Dual Meets and Tournament Scoring

I have been thinking about the current scoring system and think it could be improved for the average fan, increased aggressiveness, and viewing of the later matches. Here is what I am thinking

Dual Meets:

I would propose that in dual meets the team scores be an accumulation of the match score, for example Gillman wins 10-3 and Clark wins 8-0 then the team score going into Brody's match would be 18-3.

Ties would be allowed, Techfalls would be eliminated in duals, and pins would be the match score plus 15 points.

So if the match continued that Brody beat his guy 32-5 the duel score would be 50 to 8. Then BS was beating his guy 12 to 2 when he pinned him the match score would be 62+15 to 10 or 77 to 10.

I believe this would encourage more aggressive wrestling as racking up points and pinning people would be rewarded. Heavyweight bouts would be more watched as they are more likely to have pins and a significant outcome on the match.

Tournaments:

In tournaments, I would bring back the techfall, sudden victory, and no team score would be kept, it would be all about the individual moving on to the next round.

Team and Individual National Championships:

I believe the team NC should be determined by the National Duals Tournament and a week later there would be an individual champion tournament with no team score.

Let me know how you would improve my ideas and/or the current system.

Are you talking about wrestling or a gun fight?

To me that would take away from the "Technical" side of wrestling and the scrambles and the "counter-react" style of the sport. What makes wrestling so great is how you can out-manuever and out-smart your opponent to win... Sometimes the best wrestlers are the patient ones. Jason Tsirtsis is a good example, he is so boring to watch but he is soooo good because he catches you when you make a mistake. His best moves are often counter moves where he advances from his opponents misjudgments...

The new rules on stalling have already done a lot to improve the aggressiveness in my opinion. You have some interesting ideas but in your scenario it would lead to wrestlers being in a constant state of "Hurry-up" mode all the time trying to put up tons of points. I forsee outright chaos and fights and a lot of quick-strike aggressive brawling. It would just be a slugfest and the strongest survives.

Basically you would be turning College wrestling into MMA... I like it the way it is now....

Under this scenario a team could win a dual with one great wrestler and going 1-9 in the matches. Not sure that would be an effective way to determine the better team.

I agree the stalling rules have helped but we are going to disagree about what is more entertaining. I like the brawling style of wrestling and found t-shirt and Morning* almost unbearable to watch even when I was routing for them.

Yup. Or worse yet there's an injury and someone has to go with a backup who gets smoked.

Tournament scoring has been around forever and it isn't broken. Why are we trying to fix it?

Agree, one pin versus nine matches of 1-0 scores could end up with a team winning 15-9. Time to return to currently scheduled programming
