In fairness, if Iowa loses in the regular season and/or the CCG then they will have been right. Even with all the negative opinions I don't think I've heard a commentator on ESPN say that if Iowa goes 13-0 they don't deserve to be in the playoffs. Of course, I haven't listened to all of them either so I'm sure there's somebody but it seems the majority feel that way.
A couple things. First, there is at least one talking had who said absolutely Iowa should not be in even if they run the table. He is the exception though.
Second, they are not really "right". If they said iowa had an unproductive second half and still won comfortably, that would be right. If they said iowa doesn't have a marquee win but they do have a decent resume to date, that would be right. If they said we were blessed with a relatively easy back half of our schedule with no OSU, MSU or Mich., that would be right.
What's not right is that we didn't "avoid" anyone. What's not right is that we haven't played anyone. Bama beat a tough Wisconsin squad but we got Wisconsin in an off year. You can't have it both ways.
The bottom line: I'm ok with anyone saying "hey, there's a lot of games left but at this point they're in the discussion." What I don't like is trying to minimize every win we have while playing up wins by teams they want to keep in the discussion. It's disingenuous and make no mistake....It is happening and it's deliberate.
