Finally...Bibi is being called out...

War sucks, but Israel didn’t start this battle….and they have to finish it to ensure it doesn’t occur again.
Here’s where I struggle…what does “finish it” mean in this context? SB SB says Palestinians = Hamas. He’s not alone in that thinking. Are we talking killing everyone? Clearly that’s not what Israel has in mind, but at what point is it “finished”?

We spent twenty years in Afghanistan. Nothing much changed. And we have the benefit of distance. Gaza isn’t going anywhere, and neither is Israel. I just don’t know what Israel’s plans are for the future and believe they are likely making a bad situation much worse.

It’s a difficult situation and it’s crazy people post like it’s straightforward.

I'll answer the question since you mentioned me. "finish it" means getting rid of hamas and trying to get a different government in place (elected by the palestinians) and see if that new government can not be a band of terrorists. If they are terrorists then that's on the palestinian people. Someone has to do something because continuing with hamas is not going anywhere and will not go anywhere in the future.

How is that different from what we tried to do with Afghanistan and the Taliban?

It might not be if the new government becomes terrorists as well. But something has to be done if people want Gaza to be it's own state. What you're proposing is to do nothing and everyone keep dealing with hamas in the same way as the last 15 years. If the palestinians truly want to separate themselves from hamas (I'm not convinced they do) then hamas has to be removed and then the palestinians will be forced to show they're not terrorists like hamas. I hope they prove me wrong and they truly can be civilized people and good neighbors. Doing more of the same isn't the answer at this point.

You might be right, but I suspect the average palestinian does not like what is going on. They are not in a place of making change due to the fact that Iran and Bibi's request to fund Hamas, makes the radicals have the guns.

I see free Palestine stuff coming from all over the left. Yet, Palestine elected Hamas…

Am I against innocent people dying? Yes, absolutely…but much like in Germany in WWII there are unfortunately innocent civilians who get caught up in the war against evil. War sucks, but Israel didn’t start this battle….and they have to finish it to ensure it doesn’t occur again.
Fringe idiots not anything institutionally left. See your President and his takes.

I mean I met plenty of shiites and sunnis that were good people. But they are still fighting about something that happened over a 1000 years ago
Ditto, Battle. Drove through and stayed in the entire country and all 3 of the sects. Sunni, Shiite and Kurdistan territory.

I never had the opportunity to go up to Kurd country. Other folks in my BTN did. It was hilarious when then sent pictures of snow. Looked so peaceful up there. Never got north of Baalad. Spent most of deployment in Baghdad.

Israel is trying to get rid of hamas, that's a good thing. Everyone is asking for a 2 State solution. How can anyone think that will work without Israel (or the UN) initially policing Gaza. Someone has to watch over Gaza to keep the terrorists from taking over. At that point we'll find out if there's enough good Palestinians to be able to control Gaza, but I doubt it will stay terrorist free without outside policing.

I saw Mosul before its destruction. Driving through and staying in Tikrit was a bit nerve wracking on the way up there. Mosul was beautiful and the climate and vegetation a refreshing change of pace. I was in Baalad before it was even secure:) maybe 100 of us and had to take turns for over night guard duty.

Glad you saw it before ISIS destroyed it. We handled comms up there as well. Everyone that went up there said it was great compared to Baghdad. We had folks in Tikrit as well, and our comms were part Hussein capture

The OP said he doesn't support the Israeli government. That's more than just Bibi.
Okay. I just think you are reading too much in to some of these comments. Bibi is the head of the government. I don't believe anyone has stated that they support Hamas. At least I hope not.

I'm reading to much into it? How about WDSMHAWK and Chrishawk who want to cut off funding to Israel. They have this weird obsession with wanting to arrest Bibi and put him in jail.

I don't agree with that but does it have to do with Bibi or the war? I just think it's not a black and white issue for many. I think there is the possibility of hating Hamas and the previous actions of some of those in power in Israel. I prefer to get rid of Hamas then deal with Bibi after but I am not everyone.

Are you saying you took part in the Iraqi war?

Yes you are way off the entire time in this thread. And assuming way too much again. We have you on record for being an adamant supporter of Bibbi, period. I can assume nonsense too.

I don't like Bibi either but I'm not letting that impact my thoughts on what Israel needs to do. I agree with you that hamas needs to go first. Then let the Israeli people decide what to do with Bibi. Some people have so much hate for Bibi that they just can't be on the side of Israel.

Yes, I was deployed

First thank you for your service. But I'm really puzzled with that. You were part of an invasion of another country and yet you're critical of the Israel for defending itself. I'm guessing you must feel bad about being part of a takeover of another country.

I've never once defended Bibi. I'm defending Israel and their right to defend themselves against terrorists.

I went to Basic Training planning on going to Afghanistan. I finished finding out that we were going to Iraq. Soldiers don't get to pick and choose where they are deployed. You must be new here. I've made my sentiments about the Iraq war known.

So you were ok with invading Afghanistan? Sounds like you need to look in the mirror before criticizing others.

Quit being a douchebag. I joined after 9/11. What have you done to serve your country?

Why did you feel the need to join after 9/11? Did you want to eliminate the terrorists? What was your reasoning for wanting to invade Afghanistan? You certainly had strong enough feeling that you enlisted after 9/11, which I give you a ton of credit for, like I said, thanks for your service. What I don't understand is that you don't seem to understand why Israel is doing what they're doing. It's exactly the same thing, in fact Israel has more of a reason to invade Gaza as there are hostages and the government of Gaza attacked Israel. The government of Afghanistan did not attack us.

Yep I have weird obsession with stopping the guy attempting to start a genocide. Didn't know that was such a hot take.

You do know that hamas is trying to start genocide of Jews. Sounds to me like you're wanting to be part of the genocide. How's it feel to be supporting terrorists.

"Clearly that's not what Israel has in mind"? Clearing that IS what they have in mind. Palestinians have lived under oppression for decades, and Bibi and other Israeli officials have clled for "thinning out the population" and then moving the rest to Egypt.

It's as bad as what it looks. Ethnic cleansing. Geonocide. Whatever you want to call it.

1.) I've repeatedly called for Hamas to be removed. So I don't know why you think I'm on their side.

2.) You openly support this, so you are no better than those people that cheered on the October 7th attacks.

LOL. How is this genocide supposed to start? That's like saying Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto were trying to commit genocide against the Nazis.

Fair enough. It could be you’re right. I can’t imagine that’s the case, but maybe.
