Freeman and Harding Alert !

Fran needed a brick wall so Rebraca had something to run into as he ran up down the floor in practice.
Why Fran doesn't give Josh and Riley some floor time in either win or lose blowouts is baffling, A disservice to those 2 knowing the time they put in competing in practice and in getting better. To what end?
I still see potential in Riley. I would think that getting him minutes could only benefit next years team.

I'm afraid most coaches are the same. Look at Kirk. How many games did he sub the backup QB this year?
When most teams are 20 to 30 points ahead they still leave in their starters. It really doesn't make sense...

What have you noticed in watching practices that would either justify Fran's not playing them or what have you seen in those practices that justifies your assertion that they should play more?

In fairness, Fran didn't bother to stick around for the last 7:30 of the game last night to be in a position to get them in the game. ;)

Exactly what I have wondered. I read their lack of playing time as Fran not trusting their ability, unless the situation is desperate. Josh adds to that with his inability to get into good shape and stay there. Mulvey is a definite positive with his enthusiasm on the bench, but we will need a lot more than that next year.

Just think, when Kris and Pilip are gone next year, the only experienced front players Iowa will have next year is Payton and Patrick and those 2 are Iowa's weakest defensive players. Wrap your head around that.

I know I’ll get killed for saying this, and while it hasn’t really amounted to post season success Frans had a pretty darn good run the last 5-6 years. We haven’t really had to go into rebuild mode but next year could be rough. No idea what the future holds for Patrick. Payton has had some highs and some lows. Really needs to make big strides next year. Same with Perkins and Ulis. We need consistency from someone. Our front court looks incredibly thin next year. Fran has his work cut out for him.

Bottom line is that Fran needs to bring in a very solid big man in the transfer portal, or Iowa is likely to have true freshman starting at 4 and 5 (if they are as good as we hope they are). Sometimes big men develop late and suddenly become major contributors, but I haven't seen anything yet from JoshO or Mulvey to give me a lot of hope. I honestly would be happy if one of them could just step up enough to give us 10 min of decent minutes. I will actually be surprised if they are both on the team next year.

I still think Mulvey can develop into a decent BIG. But we really need him to make a leap next year. I'd cut Josh O. He just can't get a handle on his conditioning. Portal Bigs are a must.

I really think one of Mulvey or Jelly makes the jump next year and contributes, but I’d much rather be breaking in freshman big men than guards. Freeman and Dembe certainly look ready to play. If everyone returns we will be a guard dominated team, which usually bodes well. But I also think we pick up an experienced big in the transfer portal.

I think the portal is quite a bit harder to get a key guy in basketball than in football. While there's always a lot of players in the portal, if a guy's 6-8 or so pretty much every power 5 school is looking for a legit guy like that. Then at that point it comes down to money. And then we usually know how that plays out. We know we went hard after some guys last year but couldn't land any, particularly the kid who ended up at Tech and now has been injured the whole season. And if we offer a kid 100K to transfer to Iowa while our other starters returning are getting quite a bit less how does that look? I know it's the lay of the land but it's a balance for sure.

Wait, wait.... Isn't that against the rules? Can't offer NIL BEFORE signing, right? LOL LOL LOL

Moline tonight shook off 8 days of rust and downed a feisty Minooka Indian team by the score of 74-54. Owen Freeman ended up with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks. Brock Harding had 17 points and 6 assists playing the entire game and Moline had 2 other players in double figures. Moline next plays either the home team in Bradley-Bourbonnais (17-12) or Plainfield South (14-17) on Friday.

B-B is Freeman’s previous high school?

I've never really seen him play. Do you guys think Harding will translate into a good Big Ten "true" PG starter?

Braden comes off the bench and his roll is the play defense, rebound, and play the point on Molines 1-3-1 zone defense. The kid is very good and although not riled on to be a primary scorer, he can make 3's and other shots when presented the opportunity. He will be a player to watch in the coming years at Moline.
The other question that was asked will Brock be a good Big Ten "true" PG starter.
The answer is yes. If you haven't seen him play in person, you're missing a tremendous athlete, His court vision and pin point passing is something to behold and his speed and quickness allows him get to the rim and make layups that normal players his size can't make and also allows him to play defense on players much bigger and taller then him. He shoots the 3 at a respectable rate and has an arsenal of shots in and around the basket.
He needs to physically get stronger to withstand the riggers of Big Ten basketball but Brock is a very special player and Iowa is very lucky to get him to comment.
Iowa fans will love the kid and how he plays.

Well said, the ONLY question I might have is how will Brock’s size play on the defensive end. He is super quick and has great instincts, but just question how well he’ll do against a taller guard. Love watching him play though.

The Sun Times pick for 4A champs.

Class 4A State Champ: Moline

Moline has proven it can play and beat just about anyone, dismantling East St. Louis and Rolling Meadows while losing in the final seconds to Simeon –– all in the second half of the season. The Maroons have two key ingredients to lean on in dynamic point guard Brock Harding and a dominating big man in 6-10 Owen Freeman.

Make 3s you say? Go on...

John Stockton like?
It's a little premature for me to say that Brock is "John Stockton like" because there is no YouTube video of Stockton while in high school and it's impossible to predict what Brock will be like 4 years from now, but without any reservations I will say that Brock has all of John Stockton's playing mannerisms from the video's that I have seen of John Stockton, but at a more realistic high school level.
Will he become the second coming of John Stockton, probably not, but it's intriguing to think about it. If only for a second.

As drh1150 said, Moline won their 30th game of the year and a Regional Championship in fine fashion by the score of 71-39 against Bradley-Bourbonnais on their home floor. Brock Harding started the game on fire by knocking down 4 of 4 from 3 and 14 points in the 1st period. Finished with 26 points on 6 of 7 from 3 for the game and added 5 assists. Owen Freeman was held scoreless in the 1st period but finished strong with 15 points on 8 of 11 from the field, 4 blocks, 8 rebounds, and numerous steals for the game.
Moline will host their own Sectional next Tuesday when they face a familiar opponent in Normal Community High School that fell to the Maroons just 2 weeks ago at Moline by the score of 64-39. Game time is 7pm.

Is there somewhere that shows what percentage Brock is shooting from the 3 and FT line this year? I couldn't find anything. Seems like he has been shooting better of late. To me, a player like him, he absolutely has to be able to shoot at least 35% from the 3 in college in order to be effective off the dribble.
