California Gov. Gavin Newsome says a Supreme Court ruling that cities can enforce bans on people sleeping outdoors in West Coast areas will give local officials more freedom to address the crisis.
The Supreme Court didn't rule that homelessness is a crime, they only ruled that allowing cities to remove homeless encampments isn't cruel and unusual.
Seems like state could have acted at anytime, this ruling just gives them the protection they sought to enforce their own laws if they choose to. The Supreme Court didn't rule that sleeping outside is a crime.
