Was it brandy? Those hosers typically use brandy instead of whiskey in their old fashioneds. And then top it with soda or squirt.

I’ve had it both ways and whiskey is still my preference. I’m not a huge regular grape brandy fan. But I will say that Regarding Cocktails made me a huge fan of Apple Brandies in cocktails. I’ve even sought out some of the best from Normandy that you can’t easily get in America.
