Golf Pet Peeves

I played behind a 6 (yes...6 some) of old f**ks just taking all the time. Course was wide open that morning. They had a 5 hole lead and I caught them on #7. They refused the let me play through. I buzzed past them at the turn and noticed at least a couple of the women give the "well...I never!!!!" look.

So... groups of old people who refuse to let faster groups play through is my answer
I'll amend this to anyone who doesn't let a faster group though (if there's room) because they're "playing at an appropriate pace".

People that don’t fix divots on greens. You hit the green and create a divot, fix it cautiously without killing the grass by lifting up with the tool. Or leaving a crater so it stays a deep divot and kills the grass.

Slow play and people who have temper tantrums. It can be amusing at times but makes it uncomfortable for the most part and can ruin a round.

I’ve witnessed groups of 12 on random Saturday afternoons. Four of us can lap them twice or three times a matter of 18 holes, ridiculous they allow that, unless it’s a private deal where they rent it out or do it during off hours. But Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon are prime time.

Pissed off just taking about it

People who spit sunflower shells on the greens are SOTE.

And slow play.
This!! Nothing pisses me off more than sunflower seeds and heaters on the tee boxes or greens. Also, slow fuks that don't let anyone play through. Or people that show up to the course and see it's busy, so they go jump on a different hole. And any groups that are more than 4 golfers.

Is there anything you swear happens every damn time you golf and just pisses you off?

For me I 2-4 times a round will hit my Par 3 tee shots within 6 feet from the pin yet I still have to chip back on to the green on my 2nd stroke. Also yes I just finished golfing

What bout you guys?
You let people play through and then they screw around and slow play

Mine's a bit different I guess. I hovered between a 5 and 10 handicap up til my early 40s. Had a car wreck and destroyed my left shoulder and had to have a complete replacement (I'm left handed). I went from hitting a smooth 8 iron from 150 to a hard 6 iron. My drives went from a nice draw to a quail high duck hook. I just gave up the game out of frustration.

Slow play can be mildly annoying, but people who think a golf course is the place to bring their portable speaker so they can listen to music while playing should be shot on sight.

I’ll add the lack of more Par 3 courses. My golf game was at its best when I could pop into Jester for 45 minute round.

who decides what a divot is?

Slow play but only if it's caused by incompetence. Just use some common sense on grabbing the clubs you need, parking the cart in an appropriate spot and the time spent looking for a lost ball. It's not rocket surgery.
This exactly. I've been playing golf my whole life and am fairly decent and I don't mind at all playing with hackers as long as they are using common sense to keep up the pace as best they can. It's when they don't do the things you mentioned or my personal biggest pet peeve taking a million practice swings or standing over the ball for more than 15 seconds that I lose my patience. You can shoot 145 but if you use common sense it won't bother me a bit.

Played behind a guy last time who took 7-8 practice swings and then stood over the ball and waggled another 15 seconds. No way he shot under 100 either. Infuriating.

So, you get to just decide that you get a free drop? Do you mark your ball a few inches to the left or right if there is a repaired pitch mark on your intended line?

Personally I would simply bring in people I am playing with in regard to the divot in the fairway issue, If in a tournament and there is any question a rules official can make the call. As far as a repaired pitch mark, If you do not feel it was adequately repaired you are allowed to repair it to your satisfaction, No need to move the ball in any direction.

Played with a co worker 3 or 4 years ago that would take 3 practice swing before every shot. Shot well over 100 for 18 holes and likely swung the club over 300 times. It was the only time I played with that guy. I have no problem at all playing with inexperienced golfers, Playing with someone that is painfully slow is a different ballgame.

Back when I golfed I would always get paired up with strangers that thought they were going to go pro and took shit way too serious. Sometimes an occasional club tossing mad man. One time a guy went off on me because my shadow being in the way.

One of my friends can be a bit of a hothead, He is truly a good guy that just gets pissed at himself from time to time, Anyway he threw his wedge and it got stuck in a tree, He took his other wedge and tried to knock his wedge out of the tree, The 2nd wedge landed poorly and snapped the shaft so he ended up with no wedges, Pretty much cured the club throwing.

1, Slow play, as mentioned before if I'm waiting on every tee box just add 6 strokes to my score now because it's not going to be good.

2. The course is playing slow and the group behind you is riding your ass. If it's my group playing slow and we don't let you through hit chilli peppers up my ass all day long. If I'm waiting on every tee box and can see the course is backed up on every tee box. Chill the F out, it's going to be a 5 hour round, you hitting into us on 18 and getting done in 5 hours vs 5 hours and 5 minutes isn't helping anything.
I'll add to that, 'people bitching about the group in front of you'. I hate that when others in your group are so shortsighted they can't recognize the group in front of you isn't a problem.

Oh yeah I would definitely be struggling to deal with that. Those things don't help your game and the waiting and excessive waggling actively makes things worse for you. Like I said if it takes you awhile because you have to take a lot of shots because you just aren't good I can live with that but if you are doing this crap I'm actively going to hate you

Lota hatred going on for playing golf.
Doesn't seem to be enjoyable.
Maybe take up a different game.
Bowling? And the ball comes back to you. ;>)

A lot of people have no sense of awareness about pace of play. We play ready set golf from tee to green. Once on the green, we play longest putt goes. Have one guy in our group that is slow to grab a club and play his shot but we make up for it with our quick play to the green with the other three. He is just slow over his ball either hitting or putting. It’s like come dude, hurry up. He has no clue he does this and is so slow.

My newest pet peeve - When 2 of our normal foursome can't play, and the 2 of us that do play get paired up with really bad golfers. Not necessarily beginners, but ujst really bad golfers. Yesterday, for example, was 2 guys will the goal of braking 150. Not 100, because that would have been around 9 holes

Take 17 for example. Short part 3, with about 120 from the #2 tee to the pin, and about 100 to carry the water. There's a drop area with about 55 yards to the pin.

One dude hits 5 balls into the water before he gets one dry. I', guessing he averaged 12 strokes on par 4's. Good thing we weren't playing Texas rules because he averaged 3 shots to get past the lady's tees.

That's when you go Rodney Dangerfield on him and yell "While we're young."

I want to add to yours this one thing.......
I do not care if you suck and chip the ball all the way across the other side of the green, are awful with your irons, or a shitty putter........

But for the love of god stop taking 17 practice swings before all this.
2-3 practice swings and hit the damn ball.
I stopped practice swings last year on drives(I limited myself to two) and my drives improved.
