Freddy Stroker story

I'm a coach in MO that was born and raised a Hawkeye fan. 6 years ago I took our team to the Missouri team wrestling camp. I had a pretty good team but we were missing a 106 pounder, this would cost us six points each dual. With their being only 10 weight classes per team I knew it would be difficult to be team dual champions.

After arriving and weighing in Coach Brian Smith asked me if I would like a 106 that was attending the camp by himself. Brian went on to say that he was only a 7th or 8th grader and weighed around 85-90 pouinds but was very technical and his dad had brought him to MO camp a number of times. Of course I said that would be great and not knowing what to expect I thought the kid might win a match or two for us.

Little did I know then, but that kid was Freddy Stroker and not only was he an outstanding wrestler, going undefeated for us, but he was the most humble, fun loving kid and my team took him in and they had a blast like only wrestlers can.

I do not know Freddy's dad, but I can tell you for 5 days at MO camp Freddy Stroker made a fan out of me and my 15 HS kids that wrestled with him. Always had a smile, always upbeat and what a talent. It was fun to see his career take off and since then our team has followed him from afar.

By the way he pinned all but 1 kid and we went undefeated as a team and were team dual champions!

Thanks Freddy you made an impact on a few Iowans.

I've never had any problem with him. Good wrestler. Probably time for the board to move on

Was the issue with him or with his dad? Per his dad's twitter, he is a world class dipshit. Freddy may very well be a nice humble kid though.

As I said in the other thread, Fredy is a super kid, and still exactly as the OP described him. Thanks for sharing such a great story!

His dad is a good guy with a new Twitter account and is a little thin-skinned, and defended his son against a couple ridiculous tweets. Nothing to get excited about one way or the other.

I got to see Stroker interact with a few fans/wrestlers at the border brawl event prior to NCAAs this year - seemed like a class act.

Never seen Fredy pull a douche move, throw a fit, etc. While his Dad may not be representing himself well on the Twitter, Fredy is a much better representation of him...so let's give the Col a break.

Lesson to be learned.
If you have a son who is going on to wrestle in any divison in college don't have a twitter account and stay away from message boards unless you have tough skin because there will always be ding bags who will bad mouth your kid first chance they get just saying.................................

Now I'm sure Freddy is a good kid so give the kid a break as for his dad cool it down or just don't twitter.
Wish Freddy the best but will have to root against him when going against a Hawk.

What ever happened to that other Freddy thread? I posted on it in the morning, went to work and around 4 hours later no more?

I think there's not many that would argue Freddy's a great kid on and off the mat! Unfortunately, the kid got injured during the AGON match last Friday. The crowd booed him as he took injury time. This was very surprising and sad as I've not seen this often at any level let alone with a high school kid. The injury was serious as he just had surgery Monday. Then there's the match. I didn't understand or agree with the call at the end of the match were Stroker clearly got the winning takedown and exposure. Dad was probably a little upset, had a few too many rolling rocks and got on twitter and called out a few that were bad mouthing his kid. There's a lot worse parents have done so give the kid and family a break and let's move on. The guy was not bragging about his son or complaining about the match that he should of won nor was he whacking on other kids. He was simply addressing those that attacked his son. I've been to just about every major high school event in the state, some out of state and I've never seen or heard one issue with Mr. Stroker or his son. In fact all the good talk and even better examples of how young Freddy Stroker carries himself despite the fact he's a star athlete tells me one thing - Papa Stroker did a great job raising his son! Time to move on and discuss more relevant event/issues.

His dad has a long history of being a dbag. I think it is pretty sad that he was trying to recruit Flo to do some more Hawkeye bashing.

Please describe long history of dbagism.

Every fanbase has some idiots that say moronic stuff. Stroker called them out. I will put it in a scenerio you can probably relate to. If Jammen(sorry pal) says something stupid, are u gonna sit back and take it or are you gonna call him out? That's essentially what Stroker has done except he isn't afraid to put his name behind his statements.

I do not have facebook, I don't do twitter so cannot say anything about all that. mr stroker is a long time member of our military and he raised a d1 caliber wrestler both things I respect.i hope the hurt feelings go away soon.

Spot on, now maybe we can let this go, and his son can go to Minny and win every match that doesn't hurt the Hawks.

PapaStroker was pretty active on the Predicament site for the last couple of years. I see a lot of similarities between he and Mr. Meeks.

This was my thought, also. RoughRider2?
