Fran not leaving

And we all know how well Barta understands how the legal system works and how to document these things.

Well if Fran did have contact with Arkansas and Barta could show that as the reason for dismissing with cause it would be interesting to see where the case would go. I would guess it would settle for substantially less than the $7.6M buyout that exists today.

Perryhawk, I respect you but Fran is a lost cause. His calling the referees cheats ended his tenure here as referees will have long memories and willmake Iowa pay as long as Fran is here, much like Tom Davis could not see any Chicago inner city kids after the Jim Collins/ Bruce Pearl Deon Thomas Chevy Blazer incident.

Tyler is not coming back and this program's athletic talent is fairly weak. PMac is not going to make the difference like Weiskamp did this season. Iowa needs to land several top 100 kids in the next class at PG, PF and C. Joe and CJ Fredrick can man the 2 position well enough for Iowa's future. Nunge and Garza has at least two years left in the program but Iowa needs new depth. Pemsl without a 20' jump shot is not a starter. Iowa needs at least one 6'+ PG who can actually dribble drive and shoot.

Iowa needs to land Xavier Foster and a PG like Tyler Beard or Caleb Love (or both or one and Nijel Pack) and a big man like Dain Dainja.

So, going in reverse order on the points in your post (and I think this is good discussion-no disrespect either way-just a difference of opinion).

I would love to have everyone of the recruits you mentioned in your last sentence...The video I've watched on the Beard kid really impresses me....athletic, smart, and he likes to play defense. He would be a great recruit. I think we're hosed on Dainja based on what I've read, but I really don't have an inside info on these recruits.

You stated that Pmac is not going to make the difference that Joe W did this season...I agree 100%, but probably for different reasons. First and foremost Joe W is outstanding...and he started and played a vital role in the turnaround from last season. Patrick won't be needed at that level and probably isn't physically ready to do that yet...I am guessing he does play a back up role off of the bench and that he is a pretty good player...a very good player long term.

Again, I am all about the recruiting...2020 class is of vital importance. I am really discouraged by the information provided by HR on recruiting....I am a paid member and bball recruiting information has dropped considerable in the time I have been a member.

Last but not least, where we have the biggest difference of opinion, is about Fran and him being done here. I don't believe that is the case.....I have been pretty critical of officiating, but I don't believe that "officials" as a group are going to be out to get Fran and inflict constant punishment on Iowa due to his actions. I DON'T approve of Frans actions...to me that was the biggest mistake and misjudgement on his part of this entire last season.

All that said, he has proven to be a pretty good coach, we bring back a pretty good team, and the athleticism is adequate....not great, but like Wisconsn teams of the past we are good enough to win at a high level. Hopefully the recruiting for 2020 upgrades the level of athleticism.

Good discussion....and we will see how our thoughts/beliefs play out over the next year.

I read this article and can't help but think it's just another way for Barta to look stupid. He comes out and makes these definitive statements and then it blows up in his face. Happens to him all the time so maybe I'm just conditioned to the fact he will end up screwing up every PR situation possible.

Maybe Barta's being honest, but it is just so weird that a private plane flew from Fayetteville to Iowa City, Minneapolis, and Reno on Tuesday. 3 people rumored for the job live in those 3 places. That ain't no coincidence.
Link to a source on that? There have been no filed flight plans between any of those cities all week. That private jet rumor has been a thing for decades now, but there are plenty of resources out there that are public that can very easily disprove it.

This staff HAS to land a good strong recruiting class for 2020...has to. I want Xavier Foster as a part of that in a big way, but we could still have a good recruiting class without him....but it has to be good if we are going to trend upward.

Bummer? Why would it be a bummer? Looking at the thought process many around here have about Barta, if he were to hire a replacement for Fran it seems there would be a low chance he finds a better coach, a moderate chance he finds a similar coach and a high probability he finds a worse coach.

I don't think that, but there are a lot that recently have said they don't want Barta making any more hiring decisions, which would include a Fran replacement.
You may not think that, but be honest. What potentially available coach out there would come in and have Iowa competing at the same level or higher next year and within the first 3 years, if Fran left?

Ohhh, saucy!! I like it. Like a veiled threat. Fran tells Barta he isn't meeting w them, Barta suspects that he's lying, so he indirectly lets him know that this will get very ugly if he's not careful.

GB growing a pair!

"Lying, cheating,... ."

This. With the addition that I think Fran is doing a good job. Some fans here could stand in a field of green grass, with a field of dirt on the other side, and see the field of dirt as greener. It's weird.

I read all of the posts in this thread, then I went back and read the linked article. It is hilarious the misinterpretations/false conclusions of so many people! The truth vs what we want the truth to be, are starkly evident in this thread, IMHO.

What are suggesting? My opinion means nothing. But a Modest Observation, Fran and Staff have lots to do. Suggest #1 Off - Sesson ..DEFFENSIVE SPECIALIST. should be considered huh? Go Hawks.. Lisa got 1 vote for COY. More sooner than later.

I hear what you're saying, but Woodbury was also a Top 50 recruit. Stud?
The argument being made was that he couldn't land them. Woodbury would be another example of him landing one. How YOU determine his career doesn't really matter. Woody was a hell of a passer and defender for Iowa's program, and was a leader in 3 straight tourney appearances.

I’m sure Fran calls the shots to Barta.....not the other way around.

Still....I never for a minute thought Fran had any interest in leaving. Why should he? He has it made right where he is.
Hell yeah he has it made here ... if I had a boss who gave me more money for being average at best in 9 years on the job ... I'd never leave.

I don't get why people think Fran is happy just being average. He gets worked up. I think he wants to win a national championship. Every good coach does.

This is crap. Wieskamp and Patrick were both rated higher then Cook (and you can save the both were coming anyway response). The point is you say the rest don’t qualify as stud recruits. That’s wrong.

You mad bro?

Weiskamp was a top 50 kids, and Patrick is a top 75 player. Just because you have an opinion, doesn't mean you are correct.

And yet other teams have the studs that blow right by our studs on the court. We all have opinions.

You and the oter guy might want to get your blood pressure checked.

Those hoping for Fran's exit are so short sided.

1) We actually have momentum going into next year
2) There has never been a time more dangerous for coaching search with the pending FBI investigation, could easily snag up a coach entangled in that mess unknowingly

We have a good class coming in, we have a great returning core, we made some improvements on defense. Hopefully with 2 defensive minded teams reaching the championship the need for defense gets cemented in both the coach and players minds.

No ma'am, I am just fine - you? My blood pressure is great! You are just wrong and people are pointing it out. It's a good thing no one ever blew by our one Stud Recruit - Cook. He definitely has been a dynamic defensive force.

Great that your health is fine. I was worried by your over-the-top response.

So a plane that traveled to (Nevada) Eric Musselman and California (Alford) also traveled to Iowa City for no reason. Just a coincidence.

Got it.
Word yesterday is they came here to interview Steve Forbes, who is from here, who was in the area for a funeral

Yup everyone jumped to conclusions and got all worked up. In the end there was no contact with UI at all. They were here for Forbes who was in Lone Tree for his dad's funeral.

Yes we know. The plane thing was sorted on Twitter around April 7th. So this thread is officially aged out. We will miss this thread. Cya. Bye now.
