Garza

MSU is arguably the team that Garza has struggled with most over his career, and TJD of Indiana is a top five player in the conference and extremely difficult matchup as well. Garza will be back in the mid-20’s soon, win NPOY, and the above discussion will be moot

I think Iowa showed their hand today. Garza has seen 2 or 3 men crashing every game when attention comes to him, they played expecting that and blasted MSU worse than anyone else this year. Going into the playoffs if teams respect Iowa from mid and 3 and leave Garza with man coverage we so can run deep. Worst case we find outside shots, best case we get Garza solo inside with a second trying to come in. Should be interesting.

Iowa could also play inside knowing Garza draws more fouls in the tourney. Maybe more passes out of Garza to open the outside game. I still like this teams chances at a sweet 16 or elite 8.

Hopefully we dont pair with Zaga but of we do JT needs to start.
In place of who? Garza? He was the low scorer today?

Ayo with a yuge 13 points against NW tonight. Probably pushes him ahead of Luka for all awards in the mind of jonsey.

Robbie Hummel was falling all over himself about Ayo. And that the team success is important to NPOY. It has and impact, but if you are talking #2 or #4 team in conference, you aren't talking much difference in team success. Illinois squeaking out wins against powerhouses Neb and NW. Looking forward to Illinois' next loss

I will say that Ayo is clutch late in games. 2 big 3s to finish off NW. Impressive
Pretty impressive tonight against one of the worst teams in America. Had two 3 pointers in the last tow min. to get all the way up to 13 points. POY ho ho ho

Being ranked 70 in kenpom now makes a team “one of the worst teams in America?”Fascinating. I learn so much here (Michigan State is 71, btw).

Last time I checked, many here were counting Northwestern as a top 20 win for us. Is this not the case anymore? I can’t keep up. It’s all so complex.

I love this board. lol

Is Garza still the POY favorite? Yes. Of course. Is Ayo Dosunmu making a legitimate case for NPOY? Yes. Of course.

Does Garza have it “wrapped up” in mid-February with 6 regular season games, a conference tourney and an NCAA tourney remaining to play?

lol No way. That’s just stupid.

The final selection is made in April not February. Lots of basketball yet to happen, including by far the most important stretch of the season.

Stop making sense damn it!!! You're going to offend Truth's delicate senses!!!

I caught the last 5 min of that game and most of Ayo’s points were in the closing couple minutes, so of course the announcers were making the case for him challenging Garza. They didn’t go so far as to say he should be POY, but said he’s making his case and making Garza less of a foregone conclusion.

FWIW, the talking heads on the BTN (Hummel, who I generally like and Brust, who I generally don't) were really talking up Ayo last night for catching and passing Luka for B1G POY primarily because he is such a great asset at the end of games and because Illinois has more conference wins than Iowa.

This is a fair take for the Ayo supporters. Garza's inability to play defense isn't taken into account by most, and the stats aren't a glaring separation for Garza.

I’ll offer you 15/1 on the field. That’s how confident I am. So far all I’ve seen is talk from you. Maybe your balls will drop soon? Possibly.

I'll take that bet for $100 at 15/1 that Garza won't win the AP Player of the year award. I hope I lose because I don't need your money and I'm a Hawk fan and I want Luka to break out of his funk and for Iowa to succeed. With that said, if he continues to struggle and the Hawks fall down on the post season I would be more than happy to take the $1,500 bet that you were dumb enough to place with me. Not that I believe there is a snowball's chance in hell that you'd ever pay because you're obviously a child but perhaps you'll stop your infantile taunts and embarrassing yourself? Possibly?

The one thing that Ayo has over Garza that could play into the overall race here is that Ayo can make more opportunities for himself late. He’s going to handle the ball. Garza is dangerous late, but he’s dependent on someone else bringing the ball down the floor and being able to get it to him.

I feel like this “slump” is blown out of proportion... he scored over 20 pts and had 10 rebs just two games ago. Ayo was being praised last night and he scored 13. He is clutch but I think Robbie was off the mark saying Garza is in a slump for 1 game.

Do people ver think that Luka really wants the TEAM to win rather than worry about personal accolades? By getting triple teamed, he allowed our shooters like Weezy, JBO, KM and even CMac to get open shots and free Jack to do his work. . Let the upcoming teams think about that if they plan to triple team him in the upcoming games. Especially if we get CJF back.

I would state that absolutely he wants the team to win over individual accolades. Kid's the ultimate team player in my opinion. Not sure what this has to do with this thread but one thing I'm sure we all agree on is that Luka epitomizes the best of what college basketball is all about. Hardest working guy in the game day in day out.

No arguments here but for now we're all laughing at TheTtuthTheWholeTruth's opinion that a season award is wrapped up by early February.

Luka is still the favorite for sure. However, when you have a favorite that seems so set in stone from the pre-season on, it’s a natural inclination to look around to see “who else” in order to keep things interesting. Sometimes “who else“ has a big run late and gets a lot of attention.

Oh geez. Another keyboard warrior that can't see straight and probably doesn't have $100 to his name. If you think that he can go the next month shooting 40% from the field and averaging 16ppg and win the NPOY, especially if Iowa doesn't have post season success I'll have what you're smokin'.

If Ayo was as good as Garza, wouldnt Ayo be double/triple teamed too? Garza is so good, the other teams think one player cant keep him below 35 points

I saw that last night. He was giddy.

Ayo is one of the best players un the country. It amazes me how many great players are in this conference this year. Williams- Purdue. IU's center. Michigan center. When Harper is just a good player, your conference is loaded

Did you forget to put J. W. in this same thread?

Agree, but you realize it is the difference in the positions each play, right?
