I’m not that familiar with this event, that said, is there any danger at all of Gilman not being able to qualify this weight for the US?

Gilman is the man.

Danger? Heck yes.

Gilman shouldn't be rusty. He’s been out east wrestling bear, I hear...:p

I agree Gilman is the man, I just don’t know the level of competition (historically speaking) that he will be facing. Having to finish in the top two doesn’t leave a lot of margin for error. I’ve got confidence in him I just want to know how much I’ll need to worry about this.

Put it this way, only countries that have yet to qualify the weigh for the Olympics can send a competitor.

Lots of confusion on the pan am championships and the pan am Olympic qualifier. The championships are the week before the qualifier. Chief the one you posted are the championships. Gilman, Zain, Taylor, and Gwiz are all going to try and qualify weights the following week. Reineri Andrea Ortega will likely be Gilman's biggest competition. He beat Gilman 7-4 at the 2018 pan am championships. Fix has beaten Ortega and I believe Thomas in current form will take care of business. Needs to place top two to qualify the weight and secure the one seed at the trials.

The United States is sending 14 athletes across all three styles to the Pan-American Olympic Qualifier in Ottawa, Canada, March 13-15. All 14 athletes must finish in the top-two of their respective weight classes in order to qualify the weight for the USA to compete at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in August.

The Pan-American Olympic Qualifier is a separate event from the Pan-American Championships, which are set for March 6-8 in Ottawa. The Championships feature all 30 Worlds weights, while only the 18 Olympic weights will be contested at the Olympic Qualifier.

Pan-Am nations may only enter athletes at weights that they have not yet qualified for the Tokyo Olympics.

Confusing, yep!

USA would be very happy if Gilman and the Cuban are on opposite sides. Gilman has lost to him in the past. The two in the finals automatically qualify the weight.

Takedowns and guts.

Huge match next round in the Quarterfinals vs. Orteg of Cuba.

Must place in the top two to qualify 57kg for Team USA in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
