Fred is like chip Kelly. Once everyone caught up to the fast pace hurry up exposed chip as just an avg coach. Same with hoiberg when he was getting all his castoff transfers he got some good talent and was winning with mix of recruits. Now that it has become the norm showing how Fred isn’t that great of a coach. But unless Nebraska wants to pony up some $ they are stuck with him for a few more seasons.

There’s no way you can keep him. He’s honestly been the worst coach the conference has seen in maybe forever, at least record wise. Pretty sure he’s 6-46 or something in his 3 years in the league with 5-6 more losses coming. Miles was fired for coming in 4th place a couple of times. He just doesn’t even seem engaged right now. And honestly his recruiting sucks.

Always seemed like a guy to me who is better suited to a front office job in the NBA.

While we've certainly seen that it's possible to have quick turnarounds in D1 men's b-ball with the portal(which Fred has shown in the past he knows how to work), nebby b-ball looks to be in a deep hole at the moment.

I just realized Hoiberg is in his 3rd year, for some reason it seemed like he just got there. But, WOW, 7 wins in each year is not going to cut it.

I thought it was a HUGE mistake to get rid of Miles but I thought Hoiberg was a solid hire for them. What a HUGE mistake that turned out to be. At least Miles had them competitive in the Big Ten and pulled off a few upsets. Hoiberg has been a complete disaster and I'm loving it!

Even worse for Fred is his one talented player the freshman McGowens is projected to be a one and done and have seen his name in plenty of mock drafts going in the 1st rd.

Just found this article (link below). Hoiberg even got an extension and has a $18.5 million buyout. He is probably going to be there for a while.

Keegan Murray absolutely owned McGowens. McGowens didn't want any part of Keegan's defense. The last three games, Murray has shut down some really good players. He's stepped up his defense in a big way.

Nebraska has a recent history of "grass is always greener" coaching moves,.. In both basketball & football.
That sounds like a number of fans on this board. Now I’m going to most likely hear “You might be okay with mediocrity but I’m not” or something along those lines…..but unless there’s a candidate on board who has a really strong resume…(like Fred) we better be careful.

Hell, Todd L had been National coach of the year!

Old A.D. liked to give out millions of $$ for a few wins a year! Frost and Hoiberg record combined has to be the worst in P-5 football and mens B-ball ever!

He and Kris sneak those long left arms up and really mess with opponents.
Fun to watch.

Didn't he have some heart issues at one point? Agree that he doesn't seem engaged.

No idea if this is true or false but I have heard some cyclone folks gripe that Fred seems to not work very hard. Apparently Fred puts a big importance on his work/life balance, if you receive my meaning…

He really has. Loved his comments after MN game how he took it personal after Battles’s first game at the Barn. Why I think he will be Big 10 all Defensive team and why pro scouts love him even more so. As for McGowens who knows how good he can be lot of guys based off potential for draft but with his frame and style kind of reminded me of Halliburton from ISU.

It's why he had to quit playing...

Yeah, he realizes that its not going to work.

You can't be this bad in year 3 and expect a good year 4.

He probably just wants it over at this point but obviously isn't going to walk away from the money.

Its not just Iowa.

Very few coaches last 12 years anywhere unless they are consistently competing for championships.

It's basically Izzo and Painter in the b10.

Programs like Iowa don't get candidates with really strong resumes in basketball. Its always going to be a calculated risk.

People say Fred hates recruiting, but Hoiberg brought in some good high school recruits while at Iowa State, including NBA players Georges Niang, Naz Mitrou-Long and Monte Morris. I think he had better assistants at ISU who could recruit. Doesn't look like that is happening in Lincoln

Fred will make it happen at Nebraska,.. too good a coach not to.
How long do you think it will take? Final Four next year? You know his players are going to make mass improvements next year seeing as Fred has always been a developmental coach, right?

4-6 years to respectable,.. no final four.

Well, he's way behind schedule to make that happen.

Hes had 3 consecutive seasons that should only be acceptable in a year one total rebuild.

I don't see it happening. You have to start building momentum right away to be on the proper trajectory for a successful year 4 because you only have a short window where recruits are going to buy the new thing you're selling.

Now that they've seen the product no decent players will want to be a part of whats been on display there the last 3 seasons.

Hes dug himself a big hole.

Iowa State 67.3% winning percentage
Chicago Bulls 42.6% winning percentage
Nebraska 25.3% winning percentage

Woof.
You think he gives a crap about those winning percentages, the money he's raked in, taking those gigs. It's like winning the lotto and not having to do anything. It shows too, seeing him on the sidelines.

In all seriousness I believe Freddy will hit the Portal hard and I would not be surprised to see a much better team in Lincoln next year.

He’s done it a lot last 2 years with a lot of turn over. He needs to bring in those guys out of HS and mesh them with transfers like he did at isu. Got Morris, niang or Matt Thomas and mixed them in with very good transfers there for more than a year like Kane or burton etc.

looking at his roster doesn’t have too many underclassman producing much. Ironically the one who is will most likely be gone after this year or next. Obviously you don’t pass on 5* talent but long term kind of odd to say but they’d be better off if had someone else who’d be there for couple years to take his lumps and pay off down the road over McGowen this year knowing they’d be so bad. Or very least should’ve taken another freshman over a transfer.
