Frank Garza on KXNO Morning Rush

If both Garza and Jbo come back a national title is not ridiculous. That’s the best big man in the country + one of the most clutch and consistent shooters Iowa’s ever had... that alone is enough to carry any team + we have Joe, CJF, Weezy, Pemsl, and incoming class.. yeah, that’s a final 4 team.

Maybe not ridiculous but not really seeing it, or even a better than 50% chance that we make the Sweet 16. There was some study of the Final 4 teams from the past 10 years or so that showed basically impossible to make the Final 4 if your offense and defense aren't in the Top 25 of both offensive and defensive efficiency. Too many opportunities to lose games against really good teams when you don't guard at a really good level.

There is more to story than we know, I feel like. Iowa has 2 more commitments than scholarships available for next year. Yes, we are all hoping it just means Fran’s kids give up their scholarships (myself included). I feel like this won’t be the case. Someone always leaves. This happens everywhere not just at Iowa. We all thought this year was going to be the year then Moss transferred, Cook went pro, Daley transferred and it’s a completely different team. Let’s just enjoy the ride this team has taken fans on.

Doesnt seem like Frank is struggling with money. Which IMO makes it more likely he comes back

we have had a ton of players with dads with bad pasts who never redeemed themselves. If we didn’t bring them up I’m not sure why we would want to discuss frank, who has apparently made things right.

He didn't really make things right with all the people he defrauded.

“Yep. Weiskamp has a better chance of sticking around than Garza, but I think both will at least have a cup of coffee in the association.“

Neither are on any mock draft boards for 20 or 21.

There are only so many earning years for an athlete. I could see Garza leaving regardless of where he is told to be drafted. Sometimes, the player has done all they can do and it is time to move on. And, they may want professional coaching instead of college coaching to improve.

Now, Luka may think there is more to do in college (team success or more personal fulfillment). And that may inform his decision as well. Selfishly, I hope he comes back. :)

Till's scholarship is probably for this year only, which means the Hawks are oversigned only by one. Because Connor started as a walk-on, he could go back to that status. (Patrick's situation is different because he started on scholly.) It's also possible that Fran has an arrangement with the Murrays that one of them will start as a walk-on if everyone with eligibility stays.

Pemsl is part of the reason Iowa will be a Final 4 team?

Whatever you're on, I'll take half.

Fran should consider a grad transfer big man with good defensive and rebounding skills whether Luka returns or not. Ideally if he does return then a nice Kriener replacement like that could be very helpful.
How? If Luka returns we have 15 guys on scholly right now. Please explain how he's going to add another big when he has to shave two schollys right now off of either Till, Pemsl leaving, or Connor if he can even do that, and thats just to get down to 13???

I think there are enough unknown variables that things could work themselves out pretty easily. Luka returning would greatly reduce the need for the additional big body and Nunge is a big factor as well obviously. Gotta think Fran likes the big kid out of England/Massachusetts to come in and help out right away as well but that’s for class of 2021.

National Championship talk?

National title teams typically have at least two NBA players on them. Which are ours? Garza and ... Weiskamp?

Again... lots of people setting expectations without having a clue what other teams are bringing back or bringing in. Everyone gets a year older. Everyone has players that improve.

In most years, if you can win the big ten regular season title, you are a legit final four threat. I really don’t know if that is realistic even with everyone back next year. Way too early to say. I do know that a healthy JBo wouldn’t make this year’s team Big Ten Champs.

You know, this was a great post, and I agreed with it all the way up until your last sentence. Seems rather contradictory, don't you think? I would like to know how you know with so much certainty that Iowa would not win the B1G if JBO were healthy. How many times did he carry Iowa and win games for them in his career? You have no clue if Iowa wins the Big ten or not with a healthy JBO.

Then where did the 2.8 mil in restitution go?

I read that he owed people at least $10 million and maybe more. So I am sure some got part of their money back but they weren't made whole. And for some that was retirement money.

Seems like a shady ass guy to me. That takes nothing away from his son though who is a freaking beast of player now.

I am just thrilled this thread turned political. Amazing. Dumbasses.

It would be a team with a possibility. That's all you can ask for.

I love the kid but JBo may be the single most overrated player in Iowa history.

For the last 41 years straight, a betting man would have done well (100% correct well) taking the field against Iowa for the winner of the Big Ten Regular Season Title.

You want to fantasize that JBo would have changed it this year? Might as well. There’s no law against it. Don’t get mad at me for not buying in though.

Your post doesn't answer a thing about how he would bring in yet ANOTHER big. I repeat, HOW? And if Nunge is a factor, which he should be, and Fran like the big freshman then WHY would he blow up his roster to 16 players? Even if you redshirt most of the young pups, your roster is still overloaded which leaves little room for future recruiting possibilities....
