End of Game WTF AGAIN

Was yelling at the TV when Jok gave up the ball to JBo on the second to last possession. I knew he would never be able to get it back.

OP you're way off base on this criticism. That was one of the best end of game plays we have run in Frans career. The refs are a bunch of gutless chicken shit refs I have ever seen. They should be reprimanded for the blatant bear hug that Bryant got away with and all 3 swallowed their whistles.

Our OT record should be 3-1. We got hosed up in Minny with the dipshit refs having selective hearing.
I could hear him calling timeout from the tv. I'm still pissed off about that call!
I guess I'll need some therapy to get over it.

No, he took a timeout up 1 with Indiana having one more FT coming, so you were going to get the ball tied or up one. If you are up one it means that you already have the ball inbounds and don't need a timeout to inbound. So Fran should use this timeout to call two plays, one for tied and one for down one.
I do like the idea of running the weave or some sort of motion offense. Keep the defense moving and heads turning and someone may free up. My complaint is we have seen the same process play out for 5 years where the PG dribbles around for 20+ seconds and then hope to get off a shot. Since we have Cook who is able to get good position on the block (didn't have that option with Woody), it does provide another place for the PG to go in the last 4 seconds. Cook's shot was actually one of the best end game shots that I remember from a Fran team, so I am not at all arguing he should not have gotten the ball, rather the process at end of game. Agreed that Cook was fouled at least once, but they were definitely not going to call something there either that would "determine" the game

Who's hands would the ball be in up one? Do you want it in Cook's hands or in Jok/Bohannon/Brady's hands to shoot free throws? My point was call the timeout when the bigs rebound to get the ball to our free throw specialists.

I won't argue about calling two plays. It's a common practice. I also don't mind calling a second timeout with such a young team to ensure everyone is on the same page.

Officials almost never make a call in the last second of the game. They don't want to be the deciding factor. It happens to everybody.

They were the deciding factor though... gave Indiana an undeserved chance to win the game in OT

As has been mentioned before, refs almost always swallow their whistle at the end of games, so it makes no sense to depend on them. That, and Bryant had been shutting down Cook and had a few blocks near the end of regulation. If I remember correctly, Cook was 0-7 going into The final minutes of play.
I hope this isn't Frans best plan moving forward.

Holy mother funk...we win an OT game..after a horrible start...and we get a thread like this...further you have no idea what the play was ...I'm pretty sure Cook wasn't the only option...I'm sure Jok was an option coming out of the huddle...but you cant force it if the Jok option is not there.

you don't think Indiana was focused on Jok...go back and look at the replay..

give it up.[/QUOT

So true. How many times has Jok forced it in critical time and lost the ball.. Get it low and force a foul or score. I was thrilled with how played out except for the no call.

Yeah I actually liked the final play because we went to someone else besides Jok. Fran's MO in close games has been to give Jok the ball on every possession down the stretch in close games. The second-to-last possession was a nightmare turning a 2-point lead with the ball into a runout on the other end for a foul. But the last possession was as good as it gets, the officials just determined not to call a foul for whatever reason.

I liked the play because everyone in the building probably thought it was going to Jok. I don’t want him trying to do anything off the dribble in a tight situation like that. Cook got absolutely mauled. The guy had his one arm almost wrapped around him.

I don't always agree with you...I'm sure you don't me as well...you are spot on here..can you imagine had we lost this game in OT? ... yet what thread do we get?.....without a single mention about Cook getting bear hugged,,,was that not an end of game event?

at Minnesota..we get royally screwed...what do we read?...oh well the 18 turnovers.

some people are hopeless..

You could make a good argument that we should be undefeated in OT games. Everyone remembers the no-timeout play at Minny, but I believe the overall officiating at Nebby at the end of the game and in the OTs was even more one-sided.

Slightly off topic: Home teams usually get calls, but watching the Mary Land vs Goofers last night, the same officials, who were calling moving screens repeatedly against the Hawks, were allowing Minny's players to set moving screens over and over again. Little Dick Pitino is living a charmed life with the B1G officials for some reason???

Yeah, I actually liked the play call as well. I'll take a two foot shot inside with 2 seconds left all day by one of our big men.

I think it was designed that way. Cook should have been at the line.

The play I didn't like was the earlier play, Bohannon was trying to run the clock out and turned it over for run out the other way. Fran could have called
TO to set something up.
You can't run out the official clock when there is less time on the shot clock. The debacle was the possession when Iowa was up 75-73. Bohannon in all kinds of trouble and Fran watched with arms crossed and 3 timeouts in his pocket.

Great thread, But I don't over-analyze when we win. True, Cook got mauled. Bohannon should never have put on a dribbling act before he got picked. On and on. I was just happy our kids hustled all the way to the end.
