Florida to Feds: Allow cruise ships to sail or we'll sue....

Well I know for a fact that that is one of the things NCL has proposed. 100% of staff and 95% of passengers vaccinated. Sounds very reasonable to me.

I also don’t think Desantis’ opposition to vaccine passports includes opposition to cruises requiring vaccination. But link me to an article claiming otherwise and I’ll read it.
Here you go.

NCL disagrees with you about Desantis’ opposition including cruise ships. It’s the literal reason they are threatening to move them.

Again: if they require fully vaccinated passengers, then most of those requirements go away.

If Desantis wants unvaccinated passengers, those regs may remain in place.

Those are two distinct issues.

CDC says even if 100% of passengers are vaccinated, they all have to wear masks at all time.

DeSantis refuses to allow vaccine passports, so even if the CDC comes to their senses, cruise lines still won’t be able to operate out of Florida.

Because both sides have been irrational from the start.

I am pretty sure a lot of people find a cruise job more appealing than working at a nursing home.

You sleep in your own bed every night if you work in the nursing home.

Believe me.... living onboard a ship gets real old real fast.

He will have to come around on this. The cruise industry is simply too vital to the southern Florida economy.

Cruise ships ain't going anywhere. They need to sail from ports where the tourists are. This is an empty threat from NCL, and even if they pull out, someone else will fill that valuable dock space.

Yeah you have a valid point there. Let’s see how this all plays out.

There are ports in Mobile, AL, New Orleans, Galveston, South Carolina, NYC, Baltimore, Boston, and California. Just off the top of my head. Itineraries are easier out of Florida but they can absolutely move to those other ports and fill ships.

Volusia County alone had more than 7 million visitors last year. During a pandemic! Now add in all the visitors to Orlando and Brevard and surrounding counties.... no way they're going to give that up.

Maybe “cruise lines” ought to become “citizens of the United States” as opposed to being registered in foreign countries. I understand their plight...but the cruise lines have chosen to forfeit “standing” for profits. Can’t have it both ways.

F@%k these tax dodgers!!!

Huh? People don’t come to Florida for vacation, then decide to hop on a cruise to Cozumel. If your planned vacation is a cruise, you find the one you want & then build your travel plan around when and from where it embarks.

Dude. All sorts of people combine a cruise with the theme parks and our beaches when they come to Florida.

Disney has their own cruise line which specializes in shuttling them back and forth from the parks to the ports.

And all sorts of people don’t. Outside of one Disney cruise that they combined with a park visit I have never had anyone stay in Florida any longer than a day ahead because they didn’t want to fly in the morning of. I have people who go to Florida for the beaches or for the theme parks, and it’s not unusual for them to combine the 2. It’s extremely unusual for them to combine them with a cruise.

I know you're in the travel industry but don't argue with Trad on this. After all, he's a mid level HR manager who often travels for work and is obviously way more qualified to comment on this topic than you.

I took a Disney Cruise a few years ago....and most of the people we talked to had done it like us....3 days at the park and 4 days on the cruise.

I think most people who do that are going to go straight through Disney and not a travel agent, because Disney makes it all sooooooo easy to just book it all at one time and handles all the travel, transfers, etc for you.

Sure but as an overall portion of the cruise market it’s not huge.

I believe he is a platinum level member of the Hilton Honors program, too.

All of this cruise talk has made me want to go on one again. I need to look at which ones don't sail out of Florida. We flew into Puerto Rico for our last one, and that was a fantastic cruise. We ported at St. Lucia, Grenada, Bonaire, and Aruba.

Honestly, I'd like to do the Mississippi riverboat cruise thing. Do they have a port call in Iowa?

I'm sure the staff treat you like a king when you check in and point out your status to them.

Sadly, no. Customer service has gone completely to hell in this country, but you get a 100 percent points bonus on every stay, so there's that.
