Woodbury excluded, that ship has sailed. Others seem to do it against Iowa with little resistance, Iowa not so much. Thoughts?

I thought the same thing. Our opponents are ripping the rim off the backboard and we're missing powder puff layups. We have no muscle at all.

Wagner does it, and Uhl is decent at it around the rim too. Tyler Cook does it in his highlights. Hopefully we'll get some guys who do and can finish consistently. This is basic stuff that was taught to every kid 25 years ago. Even the guards knew a few post moves and knew how to go up strong for the "power layup." Is it not taught anymore?

Melsahn was pretty good at it too.

It's about the individual players. We have had guys like White, Basabe and Olaseni who dunked at every opportunity. We'll have those players again. Right now we have Wagner, who doesn't have the basketball skill to be in the right place, but certainly has the athleticism, Uhl, who is rarely open beneath the basket, Uthoff, who isn't strong enough to finish in traffic, and Woodbury, who has about the same hops as I do.

We have also given up a lot of dunks lately (less in the last 2 games) because our defensive rotation, especially in the zone, has been totally out of whack.

Dunker's mentality-
I'm 6ft nothing with no vertical, lower that hoop down to 9ft and I'll run you over to slam it home every time.
Why a guy that can easily dunk on 10ft hoop and doesn't do this baffles my mind. Even if you get a charge called on a big dunk, it pumps up the crowd and it says I'm going full throttle every time if you want to get in the way.

The finger roll attempts at the rim are maddening to say the least

I agree and it seems to me that two guys, Jok and Uthoff, with one more dribble could take it in and stuff it. It seems like they are afraid of getting a charge, but for heavens sake take it in aggressive and stuff it. If you get a charge, make the defender pay for it.

I am getting sick of seeing Utoff going to the left and throwing up a wild shot at the backboard. I expect that out of Freshman. A senior should have the smarts to jump stop and pump fake and go up strong. I don't know if he is afraid of contact or what, but that shot has not gone down since early in the Big Ten Season.

JU is such a puss going to the hoop. He would be the ultimate PIG champion where he can just stand there and shoot, unstoppable!

Not sure but during the Indiana game Wagner and Uhl played throw garbage off the board, Utoff went to the other side of the rim(made that shot) throw the ball down hard, draw the foul and feel free to hammer the guy hard who is attempting to windmill dunk on you. He will think twice or hesitate before trying it again. Mentality adjustment needed.

Could not agree more.

I would disagree with the sentiment Uthoff can't finish or dunk in traffic. Earlier in the year, he was throwing it down over would-be defenders from time to time. However, for whatever reason(s), he has seemed soft and tentative the back half of the B1G schedule, so in recent memory, yes, it does seem that way.

Regardless, Uthoff has the ability to be aggressive and dunk over people. I sure hope that light bulb goes on come tournament time.

I grew accustomed to the baseline lob to White for dunk. Also liked seeing Olaseni dunk on guys. I suspect we have to be at the bottom of the conference in dunks per game executed and have to lead the league in getting posterized. Khalil Iverson had a highlight reel performance against us. Have to give the Slam Dunk Award to Gesell for OSU performance.

Don't know what you're talking about with Wagner and Uhl. Sure they've dunked before when they were wide open, but there have been plenty of times where they have been above the rim already and chose to lay it in instead of dunking it. Wagner is especially frustrating with this. He's a freshman though and, unlike Woodbury, has the ability to dunk in traffic. Now he just needs to realize that he can.

Fair enough, I wasn't thinking about dunking, I was more thinking about going up strong in general.

Dunno about JU, but Jok has just recently started even driving to the hoop. I would imagine his high school leg injury lingers at the back of his mind so he's kind of cautious
