor boy. Like another poster says just don't read us. Some of you people here are so super sensitive it's laughable.

I am trying to be optimistic, but don't see how CJ is going to stay healthy. I could see this OL being the worst of the last 10 years. Hopefully the weak schedule will minimize the carnage.

The fact our starting offensive tackles had one D1 offer combined continues to amaze me. How a school like Iowa finds itself in that position is incredibly frustrating but it mirrors the issues we have across most positions on this team. I will be surprised if Iowa finishes at or above .500 this year. We were outclassed by a wide margin against a mid level SEC team in our bowl game last December and our talent level has taken a step backwards from last year by most accounts. Despite an incredibly light schedule once again I don't see how this team finishes with a winning record. I hope I'm wrong.

True, for a team that's known for putting so many o linemen in the nfl we should have our pick of the crop. You would think they would be lining up to play ol at iowa.

Aren't 2 of the 3 LB's a walk on? You can strike gold once in a while with the Greenways, and Clark's of the world. These are not the same coaches who found those players...and I would not try to make a living doing this! When we are as conservative as KF and unwilling to change he cannot afford to gamble this much on talent! Execution won't matter when your out manned across the board...

It's a MB, it breeds the constant complainers. Most MB are like that. When KF is fired/quits/retires there will be a segment who will complain about the new guy from day 1.

The D&G crowd is damn tiresome.

After reading tweets from that reknowned football guru, Marc Morehouse, and/or visiting with their barstool buddy, who was "there," they know the season is lost due to the play of young offensive tackles against seasoned seniors at a semi-live practice 10 days into fall camp. Conclusions based on such as this is not where wisdom lies, but where confirmation bias thrives.

Agree. Far too many kids in the program that other power schools Didnt recruit. Dependent on too many great walk-on stories. Dependent on too many small town kids wanting to prove themselves against bigger and more athletic kids at other schools.

Some people confuse reality and wishful thinking. It's nice to be optimistic, but when the ship is sinking, that's reality and no amount of optimism will change it. Beathard is a big-time QB who, it appears, will be operating behind a below average O-line. Everybody knows it doesn't matter who you have in the backfield and as WRs if you don't have a decent O-line. KF is supposed to be an O-line guru, yet it seems the O-line is the weakest link on a mediocre team. I'm not sure how that works or how that should inspire hope.

And do you ever wonder why Iowa apparently has no second team tackles capable of pushing the first team guys despite the fact the first team guys are not exactly getting the job done? Whose fault is it that the O-line is rebuilding rather than reloading? I guess it's my fault for being so danged negative. It surely can't be the fault of the $4 million man.

KF likes to use baseball analogies, as many of you know. Well, Cubs' Manager Joe Maddon said this yesterday after his team made a few mistakes yet came up with its 9th straight win:
Maddon said he doesn't want players to worry about making mistakes.

"The moment players start worrying about making mistakes, then you don't play winning baseball, you don't play winning football, you don't play winning anything," Maddon said.

Maybe you friends of KF should pass that along to him. In the meantime, keep hoping and praying for the Hawkeyes. And whatever you do, do not look directly at reality. You won't be able to handle it.

Oh, and BTW: I guess some people missed my recent posts when I ignored reality and predicted the Hawkeyes would beat Illinois State 52-13 and Iowa State 49-10. I remember when those scores were facts rather than crazy pipe dreams, but those Iowa seasons were long, long ago. So while I hope those scores will come true in 2015, reality tells a far different tale.

Always a silly position. How do you know you do or do not like it until you have read it?

But yet the OP clearly names the posters and the disdain for their opinions. So there is no doubt that the OP knew going in that he/she wouldn't care of the content. Therefore the real silly position would be not to understand this was an attack on other posters and not merely and observation.

There
Marc Morehouse has forgotten more about the game of football than someone like you will ever know.

.

There you go again. Coming to conclusions based on inadequate information. And, the idiom that someone has forgotten more than the other person knows, is about as nonsensical a rejoinder as can be imagined.

Bower was a walk on. Niemann and Jewel are both scholarship athletes although Jewel was a late offer and could probably be considered a fall-back recruit.

How do you know all of this after a week of fall camp and the beginning of the season nearly three weeks away?

30 losses in the last 5 years and awful recruiting...forget the Viagra, all I need to go is think about Iowa Football.

Soybean, I hate to point it out and, perhaps, undermine your point, but I did say "IT APPEARS." I didn't claim to "KNOW." I realize reading is hard, but if you wish to refute a point, sometimes responding to what was actually said might be the way to go.

Based on scrutiny of recent seasons, the inexperience of key players in the O-line, KF and GD's stubborn refusal to get the ball to playmakers and obession with playing it safe...well, IT APPEARS all of this could, again, be a recipe for disaster. That's how IT APPEARS to me. If it appears otherwise to you, so be it, but the preponderance of the evidence would appear to support my view.

I didn't read a "seemingly" qualifier just prior to your "mediocre team" assertion...nice try...

'Kid's day'was the most depressing team I have ever witnessed in over 30 years. Usually you have 'some' hype. Ott/Daniels and that's it. Our back up QB's better get ready, plan on seeing ALL of them.

Actually the "slow" comment was proven in last years bowl game. We were stuck in mud.

This ^^ and the last several years is why the doom and gloom kids, the bright side is if the season goes like many think there will be a change coming. There better be anyway o_O

Thanks Tank, I couldn't remember...not as bad as I was thinking. Them and the OL are my biggest concerns.

Hey Hawk nut, I don't have to open their posts to tell if it is another negative thread. Doesn't take a friggin rocket scientist to see where they are going after reading the title. For what its worth, they have been negative for too long.

For the posters ripping on walk-ons, wonder who would like to tell Boone Meyer or Bower to their face that they can't play because they are walk-on players.

Trying to get some positive vibes going but I guess it won't happen. FWIW, not sure how anyone can make an opinion after 10 days of practice. I'm sure the line will improve this next week with 10 practices this week.
I'm not expecting great things but still think 8 wins is possible.

Well see about Boone and Bowers after this year. If they end up being great players and contributors that's awesome!

This is an 8 to 10 win team plenty to be optimistic about, I personally don't get the negative nellies.

You really want a bunch of walk ons playing for you? The reason why Boone and Bower are playing is because we have failed in recruiting at those two positions. I don't blame them for wanting to see the field and getting the most out of their God given ability. However it's a major fail on the coaches to put them in this position.

I feel/felt the same way about Steve Ferentz and lil Lick playing.

Speaking of silly... the thread title is usually a good indicator of whether it's negative...

Ah, the old "usually". This very thread is an example where "usually" fails. "Doom and Gloom" could either be backed up by "I am feeling doom and gloom after today's practice" or "I am so sick of the doom and gloom around here". Indeed, thread titles are sometimes purposefully misleading (or obtuse) so as to attract readers.

Certainly the doom and gloomers have every right to post anything they wish to, as do the sunshine and rainbow types. And we all can choose to keep reading it, once we get the gist of each position. But, my point was and remains: We do all get exposed to images and words we can't un-see or un-read. The "if you don't like it, don't read it" view is silly.

Just put them on ignore. I grew tired of the jackwagons that threw in the That's Football in every thread and all the other KF quotes. When it's all they add to any thread reading it once is enough for me.

Exactly. Why then would I read another post from them? Many years ago I had a halfwit sit down by me at Coralridge and complain about Alford and the upcoming season. I told him Alford left last year and found a new bench to sit at.

Blaming anonymous internet posters for 'kids not wanting to come here' is terribly lame. Ferentz's failures on the recruiting front are nobody's fault but his own. Having an aversion to the forward pass and a predictable offense more suited to the days of leather helmets doesn't sell these days - unless your goal is to steal recruits from MAC schools.

Is the fact Iowa hasn't been ranked since November of 2010 our fault as well?
