Slavery is a historical fact in America - as it is elsewhere. No need to dumb down the curriculum or throw in a benchmark clarification that suggests “hey…there were some benefits for some!”
I agree that the particular standard in question “whitewashes” history and should not be in the curriculum. There are over 191 standards written by African Americans. That part of the story keeps getting left out. I wonder why?
Also take a look at what is in the AP African American standards that the WH defended when DeSantis was on his early “woke” crusade. Lol it’s the same thing in the new standards. The liberal educators who wrote the standards must be “pro slavery” too.
