Are you sure that is a bold prediction?

Haha, maybe not anymore!

I posted that when Nebraska hired Hoiberg that I thought ISU fans (if they're being honest) would dump Prohm and take Fred back in a heartbeat. Almost every single one of them told me I was wrong. I'd like to try that topic again, but I'm certainly not going to start another ISU / Nebraska thread here.

That's why you, sir, are a saint.

I've watched Xavier's videos and he fits right in with the team I saw on the floor last night. No inside game, lack of hustle and poor defense.

I personally welcome players like Garza who leave it on the floor every night. Tooth knocked loose - don't care, put me back in coach!

You can't teach 7 foot but you also can't measure heart.

I'll make a bold prediction - ISU fans are going to be calling for Prohm's head soon (if not already) because that's just not a very good team he put together. If I'm Foster, that's the only thing that might give me pause.
When Haliburton leaves it's going to get ugly in Ames (even uglier).
Now that Fred will be after the same thugs and transfers with a better arena as ISU goes after Prohm is in trouble.

Hard to replace Shayok, Babb, Wiggington and Tucker from last year. All these guys were great individual talents--maybe not great team guys, but all capable of getting their own shots outside of the offense. They do not have those guys this year and it showed last night. Iowa controlled tempo which was huge. Had that game turned into an open court up and down game, I don't think Iowa wins as Haliburton and others excel in that type of game.

I think ISU fans recognize this and realize that it's hard to replace guys like that whether it be via transfer or traditional recruiting. They will fare better in the Big 12's low / no D and open court play. Suspect Haliburton leaves after this year given all the hype he is getting, so they will have a big hole to fill next year.

With so many teams competing for these Transfers I wonder if Fred Hoiberg is going to have to reinvent himself at Nebraska and actually recruit high school kids.

I don't think he has the patience for that. Going after transfers ( I suspect) is much easier as long as you have the Vacancy sign out front and can get guys in. I suspect the B1G has a few more criteria that have to be met than the Big 12 but not sure based on quality student-athletes on the NE football team.

Like Iowa, very limited supply of in state talent and not a lot to pull from regionally beyond KC. Somehow he got something like 9 (?) new players in this year on a short runway after being hired. Think it will be a lot of turnover as he will definitely encourage guys to seek other opportunities if he can upgrade. Hard to build much chemistry in that model until you stabilize with a few core guys who will stay for a couple years. Miles had a solid team with the two transfers and Watson, but they couldn't quite turn the corner. I think one of those guys transferred and is playing at Marquette maybe?

In all seriousness, I continually hear what a great recruiter Prohm is. I follow Iowa recruiting kind of close, but don’t follow ISU at all. I have heard from tons of Iowa and ISU fans every year how great Prohm’s recruits are. Honest question, which of their guys were the great recruits?

Who are the players from ISU that were listed as leaving ISU (just before Foster committed)?

Well he did get a 5 star in Wiggington. Lewis, THT, and Zion Griffin were all 4 stars. And obviously XF next year. Those types of recruits probably should have led to more recent success. Combined with the Niang-Morris-Long-Thomas crew having Final 4 level talent, I think the better argument is that he hasn’t really achieved much with what he’s had. He’s underachieved with both inherited players and his own recruits.

Fran has his faults for sure and one big one is recruiting. But he does tend to get a lot out of the talent he does bring in and overachieve to an extent.

And let's make sure we point out the remarkable job Fran's done this year. Let me also give credit to TopHawkeye who posted this in the lounge which needs to be pointed out....

"And when you think we lost our starting PF to the "draft", our starting SG to Kansas, our second string PF to injury, our third-string PF to illness, and our starting PG had hip surgery, hasn't practiced all season, and is probably shutting it down for the rest of the year, it's kind of incredible. Fran and the staff have done a great job getting this team ready. "

This team is really good and how Fran and his staff are getting it done, is really remarkable. And the future with Joe T, PMac, Ulis, Perkins, Josh O, and the Marble twins is very exciting.

The Marble twins, didn't even know that was a possibility. Did they take the Murray's scholarships? ;)

And Prohm getting fired would be the one thing that would get him out of his LOI.

Otherwise, he can pause all he wants, he signed on the dotted line. Maybe he'll do a Haluska. Maybe he'll enjoy his years of mediocrity in LAmes as the springboard to his G-League career.

Who knows.

Yes he's brought in some very good players. Wiggington was outsanding, THT a very good player too. He'll have to improve the current team a lot for them to do anything. The ISU team last night looked disinterested on their own home floor and just not all that talented (small and frail). One game is only one game, as after the DePaul game most folks (me included) thought Iowa would be lucky to win 10 games. I will shed no tears for Iowa State not being good.

I honestly don't see how they are going to be any better next year. They will likely lose by far their best player in Haliburton and though they aren't great players will be losing starters in Jacobsen and Nixon. Who are they going to rely on next year? From most accounts, Foster is highly rated based on potential and isn't likely to contribute a lot next year. It seems very likely that next year will be another step backward.

Not to go sour grapes, as I think Foster has great potential, but give me big men like Garza and Woodbury any day of the week over Foster. I’ve seen Foster play many times. May end up being a star in college, but right now I question his intensity, hustle and toughness ... things Garza and Woodbury bring/brought every night, even in high school.

I guess I see things differently from some, but I would welcome Foster to the team if he decided to transfer. I think he is a skilled, naturally gifted interior player and Iowa qill be needing them. I do like the kis coming in (Ogundele) but I would have really liked to have Foster beside him.

Exactly. The situation at Iowa next year would actually be ideal for him, he would have Garza as the focus and he could be playing Kriener's minutes next year once Kriener is gone. But he made the choice he thought was best for him. For all the nit-picking here about his game, if he just plays hard in college he will be a factor playing defense and getting rebounds. I've seen him enough that he has a nice touch and strong upside. Whether Prohm is the guy to get that out of him is open for debate.

I agree. You meant the Murray twins.

I don't watch a ton of Clone basketball, and certainly don't label myself as a gifted talent evaluator, but it appears to me that Prohm is playing the wrong players.

So is Foster stuck with that poor example of a basketball team we seen last night?

God forbid.......
