Farniok commits to Nebraska

I kinda feel sorry for Nebraska fans. I really do. The last time they were relevant in football was almost 20 years ago...when recruits and even some college players weren't even born yet.

By the way, shouldn't there be one of those red 1990's Starter coats in that trophy case too? Maybe next year you could buy one for it from one of the thousands of Nebraska fans who still wear them.
Ok...

Are we not 3-2 vs ya'll since joining the BIG?
Do we not have a better recruiting class than ya'll even after your best season?
and Raridon...

I never realized there was an apostrophe in the word "ya'll". Thank you for the lesson.

Also, predictable thread is predictable lol. How can folks get so worked up about where a 17-18 year old kid decides to go to school?

Hey Husker fans leave the Kawkeyes alone. Let them swim in there recent glory. They shot their wad this year except they went limp in the bowl game. How embarrassing and they still a act like they are important. Collin was right, nothing but pretenders who were curb stomped in the bowl game. The announcers referred to them a a junior high team. Other fan bases laugh at them as they are proud of being there but we're made to look like fools. They will choke next year and the fire Ferentz chants will start. The basketball team will sputter and choke in the tourney. Really though, enjoy this Kawkeyes it won't happen again.

That's ok, he was not that good and we did not really want him anyway. Sort of just a pity offer was what is was really. We felt bad for him. Glad he found a program more suitable for a player of his lower skill level.
What?

Doubt it was Autocorrect.
I'm guessing typical Nebby tard with bad green teeth and about 310lbs.
Saw a lot of them the last few seasons.

Wow, losing a recruit really gets to you. I'd hate to see what your household was like after the Rose Bowl. Lighten up..

UNL has a better recruiting class on paper almost every year but certainly not elite like you think your program is. Apparently not good enough to finish in the top 10 this century. Congrats on getting a legacy. He will really be disappointed when he figures out how lousy the coaching staff is. What happened to dominating the BIG. "Restore the Order"

This really only hurts if Iowa doesn't land Jackson. KF really needs an OT in this class. I like Jackson's frame for an OT more than I did Farniok's but Farniok was rated higher as a prospect so I guess we will see how it pans out.
I'm sure he'll continue being told how great he is by Nebraska and will enjoy himself. It's great to have supporters.
But also as a OL, IMO, having an opportunity to be coached by the Ferentz', conditioned by Doyle, enjoying the new football faciities...... IMO, he'll miss out on some unique challenges, experiences and opportunities (like his brothers apparently did)......to develop, which he certainly needs at this stage of his life.
Good luck to him. Iowa football will survive without him, he will survive without Iowa football.

I'm just responding to the negative posts...I did not come in here bashing...

i don't think i will either...scary over here...
I wouldn't say this thread is representative of the site as a whole. There are some great posters here. There are also a lot of......um.......not so great posters here:cool:.

Overal though, not enough traffic on the football board to really keep a guy entertained on a slow day, which is why I found myself on the recruiting board after the Off Topic section here became a premium board

Pretentious arrogant pricks. That's all Nebraska fans are. And like I said, they're too stupid to shut up when they get their asses kicked. The worst thing the B1G did was let them in our conference. They act like Ohio State but perform like every other middle of the road team in the conference.

Nebraska is looking at another year next year where they may struggle to make a bowl game.

Fant was the guy we REALLY wanted. He is much more talented and with his extremely high skill level will fit in well with our program a the leader in the B1G West.

So much hate...

I don't mind Iowa. I root for all the Big West teams...

Now - the BIG East teams...no thank you...

Ferentz is legit...he turns 3star talent into NFL caliber players. Hope Neb-Iowa turns into a rivalry...from the hate on this board I can see it happening

How pathetic do you sound, you are now trying to justify your program with winning mythical recruiting rankings and recruiting battles. So you are getting Raridon whos father played for Nebby, so that was pretty much set in stone. Granted he is good and our #1 ranked recruit in state (according to sources) but we have Nebby's #1 ranked recruit and you couldn't even get your #2 ranked recruit he is heading to ASU. Iowa got all 5 instate kids that we offered....Nebby got one. None the less, you are defending your program with recruiting rankings LOL. Iowa is always between 30 and 40 rank but yet is always in top 10 in producing NFL talent

My best friend is a Nebby fan, he is pretty realistic so we get along. We both admit that there is not a whole lot that separates the two programs and we both admit that in recent history Iowa has the slight edge and obviously overall program history Nebby has the edge. we also both agree that it is better to be better now than 20+ years ago.

Although I would have loved to Farniok, Jackson actually has better upside at OT which is what we needed more. Farniok and Jackson were pretty much the same as far as rating and offers, Jackson just has a better frame for OT. I was scared Nebby was going to get Raridon, Jackson, Farniok all in the same class and that would be impressive. That being said, unless Reilly gets his head out of his butt and keeps passing it 40+ times it really doesn't matter who they bring in at OL

Nebraska doesn't pass the ball 40+times a game......and even so, anyone with half a brain realizes you still need good lineman to have a strong passing game.

We beat you, didn't we.....
But I guess that doesn't mean much when you couldn't even beat illinois or purdue!
Yes we lost our real bowl and you won your pity bowl. Getting to 6 wins is quite the accomplishment. Congrats....I guess.
Wasn't your football season pitiful enough...do you really want to talk bball too? LMAO

Nebraska has a QB coming in who is rated in the top 200 of this years class. Unless you are saying you expect Farniok to start as a freshman? Do you really think he is that good? I mean he must be considering Ferentz spent so much time recruiting him.

What does any of that have to do with my post?
Obviously not worth responding to you.
Good luck next year...clearly you need it!

Pretty simple really.....we will have a QB throwing more TD's than balls to the other team. Thus, it's probably a good idea that Nebraska continues to recruit damn good oline prospects. Derp

So you are under the assumption that 1. You don't need good lineman to pass the ball <<---lol And 2. Armstrong is the best QB Riley will have in his tenure?? Hmmmmm mmmkay, now that's Hawkeye logic but I will say doubtful considering Riley was able to develop and put QB's in the NFL during his time at Oregon St. Me thinks he can do it again at Nebraska. Locking up a top QB recruit and in the lead for the top QB in Cali for next years class is a good start!

They are pretty much rated the same and both had 18 total offers and both had some impressive offers.....not sure why that is funny????

Nope...not really

Farniok is rated a high 3 star by rivals and a 4 star on 247...in fact, 247 rates him 371 spots HIGHER than Jackson. I repeat...371 spots HIGHER. According to rivals...Jackson is closer to being a 2 star than he is a 4 star.

As far as the offers..outside of his top 3 schools Jackson's next best set of offers were from the likes of Kansas, Illinois, Cinci....Farniok? It was the likes of Florida ST, Stanford, OU, Florida.........yeah, big difference.

Nebraska sucks. They hired a mediocre coach and their program well remain mediocre under him regardless of O'Brien coming in. You idiots have yet to figure out big ten football, which was supposed to be so much easier to dominate than the big xii when you came in. You're not built for big ten football and you're gonna continue to get your asses beat because of it.

I would put Wisconsin as a next best offer for Jackson, but yes I would say Farniok has a higher rating and slightly better offers...that I will say you are correct. Both had Nebby, Iowa, MSU, offers not that any of that matters....we will see where the two are in 4-5 years, you know when it actually matters. I will continue to produce double the amount of all-americans, twice as many NFL players (3 times the amount on the OL), 3 times as many top ten finishes, twice as many conference championships, 3 times more "bcs" level bowl games, 3 times more national award winners, should I even go on???? These are all facts in the 2000's, you can google it all if you would like (might find a slight error but I am pretty confident these numbers are pretty darn close

Here are factual numbers from 2000 (you know recent history):
Top 10 Finishes- Nebby 2 (8th in 01 and 02 so like 15 years ago LOL) Iowa 5
National award winners- Nebby 3 (01 and 02 15 years ago LOL) Iowa 9 (most recent this year)
National Coach of the year awards- Nebby negative 2 and Iowa 3 (Again this year)
All Americans- Nebby 13 (6 of those once again 15 years ago) Iowa 20

This years results:
Baseball- Iowa takes series from Nebby and finishes higher in the big ten
Football- Iowa West Champions 12-2 and Nebby 6-7 LOL
Basketball- Not even close
Wrestling- Not even close
These are facts and not just blind emotional comments, I do not expect much of a rebuttal considering you (like your other buddy) do not have anything to back your claims that do not involve the 90's..

Good stuff, thanks for pulling it together and sharing. Congratulations on a great season!

I came across some additional recent history for you to add:

Since Nebraska joined the BIG their record: 43-23, 25-16 in conference. Iowa 38-27, 23-18 in conference. Interestingly in our match ups neither of us win at home except for our first meeting as conference foes. I think we are much closer as a program than many of my "Starter jacket" wearing brothers care to admit (not last seasons record!). I am a frequent lurker on your board as I like to try and keep up with what you have going on as I live in Iowa and have many Hawkeye friends.

I have read several posters thoughts that Nebraska hired a loser for a coach and that he won't have success at Nebraska. A couple of my Hawkeye friends told me Nebraska hired "Kirk Ferentz" when the announcement was made. Interestingly Ferentz is 139-108 (.563), 6-7 in bowls, with six 9 win or better seasons in his 20 seasons as a college head coach. Riley is 99-87 (.532), 7-2 in bowls, with four 9 win or better seasons in his 15 seasons as a college head coach. Pretty similar results and Riley seems to get his teams ready for bowl games!

I am very impressed with Riley's first recruiting class following the record he had in his first season! I can't imagine the Hawkeyes won't be the favorite in the West next season with a healthy Beathard. Hopefully the Nebraska -vs- Iowa game each "Black Friday" determines the West representative!

It is a stretch to conclude that Riley is necessarily better coach based upon bowl games. The Insight Bowl win over Notre Dame is likely the best of the resume that includes a Hawaii Bowl, two Las Vegas Bowls, an Emerald Bowl, two Sun Bowls, an Alamo Bowl and this year's Foster Farms Bowl. Not exactly a list of major college bowl games played in January.
