He's listed at 141 on the roster. Hopefully the cream will rise to the top with Turk, Happel, Duggan, and Murin all at 141 for now. (Would be ecstatic if Murin or Happel could make 133 in 2019 & 2020, but for now it looks like Stickley/Glynn).Speaking of Patrick, any chance he could make 141? He hadn't had success yet at 149, but he's got skills.
In his article about going to IC West it sounded like he wanted to be a hawk. I think the Cassioppi commitment happened about the same time frame. Unfortunately a weight with no flexibility. He has a good frame, 6'3". Is athletic. He took Chase Singletary to OT in a tourney last season.

When saw the headline about had a heart attack. Thought we were talking QB.
One of Harrington/Gremmel will never finish @ ISU, imo.
Little Brother to Patrick Duggan. I figured he was out on Iowa after they got Cassioppi's commitment. He should get a chance to start his Junior year when Gremmel and Harrington are gone.

The kid moved clear to Iowa from PA... he wanted to be a Hawkeye. Brands kinda pulled a "Cael" on this one and decided to bring in someone better...

Why would it be called a "Cael", the only case I can think of was Haines? Brands on the other hand has been doing a lot of over recruiting. Take a look at how many 141s you guys have in the room, how about what happened to Renteria, Meja or Costello? In this case, the guy was committed enough that he actually moved to Iowa yet was still over recruited.
Point stands no matter what school he is a fan of. Brands has taken over-recruiting to another level and has done it more then any other Division I coach over the past couple years. Therefore our ISU poster should be calling it a "Brands"

Agreed. Besides, Mejia hasn't even been able to gain admission to a D1 school.just because sophomores say the commit, doesn't mean they actually had an offer.
Tricky applications.Agreed. Besides, Mejia hasn't even been able to gain admission to a D1 school.

If you're a D1 coach and aren't over-recruiting guys, you're missing the point. You get what you earn.
Sounds more like a guarantee than a plan. Who, with any integrity, could guarantee a young man a spot on the starting roster with multiple equitable wrestlers at the same weight? It's one thing to recruit guys and tell them up front that they are going to compete for a spot. Normally, these types of guys understand that...otherwise, they would have gone to Podunk U. Also, most of these are not full schollie guys. PSU is bringing in top ten guys and are going to be two deep in some spots.
The rumor is that Brands specifically will not give a wrestler a "plan." Basically a verbal commitment to him that he will start at such and such weight. I think this is one of the reasons why Teske didn't go with Iowa which probably means he did get a "plan" from Cael.

I hear Carr is Iowa State or Cornell on the Ohio State boards. Announcing tomorrow. I don't have any inside information, I had thought he was going to be a Buckeye for quite awhile, but apparently not. Tomorrow morning he is announcing live on Flo. That would be a huge pickup for ISU and along with Duggan would relieve the sting of losing Teske a little bit.
A plan is an honest assessment of where the coaches see the kid in the lineup.Sure, but any half assed political guy can couch his words.

"I see you coming in at 125, taking a redshirt, bulking up, and being a 4-time champ at 133."
Nothing sleazy or dishonest or over-promising about it.
Gable did it. There's a story about why Tim Krieger chose Iowa State over Iowa back in the early '80s. Gable told him, "I see you sitting for a year behind (Jim) Heffernan, then being a 3-time champ." Krieger didn't like that plan.
If I'm a recruit, not articulating a plan to me sounds like you're not fully committed to my success, like you don't care enough about whether I commit to even think about where I fit into your lineup. If I'm a blue-chip recruit, I can guarantee you that the coach down the road is giving me a plan.

Sure...sounds great in theory. Most of the time, you can do that with the very elite like a Spencer Lee. How do you give a plan to Renteria or Mejia when Lee and Teasdale come on board? Not knowing who will grow or not, you are just dealing in hypotheticals. “JRent, I see you being my 133 and Teasdale my 141.”All just words really. PSU can play musical chairs at 125, 133, 141 but if team championship is at stake, the best guy is going to go regardless of “the plan.”
I don’t think you are necessarily saying this but too many of today’s college coaches are all about themeselves and all about winning at any cost. If it’s a light gray area, heck even a dark gray area, or darker it gets done if that is what it takes. Tell a recruit everything he wants to hear, true or not, just to get him. Tell him he can not explore other opportunities. Doesn’t matter if he never plays or wrestles, after all it’s all about the coach, his job, and winning. For some anyway. It is possible to win and still treat each athlete fairly and with respect. The "plan" goes out the door as soon as the recruit is on the roster, everyone knows that. But laying out a "plan" for a recruit's future that correlates to the vision that recruit has for themself is critical when vying for a recruit that is being sought after by many of the top programs.
Tell a recruit "the lineup will shake itself out and the best guy will have the spots," isn't the best option most of the time. I believe that is the point here.
