Fall Camp 2024

This feels about the fourth season in a row where we think "the OL has to be better this time." Hopefully it finally comes true.
Agree....I just feel like the offensive line will benefit from Lester's direction. More motion....RPO holds creates seams and gaps if the QB reads the D properly....a solid running game will REALLY help the pass protection. Boy what a difference a top 50 offense would mean to this program while the Defense remains on fire. Also believe our WRs and TEs are going to see a bunch less of the ol' 5 yard out pattern and be using the entire field...including RBs out of the backfield.

Ok...putting the Kool-Aid away for now.

1. On defense, only concern (slight) is the DL. I think the first 4-6 are good. After that, a lot of question marks.
2. On ST, I have 2 concerns (one slight, the other moderate). Slight - Has Stevens recovered from his terrible last few weeks of the season? Moderate - Can Rhys be consistent from punt to punt? We know he has the leg, but can he consistently hit quality punts?
3. On offense, I have no concerns with RB, TE, or really QB (outside of health, but it's football....anyone can be injured at any time) now that we've gotten at least decently serviceable backups. The two concerns are with WR and OL, and with WR, it's really the outside guys. Slot seems to be in pretty capable (albeit inexperienced) hands in Kaleb, Wetjen, and even Washington. If nothing else, all 3 seems to be quick twitch, athletic guys. It's the guys on the outside I'm wondering about. Anderson, outside of the first game, didn't really show anything. Buie and Howard have no real game experience to speak of, and everyone else is extremely young. With OL, we really only have 1 tackle and like 6 guards. If Richman can stay healthy, I think the new schemes and improved passing game concepts will help the OL immensely and make up for an overall lack of talent. How much it helps remains to be seen.

Solve any punting issues by moving the ball and rarely having to punt at all. That's what a complementary offense does, and I'm confident/hopeful that Lester will prove that offense is winning. Punting is for show. Get those new T-shirts ready. :)

Stevens was outstanding in the Kids Day practice. I don’t think he missed a one.

Went about 3 pages and didn’t see anything so figured get this ball rolling as right around the corner.

Any freshman you feel will surprise and push for meaningful playing time?

Beside WR is kicking th biggest worry or OL?

Ill do a short list and provide thoughts/add what you feel
Is same or different from my views.

WR: I actually like Brown/Wetjen/Anderson and think this group will surprise/be adequate. I think Buie/Mora potentially see playing time/contribute.

QB: Not 100% sold on Cade but man I hope im wrong as a lot rides on him being the guy. Maybe Lester can make Sullivan Marco or Resar into system guys if Cade fails. Fingers crossed

OL: without details on every spot for some reason I feel this unit is a positive this season. Just think with the experience it cannot be worse. Blindly think it’s above average

RB: Williams, Patterson, Johnson, Moulton. Lots to like here and deep

ST: Steven’s will be solid I’m iffy on the new Punter Dakin but that’s just because Tory spoiled us so pessimistic me. Think good talent for returns and will be average but hoping for above.

DL: lots of depth but pressuring the QB is biggest concern. Hoping Allen is the guy to be the edge rusher. Overall strong and a strength but can they force the QB into early throws and bad decisions? I’m hopeful

TE: like all the guys in the room and hope Luke healthy all year as he’s a weapon

DB/Safety/Cash: The starting unit is good. Strong unit but I worry about depth if any injuries. But in Parker I trust so my worry level is low even with young replacements.

LB: Jackson Higgins Fisher when all 3 out as solid as you can ask for or 2 of the 3 when cash. Strong.

Thoughts and worries? Young guys you think will come in and surprise. I think WR and CB most likely to see any.

Hoping for a great season and minimal/no injuries in camp/season.

Great read and analysis- great stuff!
