Record couldn't go to a classier guy. I've always had a lot of respect for him.

Didn't he have an interest in coming to Iowa? I seem to recall him really liking our style of play but we didn't offer and signed Sherman instead. Am I remembering this correctly or have I lost my marbles in my old age?

Would have been closer to McCann than Sherman, but yes, that is pretty close to what allegedly happened.

It was McCann.

The only offers Brees had were from Purdue and Kentucky. An Iowa manager did find the old highlight video Brees had sent to Iowa a couple years ago in the old VHS tapes, but I imagine he probably sent those to a lot of different schools.

Was talking about him earlier today. When the conversation of "best QB of all time" comes up, no one puts him in the conversation but they probably should. He has been the model of durability and excellence. He has also been 100% class and someone kids can look up to. Very happy for him.

Oh yeah well I dont like that he played quarterback on the 2009 team that shouldn't have beaten the Vikings in the NFC Championship game.

If Brees was such a stand-up guy, then he would've let Minnesota win to make me happy (along with every other Viking fan living or otherwise). That isn't too much to ask......

Well, the Vikes have had some great moments the past 50 years:

(Sorry, couldn't resist)

The story I heard was his mother called coach Fry and begged him to give Drew a scholarship. Hayden told her he promised the another QB the scholarship. I thought it was Sherman but it could have been McCann. Anyway Drew went to Purdue and the rest as they say is history. To bad it was not our history.

Crazy that this is year 18 in the NFL for him.

Wouldn’t have been the same player here. You can’t simply plug in like that. Different offense, philosophy, etc. He likely would have had to sit behind mccann or someone like him

Brees was a perfect fit for Joe Tiller's system. Tiller brought the same offensive stylistic changes to the B10 in the 90s that Fry brought in the 80s. He didn't have the dominant top ten finishes or 10 win seasons to be at the level of Hayden, but his influence doesn't get the credit it deserves.

We almost had Kirk Cousins and Melvin Gordon on the same team. But hey, we had Dandy Vandy and Weisman instead and that's pretty much the same thing.
