Funniest movie ever made

Since you are obviously a Steve Martin fan, have you seen All of Me? Lily Tomlin takes over half his body and wacky hijinks ensue. Overall, a very solid performance from Martin. Not as over the top as The Man With Two Brains or The Jerk, but very good. A very strong supporting cast covers for Tomlin’s lackluster performance.

I’d say my list looks something like..

Step Brothers
Dumb and Dumber
Blazing Saddles
Groundhog Day
Something with John Candy

Another excellent, funny movie ... the little fireman!

Those three are very high on my overall top 100 list.

And to create a list of 100, I actually went through several hundred if not thousands of names and these were some others in no particular order that I wrote down and very strongly considered but ultimately felt were outside the top 100 “Funniest” movies.

I’ve seen it and it’s ok, just not as funny to me as the honorable mentions or top 100. Keep in mind...there’s a lot of still funny just not amazing films I didn’t list like the Hangover sequels, Deadpool sequel, Ant-Man movies, a lot of Jackie Chan movies, a lot of Rock movies, a lot of Eddie Murphy movies, a lot of Hugh Grant movies, etc....

No Kingpin! Can’t take you seriously!

Kingpin and Strange Brew are funny but it’s never been in my top movies. I’ve seen both exactly twice over the years and it hasn’t grown on me over time like some of them have.

Also just talking Bill Murray movies, there’s a number I find funnier than Kingpin.

Meatballs
Caddyshack
Stripes
Tootsie
Ghostbusters
Little Shop of Horrors
Scrooged (which was one of the last cuts from my Honorable Mentions)
Ghostbusters 2
What About Bob
Groundhog Day
Rushmore
Royal Tenenbaums
Life Aquatic
Grand Budapest Hotel
Zombieland
The Dead Don’t Die

So I’d had Kingpin just the 17th funniest Bill Murray film. It’s still very funny because it’s Bill Murray, but it’s not his best work and nowhere near Peak Bill Murray (Groundhog Day, Ghostbusters, Scrooged).

If the entirety of the movie was just Paul Giamatti ranting about Merlot, I’d still probably have it in the top 25, his performance is just that good. It probably helps that I always do wine tastings when I travel unless there’s no vineyards in the area and I’ve run into real versions of that character many, many times.

Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show and A Mighty Wind are all hilarious!

The Corky St. Clair character evolved from a character Guest did on SNL and an older HBO Special with Billy Crystal called "Don't Get Me Started." The original guy was "Chip Dimentabella", a dancer/choreographer.

I have always been a HUGE fan of Parker Posey, she absolutely crushed it in this movie. The first time I saw her do Teachers Pet in her audition, I about shit. Absolute classic.

That whole audition sequence was awesome! The guy doing the Raging Bull scene! And, "Midnight at the Oasis!"

Guest is a loon! He was part of the original National Lampoon Radio Show, and the Lemmings.

One of the most recent series was "Family Tree" with Chris O'Dowd, and Mascots (Posey was in that one, too). He's just a totally bent dude... thank god!

I just couldn't believe how SPOT ON every one of those characters were. I grew up in a small town of 150 in Iowa, went to high school in a town of 2,500. My ex-wife (no pic) worked for the Mainstreet Program in a small, rural Missouri town about an hour east of KC during the late 90s. I swear there were scenes shot there, it looked so similar. I could picture the people I met in that town in the movie. So well done.

Have you ever seen the deleted scenes on the DVD? Several with Brian Doyle-Murray, and even with the whole cast.

And, yes, he does, somehow, NAIL the themes of the films. He has great company in all of his films. I'm sure they all help to make them so accurate.

I have not seen the deleted scenes, thanks for the heads up! Will definitely have to check that out.
