Everyone Who Says Brock & Pryce Aren’t Big Players. . .

I have yet to see Iowa play in person. I’ve seen Rutgers play multiple times. Just ask their fan base about the effort level, but more so how their coaching staff has somehow managed to take a team with two of the best players in the country and lose more games than you’ve won. People aren’t happy.
last night Rutgers was very poorly coached. They should have taken the ball down low more. They settled on offense once they made some three's.

Can kindly F off. These two are ballers and, with Dix and Dembele, won the game tonight.
Normally you post well thought out posts. But someone didn't watch the first half?? Good 2nd half, but atrocious 1st half. What were you thinking after the first 20 minutes?

You’re not wrong. Dix was solid the first half and Brock took some time to warm up. Dembele was night and day first half to 2nd.

Who would win one on one Brock v. Cooper? This may need a separate thread... lol

Please. Let’s compare their stats to other Big players. Because you’d find they fit in nicely. Brock has one of the best assist/turnover ratios in the Big and they are both plus 3 point shooters at 37&39% I’m not contending that they are All Big players, but this narrative that they don’t belong on a Big roster is stupid.

Honestly, I think Pryce may end up being as good as Dix. Lots of Bobby Hansen in his game, especially mentally.
Pryce will never be close to Josh, especially on the defensive end. Both Sandforts are at best below average defensively.

Harding and Pryce are both good role players.

Yes, Pryce wont ever be the defender Dix is, although Johs defense hasn't been as good this year, I think Pryce has higher upside than Payton, even though he'll probably never have the big scoring outbursts he's a better all around player.

Pryce takes it to the basket better than Payton, but Payton has a wider array of midrange shots. Both are not terrible post-up defenders, they don't back down, but both are really bad defenders in the open court and on ball switches. Dix is still are best defender and Thelwell is also a good defender, but Josh has had some lapses, where he almost seems to have given up.

I’ve thought the same thing about Dix’s defense. Not as tight as we’ve seen in the past. Don’t know if he’s pacing himself or what.

Pryce isn’t the defender Dix is, but he’s not terrible like his brother. I also think he has more of a scorers mentality than Dix. I think Dix doesn’t like to force things, when sometimes a scorer has to.

lol, this aged as well as I thought it would 1 game later. The OP and “fans” like him are clueless.

The OP stated with certainty after the Iowa State game that "Iowa will easily make the NCAA Tournament."

The OP stated with certainty that "Brock Harding could definitely become the next Braden Smith."

Just between you and me...the OP is a proven idiot.

Probably an Iowa State fan making us Iowa fans look bad!!!

You’re crazy.

Are we really at a point where we are playing the "I told you so" game after our first away win of the season against a bad Rutgers team?
none of our problems are because of most of our players. The coaching and lack of grit and sensible fundamentals around D and protecting your own rim are so far gone for this team you have no basis to win games unless you shoot lights out for an entire game. We all know this model doesn’t work and yet Fran lives by it.

Why games like the Nebraska win are fools gold.

I'm fine with Harding as a limited minutes backup being kept on. As long as he is a very minimal hit to the payroll.
I'd just as soon Pryce move on elsewhere when a new head man takes over. I think his roster spot could be better used.

I like Pryce's game and think, with a new coach who coaches D and rebounding better than Fran and expects it to be played, he is a solid Power 5 role player. Can shoot the 3 (38%) and can also shoot midrange and get to the rim when opponents close hard on him (48% overall), doesn't hunt shots like Payton, isn't a TO machine, and seems to be a hard worker and team player.

I hope Pryce finishes his career as a hawk. Won't mind seeing Brock stay as well, given that he's not getting starter minutes.

I stand by what I wrote. They are both Big players and to contend otherwise is ridiculous. Brock had 7 assists in the first half and Pryce scored 15 points. They were not the reason we lost, but keep your blind eyes wide open. The 2nd half was a complete coaching failure.

Fifty Fifty. At some point players need to be held accountable. Players need to rebound better, take better shots, don't turn the ball over & play just a little bit of defense. I've never seen a coach do any of these from the bench. Yes, Fran needs to have players better prepared. But players need to play better & smarter.

That 2nd half team would have gotten beat by a decent NAIA school. Horrible.

what was the complete coaching failure in the second half?

You think Iowa can finish in the Top of the Big 10 with players like Harding and Pryce getting a lot of minutes?

I get it, you want instant gratification, everyone does now, but Pryce and Harding were not recruited as 5 star recruits and Fran has never recruited a 5 star player in 15 years at Iowa, They are only sophomores and both have become better in their second year at Iowa, hard for you to understand the process isn't it.
If you want Iowa to become what you believe they should be, Fran has to be bought out and Beth has much work to do to hire the right coach to fulfill your desires. You understand that, right.....

Nah.

Maryland is one of the most talented teams in the Big Ten. The fact is that we are not anywhere near that talent level. That Maryland team went into Illinois and just embarrassed them, the beat UCLA by 18, crushed Ohio State, beat Wisconsin ....they're good. Winning there was always going to be a long shot.

We have some talent just not anywhere close to what the top teams have. The program needs an influx of money and new blood.

Dix seems to have an on/off switch this year. Not sure if it is his off-court family stuff is weighing on him, but there have been a few games, like last night, where it's like he isn't there.

Doubling down on bad takes is…….something!!

Perfect, let Beth get to work. There is a lot of loser talk in this post.

Also why are we whining about a small buyout with all this new TV revenue coming in?

Fran's substitution patterns are crazy. Benching Traore when he got 4 fouls was stupid, what good did he do on the bench? He was the only guy who could defend Queen. Instead we had Payton, our worst defender, trying to stop him man-to-man? Dembele playing more than Brauns and Tadjo combined? Payton playing 39 minutes!

I thought Bobby Hansen had an interesting half time comment, he said the Maryland starting 5 looked tired. They only go 5 deep, but we didn't press them in the 2nd half and we didn't do enough to push tempo. We got our lead in the first half after Maryland got tired. We should have pushed the issue in the 2nd half.

I don't think Pryce and Harding are the problem. Our problem is rebounding and interior defense. Payton and Dembele in particular. You might be able to hide one bad interior defender, but not two.

Do you watch our defense and in particular those two get abused over and over again on defense?
