McC can flat out coach. He’s pretty intense but a proven winner. It’s just gonna be different going from the DeVries up and down style to the Virginia grind-it-out style that McC brought with him.

Johnny Moran & his flopping crew of teammates that kept getting rewarded. Most mad I’ve ever been as a Hawk fan. That & the Greenway offsides.

100% without a doubt the most angry I have ever been watching a game. I have never felt that the fix is in worse than that.

Worst part is I have a buddy on that UNI team who constantly talks about how clean that game, how good the officials were, was and how much he (and mostly everyone) hates Fran.

So was this one of those deals where the teams determine TV time and not winner/losers? They play at 10:30 and Miami is playing at 2:00?

I think it was preset actually.

Another 90 ppg team held in the 60s. The lockdown defense and offensive rebounding have been impressive.

when he was hired I thought, maybe our next coach, follows the Bo Ryan path......or if Devries does well at WVA--2 favs moving forward

Love the Drake

Winning games with 4 D2 transfers. Unbelievable. Then there’s Fran. I thought DeVries was a good coach, but this guys track record of 4 nattys proves that if you can coach it doesn’t matter where you’re coaching. This is an anti Jimmy vs Joes team. So well schooled. I figured once they ran into athletic teams they would really struggle. Not at all.

I suppose in the era of new rosters every year it shouldn’t be that surprising that they’re doing well early in the season when they have so many returners.

So we’ll see what happens when they get into the heart of the MVC season and the real measuring stick of McC will be what he does next season when he loses like 5 guys.

Having said all of that, their tallest player is 6’8 and they dominated Miami and FAU on the glass. That tells me that even with an undersized team, he’s getting maximum effort out of what he does have.

I think they will be fine the rest of the year and following years with McC because of the effort he demands, and he has a proven system. You do not win four national titles at any level unless you are good at your job. JMO

Oh absolutely and I hope that’s the case as a Drake fan. My point was that D1 recruiting and roster management, particularly for mid majors, is an entirely different animal than it used to be. Mid majors are essentially one or two year farm teams for high majors now. But hopefully the system is solid enough that it won’t be shook by guys coming in and out every year.

I would take the Drake coach over McCaffery any day.

I think Fran Fans would tell you that you just don't understand how good its been under Fran.

Hovering around 51% Big10 record and he gets to the NCAA tourney often, but only wins 1 out of 3 games when he does get into the tourney. He's good at keeping Iowa out of the Bottom half of B1G---that is his claim to fame.

I would take Otzelberger or a similar type coach...getting it done with $1-$2 million NIL budge.

One thing I noticed in their highlights is that they have a lot of agility and skill in midair. They also pass well, with only 6 turnovers all game. That's 10 less than we had last night.

They play tomorrow night vs Vanderbilt on ESPN. Go Dawgs!
Nice, thanks for the heads up, I would have overlooked that. Ben McCollum is certainly worth keeping an eye on. It's pretty clear Fran will be here for no more than 3 years. Let's see if McCollum will be successful at Drake as well.
