I trust Frans offensive acumen but not his defensive strategies.
we have poor defensive fundamentals. Terrible man and zone.
Can’t stay in front a guy. Give up baseline (this may be Frans strategy but no good defensive team does this) poor rotations, ball screens have always been an issue, and the backside block is open an embarrassing amount of time for a d1 squad these things are all really bad.
I have no idea why you wouldn’t look for someone to help change your strategies.

I know this may be a surprise for you but let me blow your mind. If Iowa Football had a different philosophy the D wouldn’t put up insane numbers. Gonzaga shot the 3 ball at a great clip and Iowa didn’t. That’s it.

Frans been at Iowa for what, over 10 years? If he hasn't brought in a defensive coach by now he either doesn't care or he's not paying attention to Iowa's short comings.
Either way, no defense is going to guard anyone that shoots from 25 to 30 feet away. Suggs is crafty and has a quick release and no defense is going to stop that. Tip your hat to them and move on....

Agree. But part of acumen for a BB coach is an understanding of the importance of defense and rebounding and I've never trusted Fran in those areas.

This game was a perfect illustration of the fact that a good team can not be consistently competitive with other top teams without a strong emphasis on defense and rebounding. Offense just can not be depended on game after game. Part of our shooting today was shots slightly rushed because of their defense.

The only way I see for this not to end up being a disappointing season compared to expectations would be to bring in a consultant for a couple of months ( maybe Beilein) who is a defensive and rebounding guru.

That has nothing to to with strategy and fundamentals. Iowa is awful. There whole approach to defense is pac 10 or big 12 to use your football analogy.
most good defenses keep the man in front of you, force people to the middle, rotate, and drop on the backside to rebound. We don’t do any of those well and some not at all.
