I was wondering if Iowa would knock MSU down to Quad 2 after that huge blow out. Although that point differential is probably what moved Iowa up to 18 since it improved Iowa’s defensive rating.

I just don't see Iowa being a 9 after last night especially. Put Michigan States resume and Iowas next to each other and Iowas is better with a head to head victory last night. Iowa is the 7 and Mich. State at this point is an 8.

Yep, beat Nebraska and PSU at a minimum and get 1 or 2 in BTT and we are definitely off the 8/9 line.

The only thing I can think of for why we are getting dinged and considered an 8 or 9 seed:
* Just one Quad 1 win
* #328 Nonconference strength of schedule (out of 358 teams). MSU's, btw, is #60.

BigO, instead of PSU, I think you meant N'western. ;)

Iowa is 19-8, 9-7. With 4 games to go and based on how Iowa is playing, 22-9, 12-8 seems possible.

I just hope we can get to that 7 seed or better.

Was thinking Sparty was Quad 1 win however they are 35 and for home games that needs to be sub 30 for NET.

They were 28 heading into last night but that pushed them down to 35.

What's interesting is that we could have had up to 4 more Quad 1 wins if these 4 teams had not struggled so much: #35 Michigan State, #43 Indiana, #61 Utah State, #82 Virginia.

Heading into tonight's games, here's the breakdown of our record:

Quad 1 (1-5):
Home: 1-30
Away: 1-75

Wins
AT #19 Ohio State (13 point win)

Losses
#11 Purdue
#14 Illinois
AT #11 Purdue
AT #20 Wisconsin
AT #34 Iowa State

Quad 2 (6-3):
Home: 31-75
Away: 76-135
Neutral: 51-100

Wins
#35 Michigan State (by 26 points)
#43 Indiana
#61 Utah State (Neutral, by 19 points)
AT #82 Virginia
AT #93 Maryland (by 23 points)
AT #101 Minnesota (by 10 points)

Losses
#33 Michigan
AT #80 Rutgers
AT #85 Penn State

Quad 3 (4-0):
Home: 76-160
Away: 136-240

Wins
#85 Penn State (by 17 points)
#93 Maryland
#101 Minnesota (by 12 points)
#147 Longwood (by 33 points)

So, Mich St. could still move back up to q1 for us, correct?

Possibly, but just remember that they have now lost 5 of 6.

MSU (now #36 in the NET rankings) quickly went from 17-4 to 18-9. They are not playing well. At all.

MSU's Remaining Schedule:
HOME vs Purdue (#10 in the NET Rankings)
at Michigan (#33 in the NET Rankings)
at Ohio State (#19 in the NET Rankings)
HOME vs Maryland (#95 in the NET Rankings)

That's gonna be a touch haul for them, only 1 obvious win in that group of games. Are they still in at 19-12?

Seems like after every big Iowa win the opposing team turns to crap. Utah State lost their point guard shortly after losing to Iowa (he just returned), Virginia got upset by James Madison after losing to Iowa, Indiana turned to crap after Iowa beat them, and Michigan State is now turning into crap.

The Ohio State win will probably remain a good one, they play at Illinois tonight but they have winnable games left on their schedule.

Yep, that's exactly what I was expecting. I figured Ohio State had to move up at least 1 spot for that huge road win and they moved up 2.

The Nebraska game tonight only moves the needle if Iowa was to lose. A win maintains status quo unless it's a huge blow out where it helps the offensive/defensive efficiency. Fingers are crossed as I expect Nebraska to bring it tonight, it's still a rivalry game and we know Hoiberg is going to want this one.

I’m a Debbie Downer today. Hawks win by 8 in Lincoln. Probably drop 2 spots in the NET ratings.

I don't think it will, at this point in the season the needle doesn't move much based on who you play unless you pull off a huge upset or get upset. Look at Wisconsin's ranking, they are ranked behind us even though they have a WAY better record against Q1 and Q2. Iowa is 7-8 while Wisconsin is 14-4 in Q1 & Q2 games yet Wisconsin is ranked 2 spots behind Iowa. What that tells us is the offensive and defensive efficiency is weighing heavily on the NET rankings. Iowa leads the Big Ten in points per game, they score 83.6 while allowing 71 in the meantime Wisconsin scores 71.1 and allows 66.4. Basically when Iowa wins they win big and when they lose it's a close one.

They will have to win their tournament won't they? Don't think they would get an at large

Yeah they have them listed as the Automatic Qualifier, which is going to be tough for them to win. Any one of Drake, Missouri State, UNI, or Loyola can win that conference tournament.
