Fargo Jrs

It was clear to me live and confirmed in replays that Aiden initiated that roll/somersault. I was confused when they scored it for Ruiz initially. I think they 100% got it right.

Fair enough. I am certainly no expert on freestyle scoring.

Initially, I thought Ruiz got screwed. Rewatched it and Riggins locked his arms behind the leg, picked it up and they rolled. Looked like Riggins tucked his shoulder for the roll but I can't say for sure. Tie goes to the offensive guy. In this instance, I don't know if it was enough to over turn the call which was 4 Ruiz.

Watch Riggins feet/legs…. He plants and jumps to take Ruiz over his back. Pretty damn savvy move from the position he was in. Awesome mat awareness. Ruiz was for sure pulling up on the lift, but Aiden countered it by locking his hands and beating Ruiz to the punch.

Hated to see either guy lose but I think Kolby has won Fargo before so nice to see the less heralded Hill get the win. Something he will never forget.

I really liked how all of our recruits wrestled other than Franklin who after watching him I think is gonna struggle a ton at the next level. Has no offense just a lot of pushing. Hope I’m wrong. On a good note Nate should be contending for a title immediately and block and riggins look like future AA’s. I also was impressed by Joel and hill who I had never seen wrestle before but looked like a real good athlete for a big guy

Other than a 5-1 match in the semis, he teched everyone before that. He is a load who will be tough in a folkstyle match....especially in the third period. He takes risks that are fun but sometimes don't pan out. I think he will be just fine.

A lot of credit goes to the Sebolt club because all of their wrestlers have a scoring mentality...even when they are up and can sit on a lead.

I think Franklin getting sold a bit short. He's never going to be slick, he's a blue collar effort type guy who works really hard.

Maybe that’s the problem his finals and semis were the only matches I got to see this tournament. All the other matches I’ve seen against high level competition though he has looked like he struggled to get to offense and had some slow feet. Hope you’re right though chief

There was a few years where your HS talent seemed to be down, leading to Hawk recruiting more out of state kids (wisely). Do you guys think this is just part of the cycle or has something changed in the HS landscape? The sebolt affect to an outsider seems to be big.

Yup...Fargo runner-up and meh lol. I will argue that his body lock to a throw is pretty sweet. Saw him do it a couple of times in this tourney.

Happy to see Riggins get the win. He has been kind of a hard luck guy in some bigger matches so having one go his way was nice.

There’s a big difference from being the runner up at Fargo at a weight like 120 compared to 220 where the number of high level guys aren’t nearly the same

I think wrestling clubs were something that you used to go to to get extra workouts in. Now, it's a lifestyle starting when they are young...much like Young Guns in PA, Dark Knight and now M2. High school coaches are fairly limited with how much off season work they can put in with their guys so I think there is a lot of teamwork going on between the H.S. and clubs.

Kolby will be an absolute LOAD at ‘97 and attacks will come much more easily there. He even managed to horse Hill a couple times in the final. Get him in the room and let’s see what he’s got 18 months or so…

This. Iowa was a little late to the club scene. The lack of high level training in the off-season was showing in the summer freestyle tournaments. Plus, I think these kids took Iowa not being an elite high school wrestling state personally.

I think folks are failing to recognize how undersized Kolby is at 220. He was clearly giving up a good bit of size to Hill. To his credit, Hill wrestled well and won himself a stop sign. That said, 6 of his 10 points wouldn’t have counted in folkstyle. Franklin was basically wrestling up a weight and still almost win the thing. I wouldn’t count him out as a factor at 197 just yet.

I think he is our guy to carry whatever load Kueter doesn't.

We need to try to do better. And yes I feel like a douche for saying that today, given he has a whale of a tourney. But that said it wasn’t exactly a star studded bracket and he beat an undersized Franklin in the finals. Would still feel better with a more highly ranked (and actual) HWT also in the fold.

Disclaimer: What the heck do I know? Despite the size difference I didn’t see him winning that final. Stay tough, Mr. Hill.

Franklin reminds me of Warner. Big, strong kid that everyone thinks maybe should spend more time in the weight room (just because he's not ripped) and who may not be the most athletic big guy but who has a gas tank. Maybe a little limited offensively but enough to get the job done. That's not intended as a knock on either Franklin or Warner.

I’m a little worried that he won’t be able to make 197. I’m concerned that he might be a tweener.

I realize he’s not a full sized 220, that was pretty evident against Hill, but I’m betting 197 isn’t going to be an easy cut. Especially as time moves on.

Not knocking Franklin in the least. But I was very impressed by Hill's ability and willingness to change levels and attack legs and, on occasion, to convert into takedowns. Don't see that every day in a 220 lber.

Warner use to score a lot in high school though. Got techs twice in the finals at Fargo had a major in the Ironman finals and I think teched Andrew Davison at the cliff keen all star dual.

Jersoga looks like a guy that can start as true freshman. I suppose Ayayla and him somehow at 26 and 33.
