I think it's just a level of frustration for some fans. They've had enough. But you're right, the staff isn't going anywhere. They're here until at least 2025. Complaining about the team and the coaching is okay as a means to vent, but even if every poster on here wanted Ferentz fired it wouldn't do a thing to change the regime. They can't even contribute for a buyout because Barta doesn't want to buy out Ferentz's contract. He wants him at Iowa.
What we need are two football forums, one for people who support Ferentz and one for people who want to see better football. It would solve all of these problems. Moderators on the Ferentz Board could delete all negative posts while moderators on the Better Football Board could delete all the pro-Ferenct posts. People want a place to pile on and others want a place to celebrate Ferentz's tenure. Maybe a third board for objective analysis but there'd only be four posters on that board so I'm not sure it's worth it.
The NFL is set up as a for-profit business. College football isn't (technically). What I mean is, universities can lose financial support from donors if they do the wrong thing. A person needs to be a large donor to have a say in which coach stays or goes and most of the long-tenured coaches are exceptional in fostering and maintaining relationships with donors (boosters). If Ferentz could coach and recruit as well as he fosters relationships with donors and university allies, Iowa would probably have at least one national championship under its belt right now. lol
You're assuming that "better football" would be the result of having a different coach. Now, I'm not saying that wouldn't happen, but there's no way you can guarantee me it would happen, either.
I personally refuse to apply a level of entertainment as a pre-requisite to whether I want the coach to still be here or not regardless of record. I've said it many times here...I would be gloriously happy if Iowa won 12 games by the score of 3-0.
If Iowa was 6-4, with the average score being 41-38 - no matter what, 6-4 is still what Iowa is. What difference does it make if it's a high scoring team or a low scoring team?
And if there is one thing I can say with an absolute certainty, if Iowa was indeed 6-4 with an average score of 41-38, people here would still be just as pissed off as they are today. And I'd also bet that the very same people who are pissed off at the offense after last Saturday would be just as pissed off at the defense in my "what if" here.
Iowa lost, shit happens. What's utterly ridiculous about all this is when it gets right down to it, most of this entire board before the season started predicted Iowa losing to both OSU and UW, with a small portion thinking Iowa would win at least one of those games.
So (shrugs shoulders, bewildered why people are pissed off when the most likely best case scenario actually happened)...
And fyi...I'm just as pissed off at the offense last weekend as everybody else, I just don't delude myself into thinking I know better than the coaches about what it takes to win a football game. And I damn well don't delude myself into believing that a more entertaining style of play at Iowa automatically translates to more wins.
