I thought they go out for wrestling to wrestle. It is a prize to be gained. To me it doesn’t make much sense to allow graduated seniors to wrestle in this. Just imo

Why wouldn't a wrestler be allowed to wrestle in their designated age group? To me it doesn’t make much sense to allow graduated seniors to wrestle in this. Just imo
It's not a high school tournament. Age is really all that should matter. To me it doesn’t make much sense to allow graduated seniors to wrestle in this. Just imo
"Red-shirting" has been a problem in high school sports for a long time and there is not much you can do about it. My high school conference was dominated by a school that had at least three red shirts. I seem to remember that back in the day once someone turned 20 they were no longer eligible to participate. Not sure if that is still a rule now or not. There's some 16U kid's who are almost 16 heading into their Freshman season's. Iowa's 16U 88 pound champ is heading into 8th grade and will be 15 in the fall. Massive amount of "redshirting" going on out there. Have you seen how old Chittum is? He'll turn 20 in the spring.
What? Don’t tell me there were 20 year olds still in high school?"Red-shirting" has been a problem in high school sports for a long time and there is not much you can do about it. There are no disadvantages to having your kid be as old as possible for their grade. More advanced physically, mentally, and emotionally. Why wouldn't you hold them back? I know I will be holding my kids back as long as possible. It’s based on age. So what’s the problem?
I never understood why there was so much angst about this. In today’s world it isn’t uncommon to be a year older than your grade level as athletic reasons aren’t the main motivator for it these days. It’s a more common thing than 30 years ago.
It's why you occasionally see some kids that were absolutely dominant in high school and struggle in college."Red-shirting" has been a problem in high school sports for a long time and there is not much you can do about it. That and early growth spurts. It's why I don't rely on "stars" when many fans are all hung up on it. Being physically dominant often means you don't have to rely on technique as much. Sooner or later it catches up to you. It's why you occasionally see some kids that were absolutely dominant in high school and struggle in college.
