If you are in the city at all, I recommend checking out the Ballard Locks for the salmon ladder. It really is an experience you can't see anywhere else and especially not in the Midwest.
Now is a perfect time of year. You can walk across the water it is so lousy with salmon.

MPG per passenger mile is likely worse for vehicles. Should we all stop driving too? What about heating and cooling our homes, go without?

Are you saying those that fly don’t also drive their cars and heat their homes. The amount of carbon pushed into the atmosphere for pleasure is staggering.

It affects all of us, you act as though flying commercially is something only the well heeled elites do. Most Americans fly commercially.
And as I stated, flying is likely more efficient than driving from an energy efficiency standpoint, so air passengers are helping in that sense.
Depends on the social media one follows. Within certain groups you might as well put bars upon all your windows, load up on non-perishables and ammunition and wait for the "bad guy with a gun" to show up. Travel to any cities or to any country is the equivalent of a game of Russian roulette so why risk it?
