Geniuses, did tOSU overspend on the nil?

Meh. Ohio State and Notre Dame have been blue bloods since forever. Same goes for Michigan. Can anyone name an extended period of time in the last thirty years that Ohio State hasn't been good to great. Their last three coaches have won a National Title in different ways.

Nebraska has been great under one coach. At some point you have to understand that B1G football has been owned by either Michigan or Ohio State and now that the men of Michigan have their billionaire invested that isn't going to change. There's a tier list that has Oregon, USC, Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State as every year title contenders. You then have the could be with if they use their resources and that list is Michigan State and Washington. Nebraska has the backing and tradition but even with all that it's been a chore to go from top 25 classes to top 10.

Iowa, UCLA, Indiana, Wisconsin, Maryland and Minnesota are mid tier but capable of jumping up and grabbing a playoff bid once in a while. Northwestern, Purdue and Rutgers are at the bottom pretty consistently. Getting back to Iowa, I can see an inspired hire that infuses life back into the program like the 2000's version with NFL candidate Kirk. I can also see a train wreck like what has happened to Nebraska since firing Frank Solich. Does Iowa have a Boone T Pickens that will just donate to elevate the program like what happened at Oklahoma State between 2008-2020?

Money is definitely a big factor. Oregon, Michigan, Texas, Texas A & M , ND, Tenn, and others spend a boatload of money on players. The big spenders will mostly slug it out amoungst themselves. Iowa will from now on ALWAYS be outside hoping to even see within.
Really? You just proved my point emphatically. Quite a few teams have the money to spend and most don't get anywhere near it. What was Michigans record this year? Texas A&M? They spent 30 million a couple of years ago and had a losing season, and most of the $$ players left. OSU's always in the hunt and its not just because of money either. Its because their OSU like most of the blue bloods you named. Texas has ALWAYS had the money, and they wandered in the wilderness for 20 years.

Those teams have benefited from an unlevel playing field for many years, now it is just more blatant and profane.
There is a level playing field. The difference is some schools have more support than others. There is no rule that a billionaire can't turn Iowa into Ohio State.

Ohio is one of the bigger states in the Union and they have 0 in state competition. The only major cfb team to have that. Combine it with a national appeal due to the largest alumni base, you get a monster.

Look at the teams you just typed out. As @kceasthawk said what’s changed? It’s the same teams it’s always been. And we have money. We spent a million bucks on a QB that couldn’t run across campus. Ohio St has had a roster of 5 star players since stats were invented. ND made the final with 1 five star player.

As I referenced in the other thread, OSU did not spend $22m on talent rather it was to keep their players in Columbus. The only person with that exception was Downs. I wish Iowa had that problem.

I’ve bought dozens of Swarm sixers in the last few years. I’m doing my part!

Why it seems like only yesterday ( 2010 ), when Terrelle Pryor and several other players were suspended for 5 games for trading autographs for tattoos.

Tressel never forwarded the e-mails, nor the information contained in them about potential violations, to his school's compliance office or the NCAA. The U.S. Department of Justice notified Ohio State that at least six current players, including Pryor, had traded team memorabilia for tattoos or cash at the parlor. Sports Illustrated revealed that they had found evidence that the cash for memorabilia scandal dated back to Ohio State’s 2002 national championship team, and that as many as 28 players were involved. Sports Illustrated also discovered allegations that Ohio State players had traded memorabilia for marijuana.

The NCAA issued sanctions against Ohio State on July 8, 2011. Ohio State was forced to vacate all wins from the 2010 season (including the 2011 Sugar Bowl win), they were issued a postseason ban for the 2012 season, two years of NCAA probation, a five-year show cause for Jim Tressel, and a reduction of five scholarships over three years.[
They got hammered worse than Ped State with the Sandusky/Paterno rapes.

50 days ago, on December 1, 2024, I started a thread titled "Ohio State blew $20M on a Roster that Finished 4th in the B1G." And that was 100% true; OSU finished 4th in the conference. Perhaps I should have used the word "SPENT" instead of "BLEW."

50 days ago, that $20M Ohio State roster had resulted in:

* a devastating home loss to Michigan

* a 4th place finish in the B1G conference

* no conference championship game appearance

* the #8 seed in the CFP

* Ryan Day on the hot seat

Congrats to Ohio State for circling the wagons & going on a 4 game winning streak and winning the National Championship.

I realize that everyone is slamming OSU right now....Their weakness - a bozo for a HC

Yep, you hit the nail on the head. In fact, their entire OL has been subpar for the last 2 to 3 years and it's cost them bigtime. In the past, OSU has had the depth to fix it........for whatever reason, not the case anymore

Just a reminder for everyone that our resident dumb ass posted both of these gems on December 1st.

As you can see, on December 1st he said that Ohio State's OL was subpar and cost them big time.

The clown also said on Dec 1st, as you can see, that Ryan Day was a bozo of a head coach.

Well, as we all know, the Buckeyes are National Champions and this dumb ass couldn't have been more wrong not just once but TWICE.

Our resident dumb ass really BLEW it with these 2 posts.

He clearly is a total mental case so look for this clown to not understand any of the irony, hypocrisy and his own stupidity where he bumps this thread again.
