Farniok commits to Nebraska

That's ok, he was not that good and we did not really want him anyway. Sort of just a pity offer was what is was really. We felt bad for him. Glad he found a program more suitable for a player of his lower skill level.
I lived in South Dakota for awhile - and Sioux Falls might as well be Lincoln. You see Husker gear and flags everywhere. There's some Hawks don't get me wrong - but just a lot more attachment to the Bugs. Thats tough to overcome for a kid that grew up around it and is just a teenager. In the states that don't have major D1 programs (South Dakota - North Dakota) the kids/fans will attach themselves to the closest big time programs. Same thing with the Vikings - everyone in South Dakota is a Viking fan. And the Nebraska people are Chiefs fans. Iowa can take their pick between the Vikings, Chiefs,, Bears and the Pack.
It would have been nice to have him - Doyle could of chiseled him up.
He did have two older brothers offered by Nebraska but went elsewhere ya know. So the Nebraska flags didn't persuade them to go there. It was more about how Coach Riley out recruited Ferentz.

Why all the good lucks? Kid didn't want to be a hawk so why should we care? I don't wish him ill or well.

Not really surprised by this at all as that is where I thought he would end up. Seemed to have a connection with them from the start.

Like others posted, after seeing him play against better competition not entirely heartbroken here. Dude has some size and strength but is obviously 2-3 years away from being a really good CFB player. Just lacks a lot of pure athleticism especially on the edge if he is going to play OT.

Nebraska has had nine Outland Trophy winners sense 1970. Six of those where offensive lineman. Give me a break.

No offens, but how is that relevant? Different systems, different eras, different coaching staffs developing the talent, etc. I think most in IA raise it as a valid point, given Ferentz has proven time and time again, he can develop high level NFL OL talent, which is specific to our current system, staff, schemes, strength program, etc

Fact if the matter is you aren't looking at fact as a recruit if you choose to go play oline at Nebraska over Iowa. Tells me he's not serious about pursuing football past the collegiate level, plain and simple. You start at tackle at Iowa, you play in the NFL, plain and simple. Riley is not gonna prepare olinemen for the next level. As far as you stupid husker fans, love how you idiots still run your mouths. Your program is an average big ten program trending down with Riley. Adding Farniok will do nothing to change that.

This is true. Iowa has done a great job with the OL under Ferentz, while Nebraska has fallen off a cliff when compared to historic results with the OL. It's not even remotely close. Nebraska has more than 2x as many Outland Trophy winners as the #2 school, Oklahoma. And majority of that were OL. Now? Pffft.

But I am seeing an increase in talent on the OL. Callahan was ok with OL recruiting with Pelini being the worst I've ever seen at recruiting the group at N, especially when he first came - it was pitiful. Riley has done well in short time. We'll see how it all pans out, but on paper....it's increasing. Gates, Foster, Farmer, Barnett, Decker, Raridon, Wilson, Brokop, Farniok....that's solid young talent.

In the end, Iowa & Nebraska will probably take a split with Farniok and Alaric Jackson. NBD

I've never been sold on Matt. I saw him play twice this year and he didn't stand out like I thought he should considering the offers. He is a big kid but his strength isn't what I think it should be for his size. He's also quite a bit smaller than his brother but that's understandable. That being said if Iowa wanted him I wanted him.

I ran into him at the gym last night around 5:20. I told him he will look good in black and gold next year and he chuckled. Then I said I was looking forward to watching him play in Iowa City and he said "it's a cool place". That was the extent of it. He was at the gym with his older brother that plays at Oklahoma. Most of their time there they were doing some light lifting, stretching and on their phones. He definitely didn't come across as a workout warrior but he could have been done when I saw him.

Someone should have thrown him a cape and one of those matador hats in that all star game a few weeks ago...he did some serious ole' blocks in that game. Wish him well. They have the vaunted black shirts over there...and they are improving. They didn't let any running back rush for over 400 yard in a game this season...unlike the season before. Riley made progress and they only lost 7 games.

Do you mean since?
Nebby - running the read option on the field and in the classroom.

That was a BRILLIANT retort! You outsmarted some poor schmuck's AutoCorrect!

You should be proud, sir. Or madam!

Sorry for the snark. Well, sort of. I hate grammer poelease. Annoys me to know end, especially when the meaning is crystal clear and someone calls out an obvious AutoCorrection.

Nothing says blueblood like 6-7.
Let's go 4-0 vs Bugeaters and have multiple linemen drafted ahead of Fartkneenock and Raredung

Iowa is 9-0 since 2014 against Nebraska in combined men's sports (of meaning).

Football
Basketball
Baseball

The last OL Outland winner from Nebby was 1997, before any of these players were even conceived...serious get the F out of the 90's bro. Since 1997 Nebby has 0 OL win the Outland winners Iowa has had 2
Granted they had a DL win it in Suh, but as far as OL not so much.
Furthermore, doesn't matter what OL you get because they will be dropping back in pass pro 40+ times a game

I'll take the left tackle from dowling over raridon every day of the week.

Can some of you people understand why those of us who have to live around these insufferable pricks from Nebraska hate them so much? Arrogant pretentious a-holes who never shut up even when you kick their ass!

And in the last 15 years Nebraska has had less Outland winners than Iowa. Zero offensive linemen.

EDIT: To put things in perspective, Minnesota has had more Outland winning OL than Debby has in that time frame.

Good luck to him. Life continues on and the kid made the right choice for HIM ... and in the end ... that's all that matters.

So what you are saying is...you don't need olineman if you want to pass the ball? Makes sense.

With that thought process, the top rated WR prospects should come to Nebraska every year.

Won't matter for Tommy, he'll throw it to the other team anyway.

Maybe. But Tommy will be a senior next year and was not recruited by Riley. At Oregon St Riley put QB's in the league...I can only assume he will do the same at Nebraska. Thus, recruiting lineman still might be a good idea.

Riley is a mediocre coach. He's been mediocre everywhere he's ever coached and Oregon State was happy to see him leave. You folks think he's the answer in Lincoln and you're gonna find out that he brought mediocre to Lincoln with him.

I take it you stood behind him after the Illinois loss, or Purdue loss, yeah?

Some Nebraska fans wanted a mid-season firing, were you one of them?

I was pissed...yeah, and have no idea if he will ever lead Nebraska to anything. Hell, a good majority of the Iowa fanbase wanted Ferentz gone not all that long ago. What does that have to do with Nebraska still needing quality lineman even if they want to pass the ball?

You brought up Riley, and QB's and league and blah blah blah.

What does that have to do with lineman?

Actually, you brought up QB's with your reference to Armstrong. I responded back to you. Pretty simple really...Riley has shown he can develop NFL caliber QB's in the past. Despite what Broth wants you to believe, it's still a good idea to stack up good lineman prospects if you want to keep your QB healthy....even if a particular staff wants to throw the ball. Lineman are still needed for a successful passing game.

Doubt it was Autocorrect.
I'm guessing typical Nebby tard with bad green teeth and about 310lbs.
Saw a lot of them the last few seasons.

What I am saying is not a single OL worth a damn wants to drop back 40+ times a game and then chase down a DB 5 times a game in an attempt to tackle him because the QB throws the ball to the other team. OL like to get down hill and dominate the person in front of him.....does that make sense?

Didn't Riley Reiff come from SD?
I would also say the two are comparable at this point, only differnec is Reiff became a 1st round draft pick because of his development in college....doubt Farniok (Sp?) gets that at Nebby and doubt he becomes a 1st round draft pick

Nebraska doesn't....and won't throw on average 40+ a game. Nor will Farniok have to be chasing down DB's as Nebraska has a dam good QB prospect coming in. You act as if Nebraska doesn't run the ball.....or that Riley has never ran the ball.

RReiff wasn't much like MFarniok in high school. Reiff was a stud on the wrestling matt, he was a workhorse.

Think he would have been a good fit. We missed out. But so did he. Chances of making the NFL are much greater under Ferentz than Riley. Hope we get Jackson. He's a very good athlete!!

How many of those did Riley or the current team win? It's amazing what a win in an undeserved bowl game can do for the arrogance of Big Red.

Place bets on what year they'll finally stop showing this picture?

I'll go with after the 2037 season, it will have been 40 years (since 20 years isn't that long ago, ya know)
