Glad to beat Pissconsin, BUT

Still giving opponents way too many second chances. I hated seeing Wisky getting like five straight cracks at hitting a 3.

If Wisky could hit the broad side of a barn, it would have been a lot closer, and maybe even an L.
lol . how many games around the country are like that on any given night ? how many more games would we have won if our team shooting % had been 5% more ? it is what it is . great win , hustled our asses off . i thought the defense was fantastic !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In a career in which every bad game has been attributed to a weak player and every good game to just luck Jordan Bo is going to be defined the same way almost every other player is, by his numbers. Jordan has started for four seasons and leaves the campus as the career leader in assists, three pointers, and (I think) free throw percentage.

He's led Iowa to many wins with great plays, usually shots but he did not become the career leader in assists because he lacks floor vision. He doesn't loose his cool or awareness of the game situation. Three of his four starting seasons were really NCAA years, 19 and 21 and in 20 had a tournament been played. Damn near shot us into the Sweet 16 in his last NCAA game.

The boys are playing for the highest stakes Iowa's pursued since 2006, and 1999 before '06. I'm thinking every coach in the country rides the horses that got us where we are today, and Jordan is one of the show ponies.

Plus, we've seen just a few minutes of Ahron U, almost entirely garbage time. No one has any idea of how he'd respond on the road in a razor tight game if he had to play. I can see the argument for more Joe T minutes but right now F McC is playing the guy that will make the fewest mistakes and has the potential to drop 5-10 3s in any game.

Take out the 0-5 on that 1 possession and it’s 13-29. That’s pretty solid. Pretty sure iowa shoots like 39% on the yr? I agree they missed plenty of wide open 3’s but they also made a fair amount with a hand in their face.

It's all good. For the last few minutes I've just been watching Garza highlights from the game. He looks like he did early in the season. Such a beast.

In the last 2 games, Iowa has done a much better job of staying with the 3 point shooters and bothering their shots, resulting in a lower shooting %. We have also kept our opponents under their scoring average. Lots more effort. Good job Hawks!

Skipped what might have bunch of really good posts, but those fans who aren't happy with a 15-point win in Kohl Fieldhouse need realize that no team is perfect , and the Hawks look like a top 10 team to everyone but them. No easy ones ahead on the regular schedule, and there are several damn good teams in the B1G. We need to take care of business against the Nittney Pussies, who are playing pretty well after a lousy start, and go one at a time.

I've been without power for a few days and apologize if it was in a thread I didn't see, but are we still trying to make up the Debbie likes corncobs game? That might be the only really bad team, and I would hate to miss out on that W.

I'm bothered by Fran's lack of timeout usage and I'm even more bothered by not having a real point guard. Iowa is lucky Wisconsin is such a bad offensive team.

Yes, I'm going to enjoy the win, but figured a win is a good time for constructive criticism.

But for real, though, this shit is like if Alford was to play Brody Boyd at point 30 + minutes.
I think you need to apply for a head coaching job at a P5 school, since you seem to always have all the answers, after the games.

You can say that about every team that loses, especially when they only lose by 15 points.. But then we might be undefeated if we made all our free throws, had no turn overs and held the other teams to no rebounds ;)
Just saying....

When you clank shots as badly as Wisky does, there are going to be a lot of long and wild rebounding opportunities,
I agree that doesn’t answer all, but it’s good to see IOWA force a team into poor FG%

There was a point in the first half after Garza had made a couple 3s in a short period of time, if I recall, and Luka and JoeT ran a pick and pop. Both defenders stayed with JoeT, leaving Luka wide open for a 3 and JoeT didn't pass to him, didn't score, didn't do anything productive. My son and I were in disbelief. A true point guard finds the hot hand and passes the ball to him.

Jbo had the same situation and airballed a fading jump shot instead of passing to Luka. JBo has the union card though.

Credit is due for the defense.

Hes played with effort and its noticeable.
Kind of off course here, but you know what else is noticeable? Keegan Murray gets those long legs of his going he seems to get down that court pretty damn fast. I knew he had some smoothness to his stride and what not, but that kid can cover some ground in a hurry.

If JBo can defend like that consistently, I'll feel a little better with him at point. Trice is not an easy cover.

There is merit to the argument of him stretching the floor, I just wish we had a point guard who can break guys down off the dribble without turning it over. Against athletic teams, Iowa's offense can get stagnant with JBo at the point, especially when 3s aren't falling.

To be honest, JBo can really create a legacy now if he focuses solely on being the best defender he can be. The various three shot looks are going to always be there.

The reason I think Fran keeps him in running the point on offense is that his eyes are always up & he's usually got them in a play. Still think he needs an extra 3-4 minutes on the bench, though, if not more.

I thought it was a very solid W. The team played very well.

I saw nothing to pick at, other than the players and coaches are not perfect.

The scary thing is if Iowa had a traditional point guard who could beat guys off the dribble and kick out to open shooters this team could average 100/game. Or, lock it down defensively to force more turnovers.

I feel like we've been having this debate for four years now. No, he's not the "traditional" point guard whose primary responsibility is to set up other players - honestly that's Connor's job on this team. But traditional point guards who aren't threats to score consistently score are rarer than big men like Garza are.

We have the #1 offense in the country and you don't think we have a real point guard. I'm good with that.

OP obviously hasn't watched Iowa basketball under Fran much. We never have a true PG and have zero clue how to use time outs for years. Next he will say he is waiting for our lockdown defense to heat up.

He plays out of control, once he learns to control his pace he will be soooooooo much better.
Right, I don't think he should be starting. However, he does need more minutes than he's getting. On the flip side, JBo should get his props, but he also should be getting spelled by JoeT more than he is.

Lol what? He’s been getting like 5min/gm has 1 to an gets pulled. He’s never in during big moments to have a to. There is absolutely no reason he shouldn’t be playing 10min/gm. Jbo is not good enough to play 35mpg, thats a fact
WE JUST WON BY 15 IN WISCONSIN!

We do have a legit pg, JoeT. He just gets pulled IMMEDIATELY for some reason.

oooo! I know the reason! It was because he passed up the opportunity to get the ball to Garza for a wide open 3 pointer, and decided to dribble the ball out of bounds for a turn over. Kid needs to slow down.

Who isn't a legit PG for Iowa? JoBo? Joe T? Ulis?

Everyone knows my opinion of JBo at point. Doesn't mean I don't think he's a good player.

We'll have to see about Joe T and Ulis. Neither one is getting enough playing time for a fair evaluation.

Peter Jok was one or two made free throws from breaking Steve Alford's BIG record, so I think he is Iowa's all time free throw percentage leader. Too lazy to look it up to be sure.

He held Trice to 3-15. That seems like he did something.

All joking aside, one thing I like is Fran's new commitment to a switching NBA-style defense. It's working and has helped mask Jordan's and Connor's defensive deficiencies. And that is superb.

Thats a fair criticism.

Im so so on Toussaint at best.

I'd be happy if Ulis was getting 15 to 20 a game.

Playing without a real pg on the floor is difficult against good defensive teams.

The Badgers are ranked in the top 10 by Ken Pom for defensive efficiency; probably the best defensive team the Hawks have played this year. Seems like they managed to eke out a win without a real point guard....

I think with JT the goal should be to have 1 big (who can shoot) and 3 other bombers on the court at the same time. He is one of the few that can get to the hoop and when Wisco extended their D last night in the second half it seemed like the perfect time to insert him AND Garza was hitting from distance. Clear out the center, dot the 3 point line with shooters and let him drive when there is less traffic. If he is beating his guy and finishing the D will have to collapse and he can kick it out.

Not Keegans best game as they were inviting him to the cup and cutting him off before he could get there and had a tough time finishing (although he seemed to be cleaning up on the glass). Have to remember that kid is a frosh and he will have games where it looks like he is taking a step back, needs to get that 3 ball going again...high ceiling on that one and will be relied on heavily next season as well JT.

Yeah, and? Not sure i would give jbo a lot of credit for the win. Played 35min didn’t score until there was 2min left, had 5 assist vs i think 3 to’s and a few rb’s...not great production. And everybody talking about joe’s 1 bad decision (which it was, no argument) jbo made the exact same poor decision, except his was a one foot off balance airball.
Look ive said b4 im not calling for jbo to be benched, I just see no reason the min distribution shouldn’t be more like 26-28jbo 12-14 joet. When we play teams with super athletic pg’s we’re going to need more min’s out of joe on the defensive end.
Obviously we all just want the team to be successful...IMO, to have the finish to the season we are all wanting, we’re going to need more min’s from joet.

That point in the 2nd half with garza and weezy on the bench was brutal. Think we were up 15 and that lead quickly evaporated. Like you said they invited keegan to drive and he was really the only off the bounce threat out there. Would have been a great chance to put joe in and move jbo to the 2.
