Europe Trip Discussion

Hawks win it 106-64. Will they cruise in the next one if they sit Garza? I think we are going to find out.

No stat sheet yet. The leading scorers: Garza 25, and Moss 18. Also of note Kriener 13 points and 3 blocks, and Williams 10 points and 7 assists.

Garza's stats so far on this trip: Minutes 42 FG 19-29 FT 17-20 3pt 1-4 Reb 24 Ast 3 Stl 5 Blk 1 Pts 56

I think he is 24-27 from the line for 89%. Missed 2 the first day(12-14), none the next game(7-7) and one today at the half(5-6)... Impressive.

These may not be packed arenas, but that is a decent sample size considering they are all opponent's gyms on the road!

With our other bigs improving their shots from the charity stripe, this has me quite stoked! Easily several extra wins this season just because of that. Add in the improved O & D, and look out B1G!!!

Everyone is looking at Garza and Nunge, but did you notice Bohanan was 1/6 today and I think 1/4 or 5 last game. And today only 2 assists and a low number last game. What gives?

Wouldn't read too much into it, especially with the Euro ball

I'm not going to lose any sleep over Bohannon shooting poorly using a foreign ball in a meaningless game.

And in a YMCA looking gym! Can you imagine what the shooters background might be like? I'm with you. Until JBO starts playing like crap in games that matter, I'll hold on to the last half dozen or so real games he played, which were spectacular.

Ok - from a basketball perspective, the trip is over. The boys get to enjoy a bit more vacation, so let's recap how things went. What are your take aways?

Winner:
Garza - dude consistently filled the stat sheet (even in additional time that we didn't expect to see, playing all four games)
Moss - Without seeing the games, I'd guess he took advantage of the emphasis on transition offense. He also shot the ball well from the stats I saw.

Loser:
Wagner - looked like his box scores were pretty empty. That can happen when you're the 5th option. I didn't get to watch much, so I can't say he didn't contribute, as there may have been hustle plays (defense, deflections, charges drawn, etc.), but against this competition I would have liked to see everyone really shine.
Pemsl/Williams - due to missing opportunities to compete (injury). With this much competition, you want to be able to match the punches thrown by the people trying to take your minutes.

The guards didn't seem to shoot it that well overall (Moss was the exception from what I saw), I don't have the stats in front of me, but I remember seeing Bohannon under 50% a few times and seemingly 1-? from 3 point a few times. Not going to worry too much at this point, given different gyms, time change, travel, etc.

It was clearly a focus to get out and run - a lot of the highlights seemed to be fast break. It looks like teams will have to choose whether they are offensive rebounding or getting back to stop our transition attack. If Garza, Cook, Kriener, and co. can clean up the defensive glass consistently, we have a chance to be really really good.

I was really hoping that Brady could step up and fill the outside shooter role. However, other than the second half of 1st game, he was 0-FER from 3pt land. If he can't outshoot Williams, he won't see the floor.
