Geniuses, did tOSU overspend on the nil?

LoL. No, if they win a national championship which it appears they will unless they fall apart the last 4:40, up 16.

It's laughably from the board spammer and on the front page.

Oh, Chissy, I see that you have waddled over from the Off Topic board, trying to pick a fight. I am surprised you have time for sports discussions now that Trump is president.

Also, shouldn't you be on BlueSky, telling Republicans and ANYONE who disagrees with your crazy ass politics to delete their accounts, like you do on here?

And finally, do you look in the mirror every morning and tell yourself what you typed below? Serious question, because, as EVERYONE KNOWS, there is a lot wrong with you and you are an idiot.

Nothing is wrong with me. I am not an idiot projection 101 here yet again.

I remember the mensa members with their usual anal ysis just last month.

I guess they just bought a national championship.

Kind of sad and gross.

50 days ago, on December 1, 2024, I started a thread titled "Ohio State blew $20M on a Roster that Finished 4th in the B1G." And that was 100% true; OSU finished 4th in the conference. Perhaps I should have used the word "SPENT" instead of "BLEW."

50 days ago, that $20M Ohio State roster had resulted in:

* a devastating home loss to Michigan

* a 4th place finish in the B1G conference

* no conference championship game appearance

* the #8 seed in the CFP

* Ryan Day on the hot seat

Congrats to Ohio State for circling the wagons & going on a 4 game winning streak and winning the National Championship.

Final B1G Standings:

Penn State8-111-1
Indiana8-111-1

Yeah, I wouldn't blame them for a second if they are thinking that was a $20M well spent right about now.
The spending war has begun. Free agency in college sports has opened the flood gates. Do you think Michigan is going to be out spent by OSU? Alabama by Georgia and so on down the line. Nothing has really changed. The same names will be at the top each season. This years' 20 million will be next years' 30 million and here we go.
Kids will go hungry, homeless will have no homes and college football fans and donors will spend millions on their teams so they can thump their chests and chant "we are #1". Yay team.

Sad, Gross, Whine Whine Whine. People think this was the first championship ever bought? You must also believe in the trickle down theory and worship Freidman. Did you know how to read in 2010? It was open news Cam Newton was bought from Florida. So, do you mean to say - what's been going on for 40 - 50 years under the table but people were either *willfully* blind or monumentally naive to ignore? Now THATS something actually pretty sad. The fact that people don't see how Iowa could easily come out ahead compared to where they were but instead the non-stop whining.

The SEC is trying to change all the rules for fairness now precisely because they know the jig is up. True free market time. Except now instead of just ohio state paying guys with cars and tattoos we get to make sure Eppy Jr. #3 follows his family and gets some hard cash all the while... I don't hear you complaining about that commitment.

Would save a ton of money just going to a trophy store and buying one there. Now the gates are opened wide and my interest has greatly dwindled. It is Pro Football II. Nothing amateur about it. It is what killed the ancient Olympics and is killing the current Olympics too.

Not into a welfare state. Kids don't go hungry. We have SNAP and food pantries. Going a little hungry now and then is a good thing. It caused me to work hard to be successful. I use it for motivation often. People can spend their money anyway they want even if it means throwing it away to buy a championship.

Welcome to "NIL Ball". That is how it will be from here on out, the top spenders will reap the championships.

Do you actually think they just won because NIL just started? Do you think they haven't had the players MOST of the last 20 years regardless? Do you think they spent more the every other team? If not then why did those teams not win? Why did Texas A&M not win it the first year when they spent 30million and had a losing season? Was Howard really the best QB that money could buy? If the money was the reason, then why did OSU lose to Michigan and Oregon? You do realize that until this new 12 team format, neither OSU OR ND would have even sniffed the CFP this year? The $$ has almost nothing to do with OSU winning, they've always had the players. Now the day that Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Kansas, SMU etc... etc... win one will either require a lot of luck, or they WILL have to buy a championship.

Money is definitely a big factor. Oregon, Michigan, Texas, Texas A & M , ND, Tenn, and others spend a boatload of money on players. The big spenders will mostly slug it out amoungst themselves. Iowa will from now on ALWAYS be outside hoping to even see within.

Why it seems like only yesterday ( 2010 ), when Terrelle Pryor and several other players were suspended for 5 games for trading autographs for tattoos.

Tressel never forwarded the e-mails, nor the information contained in them about potential violations, to his school's compliance office or the NCAA. The U.S. Department of Justice notified Ohio State that at least six current players, including Pryor, had traded team memorabilia for tattoos or cash at the parlor. Sports Illustrated revealed that they had found evidence that the cash for memorabilia scandal dated back to Ohio State’s 2002 national championship team, and that as many as 28 players were involved. Sports Illustrated also discovered allegations that Ohio State players had traded memorabilia for marijuana.

The NCAA issued sanctions against Ohio State on July 8, 2011. Ohio State was forced to vacate all wins from the 2010 season (including the 2011 Sugar Bowl win), they were issued a postseason ban for the 2012 season, two years of NCAA probation, a five-year show cause for Jim Tressel, and a reduction of five scholarships over three years.[

Those teams have benefited from an unlevel playing field for many years, now it is just more blatant and profane.

Yup, they certainly did buy a national championship, and it is a sad time in college athletics for sure.
Disagree. OSU pulled in only 6 players through the Transfer Portal and the bulk (90%) of their NC lineup was through their annual top 3 or 4 recruiting classes. They've only had 2 losing seasons since the early 1960s and have competed for B1G - NCs almost every year since then.....even before the NIL and Transfer Portal.

How much did fOSU get playing in the Rose, Cotton, and finally the NC game? There is the answer.

I think I read $16 to 18 million up to playing in the NC game ........not sure if they received any extra for winning it, the big money, though, is the money they're receiving for their merchandise which was already - far and away - the most in the country before the Playoffs. It went up a staggering 550% after the won the NC

Howard was one of them.

Howard was one of them.
Howard, RB Judkins, the center from Alabama, and a big one - Safety Caleb Downs. Another was Julian Sayin - projected to be their 2025 starting QB. There was one more but I can't remember who it was.....a total of 6 transfers

"BLEW"

Currently after the fall sports tally - Iowa athletics sits at 16th out of 18 B1G schools and 77th overall in the Director's cup standings. Clearly this is an under-achievement. I would think this should reflect on the performance of the Athletic Dept. NIL has changed the landscape of College sports and Iowa has fallen behind. A clearer picture will be after winter sports, but it's not like the basketball and volleyball teams are tearing it up right now.
