Gulibon #1... I don't agree. I read the reasoning... but those wins were at 133.

REAL opportunity for Grothus here...

Flo - 141

This is the weakest weight I can remember in a long time. I think Grothus has a real shot at being a champ here, and if Iowa is going to have a chance to win it all, they will need him to finish high on the podium.

Absolute JOKE!!!! No way does Guililbon deserve #1. He could end up there but to start the year off HELL NO!!! Love affair with Bael is all it is....

My thoughts exactly. If Brody can hold the weight, this is a massive opportunity for him to go out on top.

No one at this weight scares me...even if Stieber or Henderson move down. As long as the weight cut goes smoothly I really like Grothus here.

No it's just the weakest weight this year. Who do you think deserves to be at the top? It's pretty hard to justify anyone else imo. If I was Brewer I would look at 141 and wonder why even bother cutting to 33?

I'd probably rank Heil #1, he's the highest returning AA at 141 or Hayes, he's a BIG 141.

These are my two thoughts as well. Who else would you put at #1 and why in the world would Brewer not wrestle 141 this season. There are 5-6 really good wrestlers at 133 and a few OK guys at 141.

There will be a lot of changes in this weight and it will happen early. Every weight is tough at this level but this is one of the least talented this year.

Maybe Clark should bump up and Brody go to 33.

lol.. I actually agree with you guys. I do love Guilibon at 141 and think in the end he will work his way up. But to start the season I agree Heil should be 1

Now be careful with the Clark to 141 comments. Clark was a guy who could suck down to 125 wrestling 133. Guilibon is a guy who could suck down to 133 wrestling 141. You could argue Clark is Slightly better than Guilibon at 133 after Guilibon makes that tough cut.......I bet Guilibon beats Clark 2 out of 3 times at 141. That Cut can take strength out of you.

You can argue who deserves to be there but at the end of the year it will work itself out and for the most part they will "earn" their way to (for the most part) the seed they deserve.

Happy to see Jimmy getting some respect but in the end whatever the gurus put up there today mean nothing!

I am looking forward to the season to take all the weight shifts to task. I will say that Jimmy has been hitting the weights heavy and looked heavier at the NLWC golf outing. I'd much rather see uperclassmen moving up rather than sucking every last ounce out of their bodies.

I thought I saw a post here sometime ago that Brody is 5'10". Pretty scary to a kid that tall at 141 both that it would scare the hell out of opponents who have to wrestle him and for his overall health.

Glad you are so worried about Brody's health. A person's height is not the whole story. I always thought Brody had a pretty narrow and slight frame for 149. Was always impressed when he did horse guys at 149. You should be worried about him making 141 but not for his health.

It's pretty tough to imagine Jimmy G winning this weight no matter how weak it is. Is Mayes for sure staying down at 41? There were rumblings of 149. Heil really developed toward the end of last year so I think he would easily by my #1 pick. Grothus definitely has a heck of an opportunity here.

I was 5'10 in high school and cut to
140 from 160 and didn't have near the education and resources that Grothus has. Our 135 pounder was taller than me.

He is making the cut starting months out..he should be fine. Also, I heard that he didn't have much of a cut to
149.

And FLO has now succeeded in creating discussion for themselves. JG is not going to be wrestling on Saturday nite at any weight, at least this season.

Exactly Mitch. Most everything Flo does is based on eye balls, ads and clicks. They aren't into charitable or non profit events.

I could care less about any rankings at this point. What are they good for?? Absolutely Nothing!

MitchL nailed it...of course Jimmy isn't #1 at a class he's never wrestled. If he was a defending national champ at a lower weight and moved up and was #1 I'd understand. This is a marketing job by CP and FLO - any suggestions to the contrary is nuts. I will say this about CP and FLO...nicely done. Everyone is talking about 141 which doesn't have a lot of household names. Could you imagine the national uproar if CP put Brody #1...now thats creating a buzz!

There will be a guy or two that will likely separate themselves, but this is one of the weaker weights I have seen in recent memory. A lot of opportunity to get on the podium for whomever we send out.

133 was pretty similar last season. It had Schopp and Beckman as the two top returning AAs and Schopp was viewed as the head guy, but not unbeatable. Then there was Brewer (and people didn't give him any respect until the NCAAs), Clark and Hall were two AAs bumping.

My point is 133 didn't look all that tough last year after the top three guys graduated (Ramos, Graff, and Colon), but then all of the sudden it was viewed as a really deep weight to end the season.

Everyone is moving up or down to duck Brody.
As tall as Brody is, it would be pretty easy to duck him. Up and down is a good set up, but a little side to side can work wonders for setting up a duck.

Speaking of ducks, I heard that some guy at the worlds tried to moose Metcalf around. We all know what the real message Metcalf is sending with his moose photo. I predict no one will try to moose him around at the olympics.

2 guys I could see moving up at 141 are McKenna and Ashnault. IMO both are way to low.

Zacherl also had a good summer.

149 is up.
1. Tsirtsis
2. Retherford
3. Sorensen

http://www.flowrestling.org/rankings/college/weight/149

Lucky for TShirt he has won a title or he'd be ranked #2. So let's recap, Zain finishes 5th at 141 in 2013, took a year off and is now ranked #2 at a higher weight while the guy who actually finished 4th the year before at the higher weight is ranked third. Guilbon, who at best would be ranked third at 133, is now ranked #1 at 141 ahead of All Americans like Dean "Da Furor" Heil (4th), Jack, Mayes, and Ashnault. But Jimmy's been in the gym throwing the weights around so it's cool.

Y'all know I am not into the conspiracy theories when it comes to Flo's supposed love affair with PSU but this definitely makes a bro wonder. Both Zain and Jimmy are fine wrestlers, no doubt, but in the immortal words of Cris Carter...C'MON MAN!

I can see Zain being ranked number 2 based on he just is so impressive.

Jimmy on the other hand is good, but he has not shown me that he is capable of winning a title. They are either in love with PSU or they just want to get the hawks fan base riled up. I guess it is possible that they are just drawing names randomly out of a hat. A lot of people should be above Gulibon at 141. Any rational person would agree with that.

It will be fun to see where Sorenson ends up when the smoke clears.

Sorensen had a similar career start to Derek St. John, Big Ten Runner up, 4th Place at NCAAs. I'm hoping he has a similar SO, JR years (without injury) and a stronger SR year finish. I Hope to see Sorensen in the next 3 149 lb NCAA finals, it will be tough Retherford will be there the next 3 seasons, Tsirtsis the next 2 seasons, but I believe Brandon can take it up to an even higher level than he showed, and what he showed was pretty impressive in its own right.

I hope Flo has Meyer at #1 @ 174 since he had a few wins over ranked guys last year....
