Fant

Was talking about what a weapon Fant is with a Hawkeye friend of mine. He mentioned that a Husker friend of his told him Nebby didn't want him because of some "trouble" he got into in HS. I follow recruiting fairly closely and told him I thought his Husker buddy was just a lil butthurt over his choosing the Hawks. Was there some "trouble" in HS? I don't recall anything during his recruitment.

We all know braska only takes high character kids lol

Please make it a point to get him the damn ball
I haven't researched it so I could be wrong but I believe that Fant is top two in receiver targets through 2 games. He certainly is not being ignored.

That's funny because Nebraska was recruiting him pretty hard. Is that what they do when they don't want a guy?

This may be the case but I'm hopeful that we start "forcing" it to him a little more

Please make it a point to get him the damn ball! Too fast for LBers, too big for dbs. He's going to go down as one of our best ever and that says a lot!

Even when he doesn't get the ball he is doing his job. The entire WR corps plus Hock are benefiting from the work that he is doing. Iowa State made him a priority and it opened up a lot.

I liked this point because I agree. However i do think our coaches and play calling are doing this already.

I still would like to see him in the slot once in a while. Safety's and LB's would go nuts.

This is already happening. Pretty sure he was in the slot first play of the year and others of course. But hes been in the slot a bit.

We don't need to be forcing anyone the ball. Thats how you get turnovers. With MVB, Easley, ISM, Hock, Smith, Young, Wadley, and Butler besides Fant, we have plenty of targets. Stanley completed passes to 9 receivers Saturday, that needs to be the template for success. KF said this week that Cooper will see some action soon as well. Fant will get his.

I agree and maybe just didn't explain myself well.. Every time we have a must throw down, the whole time I'm thinking 87. Dude is gonna be a beast

I love that we're finally throwing balls to the RB's...that's been a very underutilized weapon.

TE targets through 3 games:

18 targets to Fant (7 receptions for 89 yards and 3 TDs)
7 targets to Hockenson (5 receptions for 70 yards and 1 TD)
1 target to Pekar (1 reception for 9 yard)

Fant's numbers would look a lot better if they would of been able to connect on a couple of those deep balls. Plus he's had a couple drops that will get worked out once he gets more comfortable. It will be exciting to watch him keep growing and become another in a long line of successful Iowa TE's

True, but I think Fant has some work to do on his hands or concentration or something. It looks like Hock is more natural catching the ball in traffic. What Fant has, is speed to burn for a guy his size. Hope he puts it all together. Wished we could have seen Beyer get some live action, but barring an injury, that may have to wait until next year.

If a few of those connected, he could be having 10 receptions for nearly 200 yards and 5 TDs.

Regardless, every indication is that Iowa is definitely trying to make use of its TEs!

I saw Beyer in at the end of the last game.
