I want to see a smarter, more reasoned GOP. AS an independant, I might vote for them. I agree with some of what they propose (more fiscal than anything else). But this current field of R's is easy to dismiss.

I can't think of one issue I agree with the GOP on. I'm talking about what the GOP actually is and does, not the fantasy land they like to make people believe they stand for. I love fiscal responsibility. Republicans don't have it and in fact are pretty much all of the problem. At least that's the way it's been for my entire lifetime.

you know those tables both showed the number of border encounters, right? meaning, they are coming into contact with border patrol, law enforcement, etc.

I'd be more than happy to have a discussion on immigration policy, but imo Republicans are more interested in this topic as a hot button issue for their base.

Your chart shows the opposite. The great majority of migrants at the people are encountering border patrols, local law enforcement, etc., and from there are either being turned away, entered into asylum process, detained at least temporarily etc.

Again, I'm all for comprehensive immigration reform. I've yet to see any sign that Republicans are.

Ok great. Whta does 'comprehensive immigration reform" mean. Like exactly. Because it sounds a lot like all the other emocrat slogans like 'common sense gun control'

My recommendation:

1. Close the border. Period.
2. No one comes in without a full background screening no matter how many women and children you've drug along. They can apply for entry or asylum online or in person and the embassy in the country of origin. Yes thjis will mean a delay.
3. Bring in the national guard. Erect a wall or barrier where appropriate. IN places this isnt, use drones, motion sensor and any other technology we might have.
4. Establish aggressive quotas for work visas. Consider some sort of technological monitoring so as to keep track of individuals. Maybe create some sort of monthly check ins or something to be sure they don't get in and disappear. Failure to check in or disabling of any monitoring system results in immediate deportation once found.

Thats a start.
