Just got quoted to finish the rest of a basement of my new home where the walls and ceiling are done. Electric is done and only thing that needs done is flooring, trim, wet bar, and installing a sink and toilet. Was quoted $40k to get it done then talked them down to $25k without the wet bar lol. Will see what others will quote but Will probably be sub contracting and doing the work myself after that haha

You don't need a GC for project of that size. Have a flooring company take care of that part. You should be able to handle the sink and toilet easy enough. Trim work can be tricky. Go with something simple and you'll be fine.

$40k?! Holy shit. I could get that done by myself in a week, maybe two depending on your flooring choice and how intricate your trim work is. Might be time to un-retire!

Do they have to jackhammer out the concrete floor to install the drain for the toilet and sink? In any case, get several bids. They can vary wildly. Lots of contractors price these things on a whim. Sometimes they add a few thousand if they think you'll be a pain in the ass. Act accordingly.

True...but there was also a scope change associated with the lower price. (No wet bar.) So maybe there was a lot of work connected to that??
None at all. I can get the base cabinets I want and the counter top I want and put it on. Only thing I don’t want to screw with is the sinks and such. I’ll pay someone to do that

Yeah just getting quotes to see if it is in our price range of what we want to spend. I’ll pay to get it done if it’s the right price but it’s looking like I was just high when I was thinking this

The 40k was obviously a "FU, I don't want to deal with a wetbar" quote.

Everyone I know that got a wet bar doesn't even use the thing.

Run some hoses to it, and put a bucket under the sink. Just toss it in the yard when it gets full.

Can use it to water my garden and give the dogs water

Yep. I put putting greens and hot tubs in the same category.

What people see is spending weekend having parties with friends and getting drunk watching games every weekend. What you get are the usual kids’ sports and housework.

I don't think I would go with a bid that can be talked down 37% out of the gate.
A million times this. I got a $40,000 quote to replace 11 windows in my home and it was down to $31,000 before I escorted the salesperson out the door. I won't even consider that company now when I actually do decide to enter into a contract.
